The EHX catalog will be the size of a telephone directory if you keep this output up... great work as usual.

This comment has aged like wine - they are still at it!
The graphic is fantastic and perfect for this combination!
Cody Rathman I love it, reminds me of an old school graphic that I could see on a Powell Peralta or Santa Cruz board.
Just got one.. In 38 years of playing I must say this is the best and greatest overdrive I have ever owned... Totally blown away... Be it through a Tweed Princeton, AC15 and a 2 x12 Katana it is nothing short of amazing.. And a blue collar price to boot!! Thank you EHX xx
Good choice. I have one and its been in pretty much constant use for 3-4 years. Still works fine with no issues. I have pedals that are 2-3x the price that i cant say that about.
I used to use it to "tube" up my sound before i got my first real amp. It also just felt way better to play through this than directly into my amp sim. It has very "amp-like" response that i like.
My two amps are JetCity 20hv and a Engl Ironball 20 and this pedal sounds great into any of them. Cheers!
That rage against the machine was on point!!!!! God damn that's so awesome!!!!!!
i bought this pedal a few years ago and just put it in storage with the rest of my unused pedals. Fast forward to today, i am getting ready to sell a bunch of my unused pedals and decided to give the Hot Wax one last try, and i'm glad i did. Thru my Gibson Melody maker & JCM800 50w i'm getting some really nice overdrive / distortion with this pedal. This pedal can easily cover any genre from blues, rock, to punk & metal. The hot wax is definitely going on my pedal board.
Honestly probably the best duel overdrive pedal of any kind
This is my favorite EHX pedal I own, and probably my favorite OD pedal I own!
Would I be able to play deftones songs with this pedal I want a driving pedal song example “be quiet and drive”
One of the very best overdrive pedals still in 2022
If I had a bunch of money I would "pedal subscribe" to EHX...as in,everytime they released a new pedal it would be shipped directly to me and deducted from my bank account automatically, because they are hard pushed to ever make a bad pedal, love nearly everything they've ever made. Best pedal company ever.
the artwork alone makes me wanna buy it
Finally!!! I've been asking for a clean blend on a Hot Tubes for a couple years now, even went as far as talking to the developer of the original circuit to see if he could help. Guess somebody else thought this might be a great idea, too!
I use one & can honestly say that it gives me most of the great classic drive tones ever recorded (I use old Marshall plexi's,Vox AC30's & 15's as well as a selection of old Fender amplifiers & various Rivera's,Boogies & a variety of other old valve lovlies.
The Hot Wax does the job plus it stacks up excellently with other pedals too!!!
This is a winner plus it's also priced competitively but don't let that fool you as in my opinion it qualifies as a boutique pedal!!!
Finally I find a demo video where they use a rickbacker for the bass demo! Sounds good
Just came back to watch the rest of this demo because I got halfway thru it and went and bought one of these pedals. That was last week and this pedal still has me exploring options with it. Amazing pedal and it works really well with other pedals. I use the Hot Tubes into a TS9 and it just hums. The Crayon side is always a little bright for me alone but blending both channels together and this pedals rocks. Thanks for making this demo, I had overlooked the pedal every time I walked in that shop and a buddy showed me a Hot Cakes pedal vid and this was on the recommendations. I'm so very grateful I clicked on it!
Interesting, thanks for sharing, Brother.
EHX is really knockin' it out of the park lately. Keep up the good work and great vid!
My overdrive section of my board is all EHX. East River Drive - Hot Wax - Big Muff Op Amp Orange fuzz. Its fucking killer.
My favorite pedal I own is the metal muff with top boost but this sounds really good, might have to put it on the birthday list which is in 8 days
Recently got one....it's become my go-to pedal on bass AND guitar.
Really pleased with this pedal it's got a great range of overdrive with the crayon side drive turned before 9 o'clock it's like a fairly clean boost with the volume turned up and with both sides cranked up it sounds huge!
Amazing pedal. It works with everything! Solid state, digital, tube, synthesizers. Keeping it!
I shouldn't even write this yet because I'm still in the honeymoon phase-- but I got mine in the mail this afternoon. I spent about an hour noodling with the different sounds... and damn. Just damn. I am currently in a 90's cover band and was looking for something less "Tubescreamery" for my lighter OD sound. I have been using a Green Rhino, and it's a great pedal, but not quite the tool I was looking for. I'm digging the hairier sound I'm getting out of the Crayon side. But I was stunned how badass the Hot Tube side, or the two stacked together can get. I wasn't sure if the "70's CMOS" description of the pedal would give me a sound I found useful, but I was immediately hearing that type of fuzzy distortion that is all over 90's music. It reminded of "Sixteen Stone" era Bush, for example. I've still got to put it through some paces in the full band context, but-- man-- this is a cool pedal.
EHX’s best kept secret. A good overdrive is worth its weight in gold in the studio.
This video really helped me in the decision to buy this pedal for my bass. Amazing decision. Replaces a whole section of OD/distortion pedals. Amazing purchase.
Incredible demo as always... I have your east river drive and I love it
The two combined together sound very interesting!
Amazing demo and a killer pedal!
I love dual drive pedals, I've started my collection
The graphic is just pure awesomeness ~!1
Just ordered on reverb. Cant wait to get it!!!! Sounds like its gonna be awesome with some single coils. 😁🎸✌
Haven't even finished the video and I'm in love with the artwork already
Sounds awesome. Now I know which gain pedal I'm getting next ! 😃
Sounds like a fine pairing of drives for stacking which together covers alot of sonic ground from a clean boost through to fairly high-gain modern distortion.
Quality demonstration and enjoyed the kind of RATM-esque riff you good bloke's jammed out the video with which indeed more than qualifies the Hot Wax as bass guitar versatile.
I'll be trying one when I am able to, All the best to all the EHX team \m/
I love the Crayon and I'm very intrigued by this pedal also love the Hendrix riff at the start Freedom!!!
Getting one of these bad-boys for Christmas! Can't wait to try this out (w/ LP and Strat)
Adding a blend knobs to all of your new pedals is going to make me buy exactly all of them for my bass
Just used it in a track after putting the pedal down for a while. The leads sang. A great pedal. Don’t overlook it.
You guys are mental! Amazing job! 🤘🏻
Beautiful sounding pedal❤❤❤i would definitely get one!!!
Great Demo, going to purchase. Bravo.
tempted to get it just for the artwork ehx always nails it with the prints
I was stucked in between the crayon and the hot tubes: which one to buy?
Problem solved! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha me too!
That's it that's the the sound.
Ehx siempre nos sorprende. Excelentes sonidos y prestaciones...!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I like this tone. I’m in the market for some new toys. This might be a new member of the family.
really cool pedal
I always have room for one more overdrive box.
WOW this sounds amazing!!
EHX dos it AGAIN!! Love this beautiful new combined pedal. Some sweet tones, combined with flexibility, perfect for the gigging player.....looks like I better make room on my pedal board ;)
i own both this and the bass big muff. To my ear, the left/hot tubes side can achieve sounds identical to the Bass Big Muff. So if youre looking for a Bass Big muff pedal with the addition of a Crayon pedal this pedal is more bang for your buck. i've never owned a regular big muff, but this pedal might be comparable to it as well
I definitely hear the song God-zilla by Blue Oyster Cult in this pedal
The Hot Tubes always sounded that way to me, as well. Definitely early BOC.
Same, I play it with my band and the second guitarist is jealous of the Hot Wax so it sounds close to BOC!
I see this as an improvement on the Hot Tubes. When I had one, I missed a blend control and individual controls for lows and highs. But I use pedals for electronic music production, so I really need that blend knob :)
Insightful comment
stunning!
I Freaking Love this pedal. Will definitely be getting one. Thanks guys and I subbed.
No comical beginning? Great pedal, more stacking, e.g. big muff + glove = big gluff.
cattleprods911 big gluff wins for today 🙂
Germanium od / od glove
Green Russian big muff pi / Octavix
Muff od / op amp big muff pi
Lpb2 / bad stone
The original in guitar effects hits another one out of the park
God that is going to be my pedal 100% sure
excelent for that AC/DC and GNR sound!
hello!!! Hi, I'm sorry, I'm new to guitar effects. To play like guns and roses or ac dc I need crayon or hot tubes, or both together
Sweeeeet Strat, cool pedal!
This will be my go to drive pedal, wicked :)
Wow, lovin it..
super bass groove
I like it. Keep it up guys.
Excellent !!
Sounds fkn awesome
This looks awesome. EHX makes all my favorite pedals, but I'm still hoping for a nano-sized Pulsar Tremolo!
Not a bad combination. Will have to add an extension to my pedal....again!
Sounds amazing! And I love that your pedals are excellent value too!
I didn't realise that EHX also had a pedal called the Crayon, just like JHS... and both announced on the same day back in 2015 according to Google. I'm guessing it was too late for either company to change the name so you both came to an agreement. Go on EHX, tell us the story!
The crayon by jhs is a paired down version of the colourbox. It is somewhat of a console/fuzz. The ehx crayon is a transparent or fullrange od. Josh has a UA-cam video and he hasn't done an episode on ehx or sovtek yet, which is so strange...
Sounds great - very retro. I love EH pedals (I've got a few). I recently spilled beer on my beloved 70's Poly Phase. I hope it can be repaired.
Sorry we do not work on stuff from the 1970's but guys on the EHX forum do. Check here:
www.ehx.com/forums/viewforum/8/
Thank you!!!!!!
I never met an EHX I didn't like.
Same here!!!
My personal favourite go to default pedal is definitely the Hot Wax here as is gives me the majority of the history of the last 7 decades of electric guitar music (if I need more extreme tones drive wise it plays well with other pedals from other companies) & on my pedalboards (I have quite a few on the go) I at least have 3/4 EHX pedals because they're so good!!
I am lucky enough to own a Klon (I brought mine when they were cheap, new & relatively unpopular) & in certain situations because it's really valuable now I needed a substitute that was replaceble,& after trying the incredible J Rocket Archer I took a chance on the EHX Soul Food & I was knocked out that it was so close to the Klon & at a price where I could not refuse but too buy 3 at once (they're consistent too!!) so now I have backups & I don't really take the Klon out of the studio now!!
Let's not forget Big Muff (their is more varieties of them than people & they're all AMAZING!!) the POG & Memory Man & the utterly AMAZING Grand Canyon & everything else in the range.I must have the majority of the catalogue of their products & I like yourself haven't found anything that I don't like!!!
I use other brands too (don't we all?) but EHX produce pretty much everything & the Pitchfork has actually replaced my Digitech Whammy which is notoriously unreliable & in my opinion the Pitchfork & Pog & Mini Pog track better than that big red Digitech Box!!
@@rickyjones7282 thanks for the info!
Only EHX can replicate what is 70's tonality for guitar overdriven sound.. edgy and anger.. very raw .. 👍
boutique pedal? Not yet..
These people are brilliant.
I love that riff at 2m33s
04:38 that guity grin. I feel you.
100usd? This is the best. EHX makes great cheap pedals. I heard a demo of this on bass. Sounds like a Darkglass Omicron, bit cheaper. I doubt anyone can pass a blind test of both. I'm getting this for my 5 string.
The Hot Tubes and Darkglass B3K are both CMOS drive circuits, so I'm sure with the blend and EQ on the Hot Wax, you can get some similar sounds. I actually corresponded with the original engineer who developed the Hot Tubes to see if adding a Blend and Bass Boost would be possible on the original circuit, and he didn't think it would be possible without completely redesigning the circuit. I brought it up in the Product Ideas Forum on the EHX website, and now a year or so later after the Crayon was released... I'm glad that the engineers there had the same idea for the potential of this circuit on bass!
@@skyviewdesign So that's why. Cool. I have a Battalion now, I'm thinking of getting this one too.
Never seen a Blue Strat with a Rosewood neck and Hendrix style CBS headstock. Is that a reissue?
Am I able to achieve the brown sound with this pedal? I'm thinking it could sound like a very nice distortion sound with the stacking
You need to take the blend knob out and put it in a pedal all of its own.
Reminds me of some Baroness tones.
Just want to ask for clarification,if you want to boost the hot tubes then you increase the crayon's volume a little higher than the hot tube's volume level?
These are on sale for $100 on various websites right now including reverb, imma snag one.
Yeah, I just snagged one on Sweetwater, can't wait to get it!!
That’s some vintage tone.
That's dope
tremendo
love those 2112 riffs ;]
ugh NEEEEEEED
As an electronic music producer a blend knob is a must. What would be even better is an independent control for wet and dry :)
eh, too much for guitar pedal
Bastards. Sounds gorgeous!!!!
Pretty killer stuff. Love how thy make great pedals for pretty much any budget
I'm kind of pissed of now, I couldn't decide between the two of these pedals and I settled on hot tubes. then this comes out. damn it.
Sell the hot tubes, buy the hot wax
I like what I'm hearing. Is there going to be a more in depth bass demo for this?
I am sure there will be soon.
you guys do that, while my poor wallet cries....
It seems like for a decent bass tone, the Bass EQ control has to be almost full and the Treble EQ almost completely scooped. Does this mean that the pedal is not particularly versatile when using for Bass? (I'm considering buying this for my bass pedal board as I prefer guitar distortion pedals over bass ones)
I use it on bass and guitar. I love it!. I originally got it for my bass but started to use it more often for my guitar. Either way it's one of my favorites.
Only 100 bucks! Gret job ehx
Can you switch the signal path with the overdrives?
What if i want to stack Crayon > Hot Tubes or Hot Tubes > Crayon.
No The Crayon comes first in the signal path.
.
Superb sound!
I'm however curious of what amp was used in this video?
Fender Super Reverb
It would be cool to specify the amp you used for this demo. (effect 1 with amp 1 don't sound like effect 1 with amp 2)
It's a Fender Super Reverb Silverface Circa '68. I believe that's about the year.
Can we have a built in DI please.
Do bass and treble knobs affect both sides?
Yes.
Please re-release the poster
Can the Hot Tubes be considered as an "amp-in-a-box" type drive?
Between the Crayon and hot tubes yes.
Yeah, "non master volume amp" is code speak for marshall plexi in a box. Cheers.
Can i get the same tone if i combine crayon and hot tubes as 2 pedals?
I think that was the reason for making the Hot Wax. Because people liked to combine those two pedals, so why not built a 2in1 version. So theoretically yes, but you won't have the "blend" function.
I have had mine for 2-3 years and the left (hottubes) side is on 90% of the time. Even with no gain and not even pushing my amp it saturates/warms up my clean tone such that i rarely turn it off:) So i kind of use it the opposite way compared to the guy in this demo. I add the right side when i want a classic heavy rock distortion sound.
I think of the left side as the power tube section and right side as preamp. To me the HotTubes is the real secret sauce here. You can really use any overdrive in front of it and it will sound great.
@@M139NG you use it in the most RIGHT & LOGICAL & PRACTICAL way sir, your comment is spot on on anything hahaha!!!
@@M139NG Can you get a purely clean tone on one side and blend it in? Or is there always a bit of dirt?
Lol with the Luke Bryan riff . Awesome demo
