Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails famously said “I was born to write it, but Johnny was born to sing it”. And “The song isn’t mine anymore. It’s Johnnys”.
He didn't say that. Bono made that quote, saying that Trent Reznor was born to write it but Johnny was born to sing it. Trent actually was against the idea of a cover of his song and he said it made him feel weird when he first heard it. It was only he saw the music video that he actually came around on Johnny's version and what it had morphed into.
In his interviews towards the end, he talked about how lucky he had been in his life. Even as his body was increasingly frail, he radiated a kind of optimism and gratitude. I hope I face the end with that kind courage and grace.
The vocals, the inteumental, the directing, the lighting, the editing, the lyrics (only half of one line changed), absolutely every about this video and production feom beginning to end is a masterpiece. I think of it as an opus to a swansong album. Cash wasn't known much for cover songs, but this is hands down my favorite cover ive heard in my 40 years. So glad you both enjoyed it and appreciate the masterpiece is truly is 🥰
Just stumbled upon this. Trent Reznor wrote this, but Johnny made it his own and really put the pain in the forefront. Nice reaction guys. Check out his 25 minutes to go and his cover of Rusty Cage. 💛🤘🤙✌️
Johnny Cash's children were warned prior to viewing the video. They said to him "Dad, this sounds like you are saying goodbye" He replied, well I am. Johnny Cash knew the end was near for him.
Thank you! Thank you for watching the video to the very end. The closing of the fallboard then his gently brushing his hands across it then resting on it brings the song to its full conclusion, it completes the story. You two got it.
The whole song and video hits you like a train. Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) wrote this as a young man raging at the world. Johnny turned it around as a lament really, as an old man looking back over his years, trying to put triumph, torment, and loss into some sort of perspective. He knew his time here was now short. The very end where he closes the piano lid tells me that he knew and his mission on Earth was complete, all the good and the bad. From the fast cuts at the end that include Jesus and the cross he knew where he was going and could now be at peace finally. I'm 75 and frequently go through those reflective periods, and I can see the end of my runway from here. And like Johnny I know where I am going too. Thank you, my God, Lord, and King Jesus. Amen!
The video was filmed at Johnny's place and June had come down the stairs to make sure he wasnt working too hard. You can see the concern on her face. It was purely accidental. The director captured her on the stairs (unintended). The scene of him closing the piano was really sad. It was the last time he played that piano.
If this doesn't strike a person to the depths of their soul, then they have no soul. The woman in the video was his wife June Carter Cash of the famous Carter bluegrass legacy (her mother and grandmother exposed America to bluegrass) who died shortly after this video, with Johnny shortly to follow. Look it up to honor them both.
This song HURT was originally written and done by Trent Reznor of the Metal Band Nine Inch Nails about his addictions (His Demons) but after he heard this cover from John Cash Mr Reznor said quote unquote this isn't my song its his talking about Mr Cash .the person who you see on the stairs is Mr Cash widow June Carter (Cash) who passed away short after the video was released Johnny Cash The MAN IN Black left this world Shortly after .
Imagine being a recovering addict and then have to take insulin shots in your older age...the old familiar sting. This is the last video he recorded before he died.
The film is called Walk the Line (2005) starring Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash and Reese Witherspoon as June Carter. Check out Johnny Cash singing ‘Man in White’.
Check out R.E.M. Everybody Hurts… but for just check out A-ha Take On Me… the video, before technology of today, won several awards… nice song, great video (and video story)… Kid Rock Care is a beautiful song as well…
Trent was actually upset when he heard Johnny did this song cause when Trent wrote it, it came from a very personal dark place in his life. Then he heard it, and loved it.
The movies was " walk the line" the actors name is Joaquin Phoenix. He played. In Gladiator. And he also played The joker in the joker movie ... He is reprising his joker role with lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. In the upcoming joker. 2 movie

Pish you guys say your old. Unless your younger than 27 you should jave at least heard of Johnny Cash my children are aged 37, 27, 26, 24, 22 & 19 and they all know who Johnny Cash was
The song is frankly painful to listen to and with the swirling evocative video - it's practically unbearable. The life and strife of a whole family in four minutes.
@@ACoupleReactions Yes, I could not hear your conversation well at all, but the song was fine. I just now subscribed to your channel, so am looking forward to hearing more from the both of you! Catch ya later.
This was Johnny's last song he recorded. His wife passed a few month's later and Johnny soon followed her.
"Man in Black" is how Johnny describes himself. It is a great song. Good luck on your journey.
Definitely gonna have to give it a go! Thanks for watching 😊
I love Jonny Cash❤ I'll see him again one day.
I wish I had one more day with my dad. This song makes my cry every time I hear it.

Such a sad video 😢 but great artist!
He didn't write the song, but he really made it his. Good to see your generation get it. Good reaction.
In his interviews towards the end, he talked about how lucky he had been in his life. Even as his body was increasingly frail, he radiated a kind of optimism and gratitude. I hope I face the end with that kind courage and grace.
June passed 5/15/2003, Johnny followed 9/12/2003. The video was released 3/1/2003.

Will have to check that one out! Thanks for watching 🙌
This is a cover of a Nine inch nails song. You should do the original to compare and contrast the 2 different meanings and moods
We will have to check that one out as well. Thanks for watching!
@@ACoupleReactions yeah it’s the original.
@@ACoupleReactions Nine Inch Nails loved Johnny's version and said it is forever his song.
Johnny Cash's children were warned prior to viewing the video. They said to him "Dad, this sounds like you are saying goodbye" He replied, well I am. Johnny Cash knew the end was near for him.
Sing from Nashville I can tell you when this came out it was beautiful but we all felt that this was his goodbye and it was.

Great reaction! And a song from Johnny Cash I would suggest is "A Boy Named Sue", it'll make you chuckle! I'm looking forward to more reactions! 🤘

this was Johnny Cash's farewell song to all of us ....watch Walk the line ... you will see what I'm talking about

That moment was very touching to say the least, you could see the raw emotions on her face. Such a sad yet beautiful moment 💸
Was literally saying good-bye with this song
He had a rough life, battling addiction and such. This is him reflecting.
Knowing Johnny 's history his version of this song went straight to my top 10 of all time.
He loved grew. And passed 😢 1 of the greats
Oh wow, it hurts to see young folks who do not know the history of this man. It’s an amazing story
Ya’ll are awesome!! Keep it up!

I loved the Johnny Cash show. Turned me on to a lot of musicians.
This one's almost hard to listen to.
Hits ya HARD
I think he wanted that song for everybody to reflect on themselves .
This song was written by Nine Inch Nails but Cash made it his swan song. Beautiful and touching
Imagine being a recovering addict and then have to take insulin shots in your older age...the old familiar sting. This is the last video he recorded before he died.
Him and his wife June (standing behind him in the video) both died within 6months of this
Read his biography so this song came at him in the end . He found love and stability
Jonny and June stuck through everything. Jonny fell into the bottle then into drugs. But their love for each other...wow.
Great reaction!!!
I'll be back!
If this doesn't drag the heart out of you you don't have one 😢
Johnny Cash DID hurt a lot of people, that's why this song works. He was a drug addict and had a lot of demons.
this is a cover of a nine inch nails song . This was about the last song he made before he passed away

This is actually a cover that Johnny did, it's a 9 inch nails song
Trent reznor wrote this and he said johnny made it his, BTW women are like wine the older the vintage the better😄
This song is a NIN song that Trent gave to Jonny Cash and was the last song Mr Cash sung
Se ve tan triste el señor y lo tenía todo!
