I remember back in 2016 during the copyright drama me and some old friends while in film class would watch a live stream of the Fine Bro's subscribers go down, we'd watch the stream while editing together our videos. It was insane, funny, and sad seeing them go from some 20M subscribers to like 10M in the course of a few weeks.
my problem with the entire thing for me was how high and mighty they usually felt to me even tho all they did was make other people react to stuff not even themselves which just rubbed me the wrong way.
I actually stopped watching the channel way back when they started doing the cring-inducing tactic of making reaction thumbnails when the faces are heavily distorted to “emphasize” the reaction. It was dumb, it looked dumb, and it just shows how much effort was put into the thumbnails. Seriously, all you have to do is go into photoshop, take a screenshot of someone’s reaction and use the bulge tool to grow the person’s eyes and mouth to uncanny proportions. It’s such a lazy tactic.
I wouldn't call it lazy, dumb, or cringe considering a majority of all successful channels do it and don't hide it. Even if you don't think someone did it, enlarge the photo and it's obvious. There's a reason ppl do it and it works. Ppl in YT and YTers have said their research shows not doing it decreases views. Do some enlarge it too much sometimes? Sure. But it's not dumb.
I just want to give props to the people who took over the channel and turned it into People Vs. Food. They did an excellent job of rebranding, many of the reactors have now returned since there's new management, and their numbers are steadily increasing again. I'm happy for the good people that were able to keep it going without the trash at the top.
I used to watch them a lot, especially when they added the community team with Tom, Tori, Eric, etc doing lives. But after a while it got so confusing as well because they kept rebranding and making a million side channels and then rebranding those. And then when covid hit and they stopped doing the lives I just left off and started getting into streaming lol. I always got super weird vibes from the fine bros but I liked a lot of the other people working on the staff and stuff so I think that’s why I kept watching for so long
Kinda wish you also mentioned their horrible movie they made about high school, even they themselves were homeschooled lol. You should watch it on your second channel or something and post the highlights of your watching of it.
@@BillsYT It's mega cringe lol. Also look at the bros talking about the movie before it released and stuff, some unintentionally funny stuff in those too, like how they said that every single person watching it will have at least one character to relate to. It’s more than just cringe tbh. The statutory r*pe/pedophilia jokes were creepy and disgusting, and That whole speech the guy gives while mentioning school shooting felt so deluded and ignorant. Much like the whole film.

i used to watch millie when i was like 10 and now that i look back it im truly disgusted they thought it was okay for kids my age or even younger to watch
@@BillsYT I would argue it still was aimed at adults or edgy teens as a parody, but in no way did they implement appropriate safeguards or warnings for the production. In a sense, that's even worse.
@@BillsYT i mean you could say that about a lot of adult cartoons and tv shows tho. Not all of them are dark and depressing but as someone else pointed out they just didn’t have the safeguards in place to keep a young impressionable audience from watching. Bojack Horseman, most adult swim shows, the midnight gospel, etc are all shows that are brightly colored or animal themed and look like they could be for kinds until you actually watch them. My name is Millie just spelled Mili and watching that as a kid put me in a weird place if that makes sense lol.
@@BillsYT Idk seems like you either genuinely don’t understand the humor and targeting or you just want to double down and use the show to reinforce your perspective that they were “not the people viewers thought” for doing it. Back then there were no safeguards for kids and content creators were practically kids themselves who made videos they thought were funny Someone like Shane Dawson especially didn’t think too hard about who’d be watching his content either. Who and how his content might offend someone just wasn’t considered since the reach of youtube wasn’t nearly as big as it is today and I’m sure he thought as long as there’s no will to offend, there would be no harm done Now that he’s older and knows his past videos had an impact on a bigger audience of people he now condemns a lot of what he’s done and see’s how his content may have been offensive to some and how today he might have the mind to never have made certain videos
I used to be one of their paid subscribers. It was one of my first online communities. Was such a hard fall. Might want to mention their non-reaction to one of the Reactors requesting assistance with death threats and a stalker finding that Reactor's home address. The black Reactors that participated along with Kennedy in that video were only given 2 or 3 days to get their videos in, and were only offered compensation for their stories after Kennedy outed everything. It was weird to see their blanket apologize over a text post on Twitter, their smallest platform. And when they hired consultants to help them address the work place issues they hired the company, one of the VPs was hired from.
I had honestly forgotten about React until I came across the tiktok of the boys. Can't say I'm surprised but I'm saddened for the kids/talent involved. I can only imagine the dark stories that some of them have to tell. Wherever there are kids, there'll always be some kind of exploitation.
Yeah I immediately unsubscribed after the trademark/copyright scandal. To think they tried to copyright an entire format done by thousands of people. That would be like copyrighting Minecraft let’s plays or the entire genre of Action movies. And what’s worse is, they started copyright striking other channels before they even got the trademark! Then I saw their “apology” video which is just them yelling at their viewers, and I never watched another reaction video again. I was just completely done with them

This is all new to me. I unsubbed from Fine Bros after the whole ordeal of them trying to trademark "React," and never looked back afterwards. The fact that these reactors, well, reactions weren't genuine and all scripted in the Fine Bros favor just really dampers the whole idea of their series. And the blackface thing is news to me to. They really fell off hard to the point of no return
I loved the react videos. I loved the elders, the kids, the teens! It breaks my heart knowing they went through such bullshit. :( I hope every last one of them is doing well and find success in their own ways. Fuck the Fine Bros for turning a good thing bad.
Could’ve used this video a couple of weeks back when I first tried to understand what the hell happened with these guys. When stumbling upon that video in the beginning.
I used to binge watch them every day and every night as a teen and remembering how amazing it was to actually watch the reactors grow up with me. Now, I would visit the channel once in a while but after knowing all of the issues, accusations, and whatnots, I never watch them anymore. Sometimes I try, but the new reactors are so loud and their reactions are so obviously fake.
It’s funny because the whole “Milly” saga was so much worse than even you made it out to be. I remember watching when I was younger because of how edgy it was, but looking back now I remember how gross that content was. They sexualized that puppet in every single video. The puppet was supposed to be an 8 year old girl talking to grown men. I remember every now and then thinking back on those videos and wondering when they would resurface.
When it all came up again one of the staff members revealed there was still a framed photo of Milly in one of the main hallways, still pride of place sort of thing.
back in the day there was also a trend (that was briefly revived this year) of calling out reaction channels and reaction content. iDubbbz made a Content Cop on them, and while I don't think it was a direct major blow to the Fine Bros' reputation or something, it certainly helped to stoke the flames
I found FBE in 2018 and 2019 as well and it helped me out with my mental health as well now I kinda watch the channel but I don't heavily watch it like I use to
Sorry, but those two boys talking like that about Lia ... that's kinda fucked up. I stopped watching these guys nearly seven years ago now, and suffice to say I'm disappointed to find all this out. Not shocked, I already thought they were bad, garbage people, just disappointed. Come to think of it, the best thing to ever come from the Fine Bros work was all the people who were inspired to make their own videos and series. Many (read: all) of them were/are better than the bland content made by React. For instance, the Brony React series: fun, in the same style, and better than the Fine Bros shows.
Moral of the Story: No matter how successful you become, your past can always come back to haunt you. Even the smallest choices you make in the past can have the biggest impacts on your future.
Is that supposed to be a good thing? Seems pretty psychotic to me. "You made a joke a long time ago that is not PC by today's standards? Time to get kicked out of society...." is a very bloodthirsty mindset to have. A shame it's so popular these days. I haven't paid attention to them since the React World controversy and didn't realize that in the end it wasn't that that killed their channel but stupid BLM cancel culture nonsense. Never expected to walk away from this video feeling kind of bad for The Fine Bros.
I'm glad that good majority of the cast and staff left. Maybe some viewers wouldn't have known but lots of them spoke up about it on twitter at the time. It was upsetting to see certain reactors defend the Fine Bros though
I'm one of the people that stopped subscribing to them after the React World fiasco. I used to be a supporter of Benny and Rafi: their "All We Know" podcast, their rapid-fire "Spoiler" videos (even got featured on their second channel doing their blooper string and contributed elements to it), and their "Emo Dad" cartoon. The thing that left the bad taste in my mouth was Benny's portion of the apology video. He looked more like a spoiled child that was forced to apologize than an adult being sincere about his intentions. I was so incensed that I blocked their channels on UA-cam and all their social media accounts on the platforms I use. I was truly done.
I think it goes beyond all of the controversy you mentioned. I feel a lot of people who watched it (myself included) grew up and just got bored of the content.
This makes me really sad. I loved the whole react series back inthe day, especially Elders react. I loved hearing their stories, especially the ones where they realised that people actually liked watching their content and it made them cry. I realy hope all of the reactors are doing well now.
Thanks again for this video... I used to be a BIG FBE fan ... came back in 2021 and everything changed I knew it got rebranded and didn't know what happened
It’s such a crying shame watching this, literally almost the half the videos in my recommended on UA-cam from like 2011-2015 would be either a Teens, Kids, Elders or UA-camrs React video, so to hear all that shit was going on behind the scenes for most of that time is pretty heartbreaking ngl. Also what is the actual point in doing reaction videos in the first place if the reactions from the people involved aren’t even what they genuinely think and are slightly forced upon them??
Holy shit good job on 100k you deserve a million I been here since 20 k I swear I watched one your videos last week to a month ago and you were at 50 k atleast it felt like last week

Hi There! Great Video! Just one note, the Black Lives Matter Movement began in 2012 following the death of Trayvon Martin. It just gain more mainstream popularity in summer 2020😃
Back when I was in middle school, I'm eight years out of high school now, I loved The Fine Broes. But now knowing how they treated people and trying to copy right "React", I lost a lot of respect for them.
I was there back in the day watching the very early videos from like 2011-2014, but I was one of the people who unsubscribed during the react world stuff and haven't watched any videos since. I did hear about some of the other stuff, but didn't know they had actually left the channel completely.
Holy.... The apology video really stunted me how am I in an argument with them trying to say sorry to us the viewers? But the volume in their voices seems more blame shaming
It's a shame to find this stuff out about them recently since I used to watch them years ago, but stopped when I got out of high school or maybe a bit before. Also that apology video feels like they aren't sorry, they're just saying they're sorry because they got in trouble.
when I was in middle school, I used to watch millie and even submitted a question for the ask millie segment. I was just a kid and thought it was light-hearted. my question definitely got answered... I got flooded with dozens of hate messages shortly after the video posted. I had to delete my account because it was too much. For the most part I've overcome trauma, but I still wouldn't want to rewatch that video.
I remember watching "React" videos. I figured some of the reactions were staged. However, I didn't know about the racist sht and all that w/ the Fine Bros. Good riddance.
Oh man... I remember watching their content from 2010 when I was 10 myself, to I think 2015 or 2016. I watched the react series vicariously and would post collages of their videos on Instagram and got to kinda interact with the kids and teens on the React videos themselves. I loved their content, but dropped off once the controversy came along with the REACT copyright stuff in 2016
I remember when they tried to copyright the “react format” they literally said in a video or in an article that any video with the word react in it would be partially owned by them or something stupid like that. That’s what greed does
The early Fine Bros sketches "released under the RavenStake" banner were absolutely hilarious. It's a huge shame they can be no longer found online, but that only shows that with enough money, one can have quite a lot of agency in terms of removing stuff from the net. I always thought nothing got lost on the internet, but apparently stuff like "New Father's Day" or "New Year's Resolutions" (my favorite sketches by them) are lost now. I had them downloaded somewhere, but that was many years and PCs ago :(
Bro this video showed up in my recommended and I was shocked after watching and saw you only had 100k. Great work man keep it up, with content like this you’re gonna keep growing 📈📈
I used to love their stuff, the concept was brilliant: a broad demographic variety reacting to the same thing, so you could get a bouquet of opinions. But then they started what i believe is called queer baiting: the majority of the reactors were members of the LGBTQ+ community and i really didn't like that because the way the show was going on to me it felt like they were being exploited, it felt like they were a circus attraction and they were not there because of their human experience that shaped their opinion(god i hope i explained myself enough, having a little language barrier to overcome, i swear i am 100% the opposite of a homophobe). They stopped gathering opinions from all waks of life in favor of an easier-to-monetize route, and that really disappointed me.
Yeah... It seemed to go from focusing on showcasing a variety of opinions and demographics to narrowing it down by highlighting specific viewpoints and messages.

The react apology feels like I’m being yelled at and gaslit
It’s an apology that isn’t actually an apology basically
Fun fact: The oldest video from their channel was deleted and it is still there from other channels. It's basically about the Burger King mascot flipping off every other fast food and it was made around 2007.
I saw a portion of that video while it was still on their channel. I also remember another that's gone now about Charlie Brown going through puberty. I didn't watch it though, only saw the thumbnail, but I'm probably not missing much.
If you thought the Blackface video was old and racist look up GI Joe The Epic Saga
Feels so weird seeing these kids grow up
I think that has more to do with it than anything. U start watching with a certain group and after a couple years I kinda age out of it so there’s a high turnover. U have your favorites but at a certain point u don’t care to know the newbies so you unsubscribe
Crazy to know all those kids are our age 🤯
some of the girls still look smocking hot. others, like Lia, went downhill after their teens. others looked trashy from the begining and still do. in my opinion, Becca Hochman was her best when her boobs were small.
@@elessal bruhg what-
Poor Leah, though. She had some addiction problems as a young adult.
Man forgot all about that channel, watched them heavily in their early days. I feel like every UA-cam channel is bound to have some downward spiral tbh 😅
I’m glad you’re covering them, they do WAYYYY toooo much to go unnoticed 😬
Yeah I feel like they aren’t covered as much
@@BillsYT Which is really weird considering how big their channel was. I was a long time subscriber and basically grew up with FBE and unsubbed after the BLM situation, I actually didn’t know of React world until I dug up all their baggage. After watching a lot of the reactors who left statements and videos (Like Kennedy) I noped outta there.
@@zaraemoji the BLM situation?
@@isaiahp.4609 Basically what Bills said in the video, they made a Black Lives Matter Video but after Shane Dawnson’s cancellation around the same time they found Benny and Rafi’s racist videos that their black reactors had no idea about. Coupled on the fact that they weren’t treated the greatest, and that some of the reactors on the BLM video were sent death threats and were denied protection, Kennedy left and released a video explaining why which started a chain of events of other reactors leaving
@@zaraemoji that's awful
I remember when Tori and her boyfriend left FBE after the blackface scandal. They were super honest on Twitter about all the shit that went down internally at FBE that we fans never heard about
Did anything else happen that wasn’t in the video?
@@websta3924, not really. They basically said the same things as the two guys from the Tok Tok video and the girl that left because of the blackface. I think that they maybe gave some more examples of abuses inside of FBE without giving names
And yet they both worked for the company beyond just appearing in react videos.
@@luise.perezv.8702 It wasn't just the blackface. They also revealed that there racial and sexual discrimination going on behind the scenes .
Sheeeeeshhhhh
That’s a lot
I love this energy.
They didn't even lose 1 mil back then, let alone 10 mil lol
That's not sad, that's amazing!
my problem with the entire thing for me was how high and mighty they usually felt to me even tho all they did was make other people react to stuff not even themselves which just rubbed me the wrong way.
I used to watch them all the time as a kid and looking back now I’m just disappointed
I feel like I'm being scolded and yelled at for being stupid instead of an apology lol
@@Justus4Libertea It is dumb, successful, but still dumb.
Tik Tok is incredibly popular and successful, but it's the dumbest platform around
I hate those type of thumbnails. If I see a video what a thumbnail like those, I keep on scrolling.
That's what Matpat does with his Fnaf vids now
@@ralsei3157 Matpat has been cringe for years.
I just want to give props to the people who took over the channel and turned it into People Vs. Food. They did an excellent job of rebranding, many of the reactors have now returned since there's new management, and their numbers are steadily increasing again.
I'm happy for the good people that were able to keep it going without the trash at the top.
People vs Food is a separate channel, dumbass. They have many different channels.
I love listening to these while working! I remember when the whole thing went down. However, I wasn’t aware of the full story
Lmao the apology still cracks me up. "well we're sorry you guys are too stupid to understand what we were trying to do, God, ppl these days"
I could definitely do that!
@@BillsYT It's mega cringe lol. Also look at the bros talking about the movie before it released and stuff, some unintentionally funny stuff in those too, like how they said that every single person watching it will have at least one character to relate to. Also one of the dads of the students as well as one comment by the principal are kinda creepy lol.
It’s more than just cringe tbh. The statutory r*pe/pedophilia jokes were creepy and disgusting, and That whole speech the guy gives while mentioning school shooting felt so deluded and ignorant. Much like the whole film.
@@ma.2089 When even the actor who played the dad is like "I was like, you want me to say this?", they should've known to rewrite things. Poor guy, he was just doing it for the paycheck.
them being homeschooled makes so much sense
Good coverage bro yeah this one kinda blew me away. Looking into this I never expected it to get so dark or hear how bad they treated people.
Look what happened to lia
I just thought that their popularity faded. I mean it’s been a decade and a half!
hey
I used to be addicted to this channel back in the day. I stopped watching a bit during the whole tradmark controversy and by the time i looked back in the channel i was overwhelmed by the surplus of content and havent really looked back. Hell i didnt even realize it was fully relabeled as react. Sucks to hear the react cast werent even allowed to really speak their mind
I still don't understand why they didn't get as much flack as Shane Dawson for that disgusting "Hey, Millie!" show.
Exactly, they worked very closely with Shane back in the day
Oh man, I use to love watching UA-camrs react back during the reign of the British UA-camrs in ~2014, but didn't realise just how bad they became after the copyright drama
Keep up the great work, Bills!
Thank you Dylan! I will
i used to watch millie when i was like 10 and now that i look back it im truly disgusted they thought it was okay for kids my age or even younger to watch
I just saw a comment that said Millie wasn’t aimed at kids when it clearly was with the bright colors and tone
@@BillsYT Dude, that is a stupid metric to decide whether something was aimed at kids. Do you think stuff for adults has to be all somber and muted?
@@BillsYT Idk seems like you either genuinely don’t understand the humor and targeting or you just want to double down and use the show to reinforce your perspective that they were “not the people viewers thought” for doing it. Back then there were no safeguards for kids and content creators were practically kids themselves who made videos they thought were funny
Someone like Shane Dawson especially didn’t think too hard about who’d be watching his content either. Who and how his content might offend someone just wasn’t considered since the reach of youtube wasn’t nearly as big as it is today and I’m sure he thought as long as there’s no will to offend, there would be no harm done
Now that he’s older and knows his past videos had an impact on a bigger audience of people he now condemns a lot of what he’s done and see’s how his content may have been offensive to some and how today he might have the mind to never have made certain videos
It kinda sad stuff from our 2010's are slowly dying.... vine and og youtubers
I had honestly forgotten about React until I came across the tiktok of the boys. Can't say I'm surprised but I'm saddened for the kids/talent involved. I can only imagine the dark stories that some of them have to tell. Wherever there are kids, there'll always be some kind of exploitation.
I like how their apology was basically them saying how we were idiots for not understanding what they intended on doing with the trademark.
I was just completely done with them
Funny you say that, Luke TheNotable, who pioneered the minecraft 100 days format, was trying to monopolize it all for himself.

Dang I vist them too
They don’t even ‘react’ to anything anymore it’s just guessing games and try not to challenges
The moment they tried to trademark the word "React" and made a shitty apology, it was down hill from that then on.
Not surprised the greasy Fine Brothers dabbled in noncery.
One of things that weirded me out was the producer in his thirties that started dating Micala as soon as she became legal it seemed

back in the day there was also a trend (that was briefly revived this year) of calling out reaction channels and reaction content. iDubbbz made a Content Cop on them, and while I don't think it was a direct major blow to the Fine Bros' reputation or something, it certainly helped to stoke the flames
2019 was a rocky year for my mental health and watching FBE keep me entertained and smile at the time, it's a shame what they have become now.
2019 was a rocky year for me too

@@heyitsmira17 That's true. It's a sad thought :(
One of the most satisfying downfalls.
Reaction content is controversial, whether it be on UA-cam or Twitch needs to add substance and more information to the content reacting to. That's why professionals adding input and correcting or confirming is more effective. FBE react is just stealing content more than anything.
Exactly
@@BillsYT I couldn't think of the word for some reason but React channel and Twitch reaction channels like anything to be transformative with the content reacting to.
FBE was more advertising. Companies, etc would pay them to react to their products iirc

They really tried to monopolize on trademarking a whole genre of UA-cam culture of react which would of destroyed every react chanel besides them which tells you who they are
Because they tried to copyright ‘Reaction’ videos 😂
I stopped watching these guys nearly seven years ago now, and suffice to say I'm disappointed to find all this out. Not shocked, I already thought they were bad, garbage people, just disappointed.
Come to think of it, the best thing to ever come from the Fine Bros work was all the people who were inspired to make their own videos and series. Many (read: all) of them were/are better than the bland content made by React. For instance, the Brony React series: fun, in the same style, and better than the Fine Bros shows.
Moral of the Story:
No matter how successful you become, your past can always come back to haunt you. Even the smallest choices you make in the past can have the biggest impacts on your future.
Especially when former staff warned them about those videos well before they resurfaced.
I would love to see a deep dive about Channel awesome and the nostalgia critic
I could definitely add him to the list
A lot of those that appeared on UA-camrs react have either retired, done some bad shit or just straight up left UA-cam
I think it goes beyond all of the controversy you mentioned. I feel a lot of people who watched it (myself included) grew up and just got bored of the content.
The novelty wore off after a while
This makes me really sad. I loved the whole react series back inthe day, especially Elders react. I loved hearing their stories, especially the ones where they realised that people actually liked watching their content and it made them cry. I realy hope all of the reactors are doing well now.

Yeah I’m sorry that’s what I meant!! I just worded it wrong 🤦🏻♂️ my apologies
Back when I was in middle school, I'm eight years out of high school now, I loved The Fine Broes. But now knowing how they treated people and trying to copy right "React", I lost a lot of respect for them.
i never knew fine bros were the same people that created milly and me.. that’s extremely alarming as much time they spent with kids
Now knowing this, I always thought that there were some unusual hard cuts when someone was answering a question in teens and kids React.
I feel bad for every person they had on the show, especially the kids and older folks.
when I was in middle school, I used to watch millie and even submitted a question for the ask millie segment. I was just a kid and thought it was light-hearted. my question definitely got answered... I got flooded with dozens of hate messages shortly after the video posted. I had to delete my account because it was too much. For the most part I've overcome trauma, but I still wouldn't want to rewatch that video.
Completely forgot about these dudes

That’s what greed does
Damn, the finebros is so nostalgic to me. Old UA-cam is such a big part of my youth. Always so sad to see the darkness in my happy nostalgic memories
I had them downloaded somewhere, but that was many years and PCs ago :(
Honestly I think when they wanted to trademark the word react I think that's what kind of led to their downfall in some ways at least in my eyes
Bro this video showed up in my recommended and I was shocked after watching and saw you only had 100k. Great work man keep it up, with content like this you’re gonna keep growing 📈📈
I was a huge FBE fan as a teenager. It's genuinely a wonder I wasn't beat up more often at that age.
Another channel I never heard of the fine Bros Learn something new every day Keep of the good work my friend
You spoke my heart. They still overuse LGBTQ reactors like Sharon, Don, Izzy and Daniel in every second video.
Okay I’m hooked now 😂
