STRANDED, Fantastic album, Song for Europe is so special.
Thanks for doing this.
The sax player, Andy Mackay was a co-write with Ferry for this track. So Andy was largely responsible for the music on this track.
I’d also say this period was peak Ferry for the lyrics he was writing.
The way they worked was they put down the music before Ferry wrote the lyrics. There was a story Phil Manzanera told in a book about the track that followed this on the LP, Mother of Pearl. Quite a long track, and how Ferry recorded it in one take, the band had never heard the lyrics and it transformed the track. The studio erupted with cheering and applause after he sung the lyrics.
You could imagine a similar sort of feeling when he sung the lyrics to this in English, Latin and French.
Simply superb.
I heard them perform this live in 1974. Out of this world. And incredibly loud.
There is a soulful nature that this song captures. To have experienced love in Europe is to experience true romance in terms of people and places.
I just saw Roxy Music & they were incredible. For Your Pleasure is my favorite album by them. In Every Dream Home A Heartsche my favorite song. Nice clip 👌
We've done that song too. It was great. If you haven't, please check it out. It was a while back.
Have you guys done the song called "over you" by Roxy music
Music by Andrew Mackay - Absolute masterpiece. Lyrics and performance by BF amazing - my all-time favourite Roxy song. Incomparable.
One of Roxy's "must be played at any concert" songs! If you want to hear Bryan sing in German check out "Bittersweet".
This song is so beautifully fleshed out. My goto karaoke song lol very dramatic but so heartfelt! A classy fun sexy and erudite band... glad for your reactions of them! 😊
Nobody sounds as melancholy as Ferry even the French : )
or in latin :)
Probably the most thought provoking songs they ever did
This is my favorite song by Roxy Music.
Everything great about Roxy Music comes together on this song.
Think old black and white films that Humphrey Bogart stared in, and WW II Crooner.
this live. would be a show. fans favorite
cheers
One of my favourite Roxy tracks. You need to tweak your irony detectors a little! This is the most glorious send up of the melodrama that typifies European (especially French) 'pop' music. The way the piano turns into a sort of barrel organ, the high, fast vibrato (think Edith Piaf), the operatic overblown emotion, all too much & impossible to take seriously. It wouldn't be out of place in the Eurovision Song Contest. Like all the best parodies it is affectionate & understands there is something real driving the genre despite all the excess. Brilliant!
sends up but also plays homage to some of those French classic singers, writers....:)
@@poxyrob Absolutely! The best parodies are made by people who can see the virtues in the original, as well as its absurdities.
Yep ! Cant beat a bit of "Roxy Music " proper smooth style ! They did great covers of "Jealous Guy " Lennon ,and
"Like a Hurricane " Neil Young ! Even better on the Live version ! Think the mini album they are on is called
"Roxy musique the high Road " cheers !
I've always thought this song should be the soundtrack for a cool old movie, set in 30's Vienna!
I don't think you've done anything from the live album, Viva. He hinted!
Both Ends Burning maybe.
We should tell you that the sax player wrote the music here - Andy MacKay.
Bryan Ferry has recorded many great covers, but damn he could write awesome and unique originals.
My favourite ever song by far
Melodramatic!!!
An absolutely fantastic track. An anthem for all us Brexit haters here back in the UK!
Well it was first recorded in 73
Love Roxy Music!! My older brother was into their early arty albums but I fell into the Flesh + Blood and Avalon camp.
I met some of Roxy Music when they toured Australia around 1981, and I thought Bryan Ferry was very handsome. I was 13, lol.
I don't have any Roxy Music requests, but I do have a couple of songs by an English band called Fischer Z - Perfect Day and So Long (both videos on Warmer Music Videos channel)
These songs came out in different times in my life. So Long was a big hit in Australia when I was 12, and Perfect Day was a minor hit when I was 20. Great times!
Cheers
Suggestion:
Mi-Sex / Computer Games
I prefer their bouncier stuff but a great band.
Do you have to wait until three or four people suggest a song until thinking about reacting to it? Just a genuine query!
thats a good question ? Perhaps we could agree on some tunes for requesting ! all we need is another listener to implement a cunning plan !
@G Hichens What would you really like to hear? I supplied a few Talk Talk songs for their delectation, but only from 86 onwards. Maybe that's not your thing though.
@@CAdams6398 Really, it's goes on feeling. We read all the comments that are available, and have even gone into the comments on review (some of them shouldn't be on review, so we've cleared them) and found as many song suggestions as we could, and placed them on our spreadsheet. Sometimes it's a mood thing. Sometimes we see heightened interest in a particular artist, and we go with them. A very unscientific method, we know.
@@CAdams6398 We just went to our list to check on what you'd requested and found no Talk Talk. We must have missed one of your comments. Which one did you want us to listen to?
@@hanierfamily Thanks for informing me.
Roxy presaged _BREXIT_ by nearly 50 years.
lol
It's actually a peaen to European culture... nothing to do with the artificial political construct of the EU
Are you sure it Europe? Never! Really?
