Queen was THE band, all 4 were highly talented and amongst the top ever in their specialty: Mercury lead vocals and piano, May guitar, Taylor, drums, and Deacon bass guitar. All 4 of them wrote top hit songs.
Their live performances were een better than the studio recordings. At Live Aid, a charity concert in 1985 viewed by over a billion people, with almost all the greatest bands at the time participating, Queen stomped the lot, with Freddie Mercury actually, against doktor advice, singing with a sore throat.
Mercury/Queen could basically walk up the stage and have the audience sing the whole concert on their own if they wanted to .... that was the engergy they brought.
The very high notes are actually sung by the drummer (Roger Taylor) and are some of the highest recorded notes, going into the top range of very high skilled female opera singers.
One thing that might be good to know: the Queen official channel does not block (most of) its vids for reactions.
You are in for a ride 🙂
They managed even to convert someone only listening to classical music (me) :-)

The vocalist is Freddie Mercury on the piano. He wrote and composed this song it’s considered his masterpiece. The guitarist is Brian May, bass player is John Deacon, drummer is Roger Taylor. Just to clarify, the mother didn’t kill a man, he’s telling his mother he killed a man and he knows he’s going to have to pay the price for it. That’s why he says life had just begun but now I’ve gone and thrown it all way. Didn’t mean to make you cry. If I’m not back again tomorrow carry on as if nothing ever happened. Any way I think you’ve heard Queen’s music. Some their songs are We Are the Champions, We will Rock You and Another One Bites the Dust.

They were told not to release it as a single because it's nearly 6 minutes long, but It went straight to number 1 for 9 weeks. It was rereleased after Freddie died & went straight back to number 1 again for 5 weeks. Queen's most famous song, it's the UK's 3rd best selling single of all time & sold 6 million copies worldwide. It reached number 2 in the USA after it featured in Waynes World in 1992. I can't believe there are people in the world who still haven't heard this epic song! Glad you both enjoyed it.

Love seeing new people discover the best best band that has ever graced a stage. All 4 members are master musicians. All are college educated. Brian May, lead guitarist, is also a doctor of astrophysics, as well as having been dubbed "Sir" Dr.Brian May. He and his father constructed the red special, his first guitar, made from scraps of metal and wood when Brian was in his teens. Roger Taylor's drumming abilities are off the chart. John Deacon, the bass guitarist and electronics wizard, devised an amp system that others now try to achieve. And then....there's Freddie Mercury. 4 octave range, a killer vibrato ability, astounding stage presence, power and charisma and a God given ability to use his voice in stunning ways.
There's a ton of stuff to learn about Queen, from their amazing harmonics to their vast catalogue of superior music to their very wide range of the genres you'll find in their music.
Watch a few videos. Begin with the 1981 Montreal Concert when they do "Somebody to Love" and 1985 set at Live Aid. There are fascinating backstories and superior music waiting for you when you slip into the Queen rabbit hole. Enjoy the journey!!

There's a lot of us, so your channel will explode too. I HIGHLY recommend "Somebody To Love" and "Save Me" in their 1981 Montreal concert, and "White Queen" live at the Hammersmith Odeon in 75. As someone who was in high school in the early ‘70’s, I have to say that Queen is decidedly NOT a “hippie band.” If such things exist, maybe that would apply to bands who did folk music or blue brass. But simply the presence of long hair and 70’s-type clothing does not turn them into hippies! Anyway, thanks for doing this Queen reaction. BEST BAND EVER!

Awesome reaction! It is so wonderful when young people discover, and appreciate the unique art of great music from the past. Queen is literally, agreed by all who know music, to be one of the best rock bands ever to exist. Your journey down the Queen path cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody. In fact, your journey into great MUSIC of the past cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody!
Bohemian Rhapsody, was released in 1975 on the album "A Night at the Opera" which gives a hint as to the musical genre. Freddie Mercury (lead singer and pianist) was a huge fan of opera so this song was written as an operatic suite consisting of five distinct parts: an acapella intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock section, and a reflective coda. Generally it is classified as rock-and-roll, but specifically as a "rock opera" and "progressive rock." Truth is, labeling any Queen song, or Queen the band, is next to impossible!
"Bohemian" describes an unconventional, artistic style with freedom and individuality as key elements. "Rhapsody" in musical composition refers to a single work comprised of episodic, diverse pieces arranged into a free-flowing structure designed to heighten emotions. This song came to be because Freddie had pieces of songs he never completed, so he put them together, each section totally different yet masterfully blended into a truly epic masterpiece. It is the band's magnum opus, and is unanimously considered one of the best songs ever written.
As for the meaning of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Freddie was purposefully vague. As with most of the greatest songs, the lyrics are written to be poetic and mysterious. Are they literal or figurative? As separate pieces initially, should the song have a singular meaning? Who knows! The meaning is open to interpretation for each listener to decide, based on how the music and lyrics touched them. You will read comments claiming the song's meaning, but the fact is, the entire band has never stating a specific meaning and has been firm that there isn't one, or if Freddie DID have a specific interpretation, he never shared it. Any assertion of the meaning pertaining to Freddie's sexuality are speculative and because certain groups WANT that to be the meaning.

Early 1970's was the zenith of rock music. I am now 71 years old, and I still have ticket stubs from concerts of MAJOR bands and the price was between six and eight dollars. If it wasn’t mentioned:
The a capella harmonies at the beginning, are actually ALL Freddie Mercury. (Even tho all four band members are lip syncing.) Freddie recorded himself singing five different parts, then overlaid them.
    RECOMMENDATION…
    Queen has a song/music video:
    “INNUENDO”
…Which is considered to be the 1990s counterpart to “Bohemian Rhapsody” (kind of like book ends).
There are folks (myself included) who think the song “Innuendo” might be considered to be even BETTER than “BoRhap”, and the animated music video was award-winning!
(It was the last song/music video that Queen released while Freddie was still alive, not long before his passing.)🖖

@@ACoupleReactions Kanye must have been a Queen fan. He even tried to sing BoRap live once. Did not go well but he did his best to pay tribute to it. To be fair, it is hard to sing any Freddie song. His voice was as unique as it was powerful. I hope you do more Queen. A very diverse band with a boatload of hits and even more hidden gems scattered across their massive catalog.

Once you get to know Freddie you will see exactly what this song is about. Queen is not just the best band of the 70's......they are the best of all time. But you need to listen to their greatest hits, for starters, then you will see the magic of Freddie, and Queen. One of the greatest preformsnces was Live Aid, and live in Montreal in '81, Somebody to Love.

Kanye would have to bow to these guys. The guitarist is a PHD.
You grew up listening to a genre that might change the beat or groove in a song once. This song is from A. Progressive Rock and B. Queen. Changing rhythms and time signatures is a hallmark of all rock especially Progressive. Everybody I grew up with knew this song by heart.

"Mama, hust killed a man. Put a gun against his head, pulled the trigger and now he's dead". It's a metaphor. He's talking about himself. He killed the man he was to assume the new man he became.
Look for the explanation for all the lyrics. It's surprising.

Freddie Mercury aspired to be an opera singer. Before he died he got a chance to sing with a famous female opera singer. No one had a voice with his range.

Yes, this is a Rock Opera. The music producers and radio stations did NOT know what to do with this RIDICULOUSLY long and weird song. But the kids? (of which I was one) WE LOVED IT! And made it a hit. It is iconic. EVERYONE (under a certain age back then) knew this song. It continues to be iconic. Freddie Mercury, well, there was NO ONE like him. And there never will be. He died of AIDS much too young.

Thank you for your reaction. It refreshing to see someone who has their own preference in music, yet is able to say that as long as it's good music, you'll like it.
Regarding Kanye West: Queen paved the way for, and inspired generations of musicians to come. 'Nuff said.
It's impossible to say what genre of music Queen play. The four of them have produced music from virtually every genre of music. The four are very talented musicians from an age where electronic enhancement was unknown, and guitar distortion was considered leading edge. To survive in those times, there was no room for weak musicians in any band

If Freddie Mercury were still alive today he would be 77 years of age, I was born one week after him in 1946. He was extremely talented. It is thought the man he killed in the song was his previous self when he came out of the closet and informed his mother he was gay.

This song didn't shock everybody because in those times there was so much beautiful music and so much talent around. I'm so displeased to say that nowadays, unfortunately, it's very different and a lot of famous performers couldn't even step up a stage if we were in 1975.
