    I’m liking your style
    and appreciate the
great information! But unfortunately I’m finding the type and volume of your background music very distracting.

I work and sell in a mall type antique and collectables store with 30 plus vendors across the age brackets. The store is in Knoxville Tennessee.
What I see is MCM in the South is doing ok, unless you are in Atlanta where it's banging still.
What is banging in the South is primatives, brown and painted, with an Appalachian vibe. Crockery and textiles are also doing well.
Everything you have touched on is represented in the store through the various dealers. What is slumping is clear glass no matter what the era. Colored glass moves quickly again regardless of the time period.
I see a difference between the types of customers and the different budgets restraints. Younger people are looking for quality and a moderate price point. They are generally more practical in their purchases with the occasional splurge.
Older customers are buying the things that they always wanted but couldn't or didn't want to afford. This group is more willing to drop a dime just for the nostalgia. The oldest people are in it nearly always for the nostalgia. They rarely buy anything, but they are the ones who teach me the most about all the items that are in the store.
I got into the antique business looking for an art gallery that didn't take 50 percent. I sell my own artwork along with glass and other small items.
Personally, I don't collect anything, but I am very happy to be an enabler for those who do.

      Aha! Good to know!
I'm 41 and have recently began selling vintage items. For some reason, I've been envisioning people around your age as my target market. (And based on your comment, it seems like I may be on the right track with my picks!) 😁

If you're titling a video trending antiques 2024, then talk about the antiques and don't try to give an opinionated lesson on finance and the economy..

I think mcm has screeched to a hault. I sell in national markets and it’s crickets. I think the economy has finally caught up and killed disposable income.

Thanks for the input! Do you think it's the economy or do you think it's just the time of year has an input? This time of year is traditionally the slowest for my store.

That is the question. Last year I was down in sales from the year before. It’s getting harder to try to make a profit, Chairish raised fees to 30%, Etsy can potentially end up around 20% if it’s a google click referral and I typically only use my local booth space for blowing things out or less than perfect as no one in my area pays anything close to what I can get online. It’s gotten frustrating and I have been doing it 9 years. I am over working for free and will continue on as hobby and get a real job,

@@madmodworldvintage41 I think all of the online sales platforms are cracking down trying to make up for slowing sales overall. That combined with higher interest costs and warehouse rents don't help.

The entire Antique's Market is in the toilet. Good time to buy though. Issue is the market will prob never get back to where it was...

I sadly concur but also noticing prices are not moving. People still asking ridiculous money. I am looking for a real job at this point. Still have things in a co-op trying to downsize but I pulled out of my showroom space in May. Cutting expenses as much as possible.

    Very interesting! Thanks for posting.
I'd be curious to know how those dealers surveyed would describe the clients they're selling to. For instance, should we assume the 40-60 yr old Dealers are appealing more to Consumers of that same age bracket??

      @antiqueacquisitions8090  4 місяці тому +1

That might be slightly more true for retail locations, however, I would think less so for online sellers where customers have no idea who they are buying from.

People are buying “brown” furniture so they can take it home and paint it. Duh!!

The Antique Market is still as dead as a doorknob compared to 7-10 years ago. I am a buyer and seller and now is the time to buy, as stuff is being sold at a very heavy discount. The Antique's Market may never rebound to where it was and Antique Stores are still closing every day.
