I own one of the very few AC6000CW parts catalogs that CSX took delivery of. Of the total 19 of them sent to CSX, 17 were sent to heavy overhaul facilities and 2 were sent directly to the Jacksonville General Office Building. My copy covers the cab, internal computer systems, and car body. The trucks and frame were part of a seperate catalog. The engine itself had its own catalog as well. Units 600-602 are the pre-production units, and they have their own seperate parts diagrams while the 603-636 have their parts diagrams shown on the pages following the 600-602. The catalog number for the pre production units is GEX-12293-01 while the updated version is the same as the first but with 02 instead of 01. Some of the parts diagrams are dated as far back as 1987 for example, the car body door latches. Ironic how the only 3 remaining 6000’s left on CSX are the original Pre-Production units, yet are now in dead storage. If CSX donates one of them to a museum, I’ll probably bring the parts catalog to reunite it with the unit, but I won’t donate the catalog to that museum.
At first, I didn't agree with Metra's plan with the MACH's but after seeing how cheap they now are getting each locomotive at $900k ea it a smart use of funds. Hopefully they start seeing use on lines other than the Milwaukee District such as the BNSF and Rock Island District. I'm pretty sure they can't run on the Union Pacific Lines due to being too heavy for most of the bridges on the UP-North Line which is why you only see F40's and F59's on those lines and no MP36's, the newest no-rebuild locomotive in their fleet. The livery is the best of the non-heritage liveries they use.
@@Sacto1654 The grant used to electrify the corridor required that the engines be removed. If they are returned to service, it'll be as Amtrak Cabcars while Siemens is backlogged.
@@Sacto1654 I feel like Metra may be losing interest in purchasing second hand F40PHs considering how much more horsepower the SD70MACHs have compared to the F40PH and other Metra locomotives they currently have. Not to mention, the EMD 710ECO has tier 3 standards compared to tier 0 for the rest of the fleet, so while the MACHs aren't the MP54s, Chargers, or F125s when it comes to horsepower and emissions, they have likely already created a lot of savings in operating costs for Metra than buying additional second hand F40PHS would. So I think Metra could actually be more likely purchase more MACHs than second hand F40PHs, while the Caltrain F40PHS may more likely go to FIT in Mexico than Metra. Have you ever had issues with progress rail regarding fly drones over the facility? I got a cease and desist for taking a picture from the air
Hi really interesting video so thanks you for sharing. How many dead units are there in the yard looks like well over 100. In the UK older types of loco that have become surplus to requirements are sometimes bought by private individuals/groups and restored to use on the many preserved lines we have over here. Does the same thing happen over there?
UK railways are a lot different and they don’t need PSR at all
Class 3 Short lines and short lines buy surplus engines.. large industrial companies do the same
Thanks! Yeah, I would think close to 100 at Waycross.
Any idea what they plan on doing with those pan am F9s
I hate to see these locomotives rotting away in the storage yards because they are completely abandoned and abused by the elements of weather
*Same Here*
Trains have been my future dream to be a conductor and it just absolutely hurts to see them sitting in lonlyness
On a different subject, I know Birmingham AL is a train mecca. Does anyone have any recommendations for railfanning that area?
Wasn't the Paterson out facility privately owned in the not too distant past?
Hi Charlie, any idea the avereage price of a brand new locomotive ? and how much can it cost to make a rebuilt unit just an average?thank you Charlie and keep on the good work from Richard.
It's a shame to see this.

I hate to see engines meet their death. I understand it's a necessary evil, but nonetheless, hate to see it...
