- I found an AWESOME Art Hack with Gold Leaf that will save you so much time and money!
Alright so what even is gold leaf. Gold leaf is just decorative and adds a little shimmer and glimmer to your painting or project. Its way prettier than the glitter paint because I still can’t make that stuff work.
Most of it is not actual gold, and what I have is definitely not gold because I got that stuff for 2.74 at Hobby Lobby when it was regular 10.99.
Its a very thin sheet and literally the wind will break it when you are transferring it from room to room. It comes in pages so you’ll get like 25 pages, I think on amazon you can get 100 sheets for 8.99, but I didn’t want to pay for shipping.
Before you use it, I would recommend covering your table because this stuff sticks to everything like I gold leafed the table accidentally, my phone, my husband; it was everywhere.
Here’s the thing, you are supposed to use a specific adhesive with this. Its called Adhesive Size or Gold Size. You can get it at hobby lobby or amazon. But here’s the deal, ya’ll know I roll cheap. So Hobby Lobby was out of their adhesive, so the lady told me to come back tomorrow night. Well there was a tornado afoot, so I was like well I wonder if I have anything around the house with which to adhere my gold leaf to the wood coaster.
I thought WAIT MOD PODGE. Surely that wouldn’t work right? WRONG worked like a charm. So if you have any mod lodge hanging around, try that and see what happens. And you can also seal with it.
So what I did was carefully take it out of its book and lay it on my coaster. Then I pressed it down with my fingers gently and waited for about thirty minutes. Then after that I took a brush and wiped away anything that wasn’t stuck and viola! Then I sealed it. I even did it on a clay pot and BAM worked perfectly.

I tested some gold leaf on a plastic phone charger 😅 I used basic pva glue, waited about a minute and stuck the sheet on. It was a mess. The foil got all clumped up and broke and wouldn't stick back on to any other glued parts. It got very scrunchy and clumpy and textured from trying to flatten the foil out and every time I tried to get it to flatten out or if I added more pieces it just became more clumpy with the gold forming grainy bits. Might dilute the pva next time and try again. The gold size they sell in store is not worth the expense especially as I'm not sure how often I want to work with gold foil because it's so fussy and messy. Thanks for this video🌼

Exactly the info i was looking for…my “gold” leaf came from Temu lol. Im not about to spend money on a special glue when ive never done this before. More importantly though….i didn’t want to leave the house. Thanks!

Did you put varnish after finishing the whole piece ?! And how? Sho I add water to the varnish ? Or use it directly from the bottle ?!
@@tanianaboulsi7522 i cannot for the life of me remember what I used to seal it! It might have still been mod podge! I know I tried pouring whatever it was over it but that made it alittle too thick on the top, but then I didn’t want brush strokes either so I wasn’t happy with either method 😭😭😭

I’m preparing myself to start my own business, painting on woods, on canvas , on suitcases…. Different things. But the sealing is what I can’t seem to know how to do it. I’m scared of ruining my work. You know !
@@tanianaboulsi7522 I know the feeling for sure! And I want to let you know that I bought some gloss varnish to seal my painting on acrylic paper and it made the colors POP! So I would totally recommend that! But I’m not sure about the wood!

I mean the bottle is not that big and if I want to use it with every canvas or anything else it would finish sooner than I would like. Sadly it’s expensive 😅
