cynthiamartin....
Roxy Music is not always easy but their first five albums are as good as it gets in modern music.
They are master class. Stranded and Siren ( i know) are my 2 fsvs. Cheers
Especially the first two.
You are exactly right.the 1st 5 records are spectacular! ..my faves are Stranded and Sirens..Country Life is # 3
Avalon is right there, just in a different way
Arguably their best song. Check out Prairie Rose, as well.
Both absolutely outstsanding definitely in my top 10 of all Roxy tracks.
This is my favorite Roxy song. And speaking of Duran Duran, they have been very public about how Roxy Music influenced them. So much so that they (specifically Simon LeBon and John Taylor) were the ones to induct Roxy Music into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. Duran Duran themselves will be inducted in November.
My favorite RM song too
That glass electric violin was absolutely brilliant. Well done Eddie Jobson. You enhanced a brilliant song !
Roxy Music had three periods: 1. Highly experimental with Eno (first two albums) 2. Highly musical with Eddie Jobson on keyboards and violin (albums (three to five 3. Smooth songwriting 1978-82...
The great Eddie Jobson on violin, also played with Frank Zappa & UK.
Roxy Music- fabulous. Majorly influential- saw them in '75, love them.
With John Wetton on bass! Lucky you!
Thank you for yet another great reaction, and for doing this track. This track does use phasing a lot more than any other Roxy Music track, but that's what makes its stand out.
1974. Innovative use of the electric violin. Great bass lines.
I've been listening to these Roxy Music songs since I was a kid so know what to expect. However, It's amazing to see the looks on your faces when you hear them for the first time. Timing changes, phasing, and everything else thrown in. Looks like the phasing and flanging was hurting you both towards the end. LOL. X
There's a monstrous live version of this on the album, Viva.
And fun fact, guitarist Phil Manzanera has spent years and years in Dave Gilmour's touring band.
Dont know where you are but sky arts channel is showing Dave Gilmour in Gdansk(featuring Phil)this Friday night.
@@alaska_uk1303 cool, i saw it was the anniversary, but hadn't realised it was going to be shown.
Great song from 'Country Life'!. They opened their most recent tour with this track. Gotta love the oboe too.
The key features are the bass-line and the violin solo at the end - watch them play it live in 1970s!

Awesome song. But as per commentary below, the first 5 albums are where its at. Check out live version video Midnight Special.
So glad you two arent afraid to peer into the unknown. Keep exploring for more gems.
Anyways, after Brian Eno decided to leave the band they brought on a young whiz kid named Eddie Jobson, who played electric violin and synth. This is one of Roxy Music's 2 most iconic songs. It has what is considered to be the best electric violin solo in Rock. Two members of Duran Duran, their vocalist, and bassist were the ones who introduced Roxy Music at the Rock & Roll Hal Of Fame induction ceremony. Their bassist, who has said this in interviews, restated at this ceremony that there literally wouldn't have been a Duran Duran without Roxy Music. The phasing sound is just to add more of a feeling of speed to the song, and IMO, is a great transition into that awesome violin solo.
Never heard this song before, i liked it.
I hope overtime you like jarring aspects and weird timings... as mentioned by others a favorite of mine of RM but from any group... That bass line is out of this world! They way thebsong crescendos at the end is as complex as any classical or jazz piece out there!
Ladytron is another great song by roxy the John peel session is just amazing
We checked out the studio cut of Ladytron. We enjoyed it.
@@hanierfamily thank you for your reply I would be grateful if you can do a 80s band from my hometown dundee Scotland the associates the song is party fears two from 1982
Weird? Roxy rocks !!!
I asked for this one too🥲😀, one of my all-time favourites. How about "Sentimental Fool" from Roxy next, has a two and a half minute intro, but well worth the ride!!
Oops. We really need to build that database we keep talking about.
Love it! My fav Roxy Album.
Talking of spy movies, have you ever heard Play Dead by Bjork? The best James Bond movie intro that never was (though somebody did a brilliant adaptation of Spectre using it).
I love the fact that you reacted to many Roxy Music songs. I would recommend watching the Roxy Music Live at the Apollo 2002 video. It's a really incredible way of revisiting Roxy.
it may get blocked if it's live at The Apollo
Yeah, Duran Duran, sure!
Start with "Carpet Crawlers " from Genisis album "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.
it,s pleasant and melodic and one of their most popular
I was playing this almost all the time before you two were born. Now do one on Mozarts Requiem.
Roxy Music have always had a bit of the avant-garde about them. You have to stick with them to really begin to appreciate their stylistic genius. I think Cynthia is a Roxy Music fan waiting to be discovered - by herself. Let me recommend the band Be Bop Deluxe led by Bill Nelson. Try Axe Victim, Fair Exchange, Life in the Air Age and so many other fantastic songs I can't think of at the moment - Oh also - Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape etc.
just a comment about the phasetransitions: They don't jar me out of the tune at all; it's like you're circling around a whirlpool and it sucks you down faster and shoots you out into the next stanza.
just let yourself go with it ...
well put
My only Love and Pyjamarama have great sax playing.
We did Pyjamarama, we added the other one to our list.
@@hanierfamily Thanks.
Love Roxy Music. Play RM 's live from 2001 Apollo. It's awesome. Out of the Blue and Both Ends Burning.
Out of the Blue and Both ends Burning also appear on their livealbum VIVA! Roxy Music. Awesome versions as well.
Try Just Like You by Roxy. Just a simple short beautiful track with lovely lyrics and a gently, but one of Phil’s best guitar solos.
Theresa lot of great music from there early 70,s albums their extremely accomplished musicians
Phil collins is mainly the drummer with backing vocals. Gabriel is the front man and creates
a lot of theatrical performances
duran duran modelled itself after roxy
You need the live version
I'm going to direct you back to Kate Bush. This time , the song Pi as in the mathematical equation. Believe it or not, it's Kate singing all the numbers of Pi but in a really cool way. Trust me on this!
Roxy were a huge influence on Duran Duran
We don't doubt that. Both bands are great.
They can’t even see that it’s a violin .
I know..........Come on people, it's a space-age, see-through, electric violin - played by the great Eddie Jobson!
another super group who does this is early Genisis in the early 70,s with Peter Gabriel
We don't know that much early 'Gabriel' Genesis.
@@hanierfamily See comment on top about early 70, s Genesis I missed this reply line.
You do know this pre-dates DD by a decade at least and they are massive Roxy fans?
Iirc, members of Duran Duran inducted Roxy into the hall of fame. They've always readily admitted that without Roxy Music, there could have been no Duran Duran.
ORIGINAL!!!!!
thats a electric violin tha ends it
Really nice!
Phil Manzanera admitted to hitting a bum note in the guitar solo but thought he wouldn’t be able to get a better take if he did it again so they left it as it was.
That's what we love about listening to music. The humanity. Sometimes we mess up. And if it sounds great despite it, we accept it.
I agree you have to listen to roxy songs a few times because thers alot going and you,ll
find very few that are similar which is another highlite of thier style which is there is no roxy style it is what it is
with every song
We're really enjoying the music.
A llot like 2HB.
