I absolutely love watching your videos because you keep it real. As I am moving there I appreciate you telling the good, bad and ugly. ❤️❤️❤️ Keep it up!
Thank you so much!! Let me know when you make it out here!!
Thank you for the informative video!
Can I just say that I love your honesty? I laughed so hard, on the hospital’s story, because I totally agree with you and I could picture your face when you experienced that hospital. Absurd the smoking in and around hospitals, but it is the reality. I absolutely hate this in Italy, many people smoke and like you, coming from California, where there are strict rules, it is hard to swallow.
Thank you!!! I don’t want to offend anyone here but I do have to be honest and honor my actual experience. It is funny looking back on it and I really hope they have cleaned up that hospital!!! It was a horror show!!
Thanks for this video... I will be retiring in Calabria in a few years and cannot wait! That hospital sounded pretty bad... but all hospitals are not created equal in Italy AND the United States. I remember my sister ended up in the County hospital in LA and she said it was the worst experience of her life...it was very busy not enough beds... not enough nurses and doctors almost bleed to death ...homeless people and the odors were very bad...this was about 6yrs ago...
You're right about Milano, I had to go to the hospital there while on vacation, I was treated so well. It was very 5 star and didn't pay a dime after my treatment.
So glad you were able to have your baby in a nice place with a private room... in the US that will cost you a pretty penny.
Love your channel, very informative and honest.
Wooohoooo another win for Calabria!! So happy you are enjoying my little channel and so happy you will be moving here soon!
@@CalabriaDreaming thank you! My husband and I are visiting Scalea and meeting up with a realtor this coming June... we are so very excited... keep up the good work on your channel! I watch all the time for valuable info.
In Florida I have to wait months to see a specialist. You’re right about medicine. Here it is pushed on people.
same in Italy and you have to travel far often to see a specialist
In 2001 when my grandmother dies we went to visit her in the hospital and I was horrified. My family from there was not. But the first thing that struck me bizarre was when we were sitting outside of a room waiting to get in the doctor approached us with a lit cigarette hanging from his lips. Then we went into a room, it was summer and like 100 degrees in the room no a/c and there were 20 patients in that room and there was a shortage of ventilators. Not to mention the hospital looked like an abandoned mental hospital. It was truly shocking. Ive heard its a bit better now.
Yea that sounds about right. I was so shocked when I saw how unhealthy the doctors were here too like smoking inside of a hospital???? Who does that!? Sorry to hear about your nonna may she Rest In Peace
Yeah but you have to remember that old Calabresi would FREAK OUT if thr air conditioning was on to begin with.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I've heard a few horror stories too. One thing people mention about maybe retiring in Italy ...gli ospedali...gli ospedali..😣
It still is the best place to live your life it’s just yea hospitals don’t look good. But like I said for a small fee go private
Depends where in Italy... Milano, Florence, Bolognia, Genoa, Modena, Turino..... and more... Calabria is the South so less money down there
@@RStellaMeola understood. When I speak to people considering Calabria for retirement it's more affordable for seniors but they like their dr.s and modern hospitals 😊
thankyou for doing this video
Thank you for watching!!
I’m considering Scalea. I’m retired so I’m older than you. Medical care is very important. I’m healthy and in good shape, but things happen…. I’ve seen hospitals in Medellin. They are better than hospitals where I live in Florida ! I’ve been to doctors in Puglia. Excellent. I didn’t check out anything further. In May I’ll be in Calabria and Puglia researching where I will live. I plan on moving to Italy next March. I am a dual citizen. Im looking at areas with 7% flat tax. Thank you for your experience.
RIGHT!! Colombia was such a suprise for me!!! The hospitals there were incredible, and side note, I loved loved loved Medellin... what a great place. But yes, Scalea is a great area, many happy retirees there living a great life, and I know there are great private hospitals up there too.
Hi Carol, looks like we both have the same plan:). Im retiring in two years and thinking Scalea also.. I'm going in June then down to Reggio Calabria to meet up with family. Im currently in Ft. Lauderdale... In August ill be visiting pUGLIA just to check it out
@@tjmograph good for you! I know people in Scalea. They’re happy. I’ll see. I really want Rome. But the tax savings is too good. Are you a dual citizen? Ive been to Puglia. It’s very nice. I was on vacation at the time. Now I’m looking at it with living there in mind. I don’t want to be bored.
@@CalabriaDreaming yes Medellin is beautiful. Great people. I just can’t live that far from a coast.
@@carolc1543 No not Dual C yet all though my Grandparents came from Reggio Calabria. My next few trips are to narrow down my search.. right now I'm trying to loose 10 pounds before so I can eat in Italy guilt free;)
Sounds like the “Sails of Scampia” more than a hospital.
Great info Lilly, i wont be having a baby anytime soon....like EVER...lol
Yes bring a parent is a sacrifice and not for everyone!!
@@CalabriaDreaming my 2 boys are enough
This is because most children were born at home on a kitchen table in the not so distant past so anything is an upgrade.
Very true
I am researching retiring to Calabrian can I get healthcare coverage. Who can help me navigate coverage
Once you are resident it’s universal free healthcare
What if you're a citizen living in Calabria part time? Can you buy the private?
Yes! Absolutely
was the hospital clean?
Dental is free? Blood tests are free? Don't we have to co pay the ticket? Or am I missing something? Never heard of a free dentist, can you tell me where yours is? I am in Reggio Calabria and would love to know how and where to access these services. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Absolutely. Get your health card choose a doctor and yes all those things are free.
Also naples has better hospitals to
I think anywhere has better hospitals
It is a male driven society, so, they won’t be told not to smoke. Ugh.
Yes it’s just the way it is here but it would be great if they didn’t smoke in the actual hospital
