This was definitely the hardest of the last 4 winter camping vlogs to film! Hope you guys enjoy though and thanks for all the support. I am putting together a Q/A later this month so comment any questions you guys have about my life on the road, photography, filmmaking or just general questions about myself! Will be answering the top 10-15 most asked. I get asked a ton how I find camp spots and I've recently been using DYRT. They are doing 3 months free for their premium features if you use code "drew90". Thanks for all the support! thedyrt.com/pro?tap_a=84498-3...
Fantastic cinematography! I have to ask - what equipment (specially camera, drone, and lens) are you using?
Never mind - I just read the description (duhhh!)
Good to know you’re doing okay
This was DOPE (as always). I’m always so impressed by your dedication to getting a million different interesting angles and I can’t imagine how much extra effort it was in that weather haha. I’d love to know how you spend your days when you’re not filming (maybe a day in the life, if it’s something different to what you show here?). Also I’m sure there’s plenty to keep you occupied but I’m curious whether you ever get lonely/bored being by yourself so much, and also what your thoughts are on campgrounds vs, wild camping (pros and cons, preferences, etc). Excited to set out in my Jeep in April! You’ve given me a ton of build/travel/camping inspo to go off of so thank you heaps for all that you share!
you should have cover for the rear when you cook so snow doesn't get inside the burner. Causes rust etc.
I typically don't watch UA-cam camper videos that are over 30 minutes long, but once I started this one, I did not want to stop because of the scenes, choice of music and the sense of peacefulness solitary living brings with it. I am 73 and this is the kind of life I would like to live for the rest of my life. However, that is not going to happen because of the many commitments and responsibilities I have. But videos like this let me live vicariously through the life others live, and for now, that's about as good as it gets. Drew . . . do this for as long as you can, and enjoy each new adventure. I know there is an income aspect of your life that isn't emphasized in your videos and is a necessity, keep living the good life.
Is Don is good.
Go check out Foresty Forest. He's unreal and has good production value and not long video's.
@Don So You mean He probably did the right thing in in like 2010 - 2013, which we all didn´t ? :D
Well stated! I have 'sacrificed' my entire life and did have a mini window of living my dream, but sacrificing always played out.....I LOVE all these videos!
This is such a sweet and wise comment that reached over 200 people. Thank you for letting us reflect on what's important in life. It's not material things (although they help us and are convenient).
It teaching our children the value of hard work, that the best things in life are free. and that amusement parks and fancy designer bags are the end all be all. But is the quality of life.
Killing me Drew. Everything with ease. No rush no pressure. Good life.
Really glad you enjoyed it Bianca
Know what I like about you? Your quietness. You don’t feel the need to fill your video with useless chatter. I can appreciate the sounds of the crackling fire, or the wind, the stillness, itself. Thank you! Stay safe and well! A land-locked easterner. 🙂
This dude is living out of 20 sq.ft. and still cooks/eats better than I do
He's a good cook, love the veggies & the protein.
NO HES CAMPING, NOT "LIVING OUT A JEEP"
Cooking is not about space and gadgets it’s about having the time to do it and a little skill or a recipe imo.
@PHOTOMAN416 416 no he’s living out a jeep you snowflake
you can't afford bread, eggs, avacado, and some meat??
It’s like watching a movie, the cinematography is phenomenal and on point 🥂
Thanks Anthony! Really appreciate it man

The insulation sagging in is actually what allows it to insulate well. The massive gap of air between the inner and outer layer of the tent provides a very efficient insulating barrier.
MAJOR props for all the effort you put into your shots, like using a tripod in sub zero temperatures when you can't feel your fingers. I know the pain and it was well worth it for this video!
Yup, I lost a fully charged drone in low temps like this. The only thing that made sense to me was frozen precip as it was flying. Just know it sent me some great shots, then started flying lower and lower, video got spotty and bloop… it was gone. It must have done a sweet deep dive into the snow, LOL!
Yeah -10... so cold... you don't know cold.
@@youtubemodsaresnowflakelef7692 who the fuck cares what YOU think “cold” is… when youre talking about people that live in hot ass states like me in florida then yeah.. -10 degrees is fucking freezing.

Your channel is so underrated/undersubbed. I can't give you enough respect for how you execute your craft!
Thanks Brian. Really appreciate hearing that man!
U r absolutely right. His craft is on different level.
It’s seriously one of the best channels out there. Great personality and absolutely amazing and stunning videography. I recommend him to everyone. Should have WAY more followers.
Drew Simms how many miles are on your jeep?
Absolutely
Drew calling his Hollywood grade short film a “vlog” is the humblest thing I’ve ever seen
This dude is living the dream. There are countless Van life adventure videos out there, but there are a very selected few who manage to capture the peace and the serenity of nature. While showing the real reason people want to live the van life atleast once in their lifetime.
Yea I agree. I bought a 79 dodge brougham camper for me and my brother to love in. Its slightly bigger than a van , but not by much. Me and my brother are getting it fixed up so we can go up north and see the country. We always lives in the woods and places like this look amazing
Finally an overlanding video where someone did more activity than just driving and camping. The snowshoeing was great. Excellent content.
We are an Austrian family and we really enjoy you vlogs, looking them together in the living room! Thank you Drew! We like the really great shots of nature, your relaxed style, the cooking parts and your comments and since we also love snow we really appreaciate your videos. Keep on doing.
Thanks Byron! Really love to hear you all enjoy the videos!
I am going through tough times medically and it had my spirits down. Watching this video reminded me that to push through, means to someday experience such things as shown masterfully within this vlog. It was my introduction to your channel, and I hope the same for many others - this video SERIOUSLY sets the pace for other wilderness and camper life vloggers, let alone the pace for anybody who thinks they "do it right" hahaha. Much love man, thank you for calming the nerves and motivating however odd that may seem, and I am for damn sure a lifelong sub. You deserve about a billion more.
I hope you are well, and that those times are now behind you.
@@elib7311 Thank you, Eli. Things are looking up. Amazing what willpower and a bit of motivation can see us through. I wish the same prosperity and happiness for you
Dude! I really admire your willingness to go through so much hassle and struggle to show the world what you go though to be able to expose to us how amazingly beautiful and complicated nature can be. You are asserted, objective and down to earth on every step of the way! You have an amazing future ahead of you, I just hope you keep doing what you do the same way; objective, simple and down to earth! If you loose those amazing qualities: you are doomed to fail. But you know you won’t, I know you are not aware of how amazingly wonderful you are! You have a beautiful soul and that is key in your life success!!)
I've never been happier to find a channel on UA-cam like this one. Drew, you are an inspiration. I can't imagine the effort that you put into making a video like this. Thanks for creating and sharing this. God bless!
Drew. You're the man. Seriously dude. Your style of editing, cinematography, and overall personality/presence is so kind and calming. Most of us don't have an attention span longer than 1 minute but somehow I'm able to focus on your entire video for the full 48 minutes, no distractions, just fully immersed in the content on the screen. I've said it once, I'll say it again, thanks for sharing this adventure and taking us along to these places. You teach me a bunch (setting up camp, equipment, cooking, dishwashing lol) and truly inspire me to pursue this once I am able. Stay safe brother and keep living the dream.
Really can't tell you how much I appreciate hearing this man. Just to hear that my work has any kind of affect on people really means alot to me so thank you for taking the time not only to watch, but to reach out with the kind words! Cheers man
insulation tight up against the tent would be less R value due to you not having an Air buffer that helps insulate. I think having it sag is in convenient but better for warmth.
Yes, it needs the air-gap!!
Is that true for insulating vans too?
Having a small air gap is always beneficial regardless the thing your insulating.
It blows my mind how you're not sponsored by Jeep yet. Incredible content!
That would be nice haha. Thanks Ali!

I lived in Idaho till I was nine. I miss Idaho for the beautiful wilderness and animals. The winters there are amazing I miss going up to Henry's lake early in the morning and watching all the snow fall and the sun rise through the snow covered trees. This video brings back memories. Thanks for the video!!!
The effort you put in every single video is amazing. Beyond that, the real purpose of living life like you do is stunning. We only live once and you are doing it in the best way possible. Greetings from Perú 🇵🇪
I can watch these kinds of videos for hours. Thank you for showing us how beautiful this world actually is
As long as there isn't other humans present, haha.
Wow, you're such a talented videographer! I really appreciate how you separate experiencing/showing us around and explaining things, and don't find a need to narrate as you do them- it makes all the quiet shots so much more poignant and peaceful. You're probably the first adventurer I follow who doesn't add in loud punchy music all the time to make things feel exciting.... the views already are beautiful enough which is already exciting!
I added a thumbs up to Jenny's comment, but I wish I could actually give it about 25 thumbs up. The video quality is astounding, your choice to use silence rather than zippy music is fantastic, and I am a new sub based on this. Thank you very much for producing such an amazing content! Oh, and the footage starting at 44:45. Wow!!!
My 18 year old son and i have been binge watching your adventures and loving every minute!
i just appreciate the fact that he leaves the cam back so many times, imagine doing something than just go back and get the cam🤣, hes kinda doin it twice thx dude
It can be a hassle but it's fun to set up the shots and try unique angles of the experience!
@@drewsimmscan you set up shots with a drone, hovering in a stationary position, and then you just have the drone come back to you?

The way you manage to capture the beauty of nature is amazing. It's like watching a movie.
I’m watching this in awe because of all the angles and shots you got to tell your story. I appreciate every single one man. Inspiring really.
this god damn guy cooks and eats better than I do and he's in the middle of nowhere outside in the back of a Jeep and I'm standing in my kitchen after I just spent 200bucks at the grocery store fml
Haha these meals always taste better when you are camping, especially when its cold out!
This was exactly what I was thinking too! I’m over here taking notes at the simplicity of the recipes! Love the art of savoring the flavors in the great outdoors!
@@user-cm3uo6lu6o Knowing how to cook is definitely NOT an intuitive thing. I had to marry someone who had loads of practice before I started not being horrible at it. With camping, salt, pepper, and a few all purpose seasoning packs, like what you can buy online from Penzy's, goes a LONG way. Lol.
@@rabidhellhound9714 thanks for the info. I just bought the 16 spice pack. First I've heard of Penzys.
Dude. You summed up my thoughts completely. Even the $200 of groceries and still nothing but junk to eat lol
Hey Drew, I'm from a place in India where is mostly summers I have never seen snow. For someone like me winter camping has always been a dream I'm glad your vlog keeps that dream alive
Glad to hear I could help Manish!
This amazes me. I am 79 and in no condition to do this kind of camping, to say nothing of a "dig out" to extract my Jeep from being stuck off the road.
The tent on top appears to be a great way of avoiding camping on the ground in the cold and the snow.
He is clearly experienced and well-prepared for his wintry adventure. Happy camping, traveler.
I've always loved the cooking aspect of camping. Food tastes way better outdoors.
And made with real fire! Mmmmm
The shots that the start of all your videos honestly turn me on
Stanley ID is awesome, you should see the summer time. You can hike 50 miles or so along the top of most of the sawtooths that you see in the beginning.

I just found this. Best set up I’ve seen. Your cooking, organization, filming... very comforting. Thanks
Making my state look absolutely breathtaking!
Idaho is one of my favorite spots I've been to over the last 2 1/2 years
I can’t wait to live like this. I cry thinking about it.
Tip: save a bit of the pasta water to put into the sauce- makes it extra delicious!
Mhmm gonna have to try that next time!
Boil the pasta in broth til its all absorbed, makes it sooo creamy & delicious. Don’t boil in water & drain.
This is a cooking tip that you’ll be glad you know, try it & you’ll see👍 (if you don’t have broth just use water til its covered).
I don’t know what’s more impressive. The sites or the mans ability to cook. You make me so hungry
I honestly started watching these videos through boredom and being nosey how the cars/ vans look inside, instead I have found some brilliant filming, photography and documentaries into peoples lives, the vans now a second reason. Thanks, love the video
Honestly! If you like this check out Overlanding videos. That’s pretty much what this is this guy focuses on more of the scene and filming, whereas they usually focus on the gear and the off the grid trip. TrailRecon is one of my favorite channels a good combination of both!
Everything in your vlog (quality, shots, editing, many more) is on different level. Man Your content is do satisfying I can't even tell in words, its like one of the best i have ever seen.

Great content! Just a quick suggestion....if you were to take a snowball right after your meal was cooked (particularly for pans while they're still warm) and use it to clean your dishes I think it would go very quickly as it's slightly abrasive but would melt on contact-I find it very effective and I don't have to worry about dishes piling up. Might want to try! Be well!

Anyway, I was just dropping by to say that you consistently have some of the most beautiful and cinematic videography! And i love the more simple sequences as well - especially the cooking. Also, so bummed to hear that your car was broken into - I can’t imagine how rough that was to lose so much of your work. Keep your chin up and Please keep it up Drew, your work is so enjoyable!!
Beautiful drone footage. Wonderful winter snow land.

Production quality is wonderful, truly you deserve more support, keep it up drew
something ive learned from car dwelling, with dishes-
you can always get dirt, and clean the oily frying pans and dishes with that. Then rinse with water, it will save a bunch of time. you might be thinking dirt is nasty, it actually isnt, considering dish detergent is residual if it isnt rinsed properly and will make its way into your next meal. the soil out there is more than likely clean and uncontaminated also, cleaner than any storebought product used to clean dishes in my opinion.
Amazing drone shots! Wow.
Thank you!

Cooking tip: put your garlic in when it’s almost done. Garlic burns easy and turns bitter. You’ll get much better flavor if you finish with it. But dinner looked great, nice job!
My family and I moved to Boise, Idaho, in 1991. Left Georgia and went west! I was in 9th grade. That first fall, my dad (who's originally from Montana) took us to Stanley where we camped. It was SO cold! But I've never seen anything so beautiful and magnificent. Loved this video man! Took me back to a very special place!
I have weird financial questions, like where does most of your income come from, how much do you make? how much did you have saved before you went on the roadfull time? ,Where do you store your seasonal gear you don't need? How much gear is free becuase of promotions. Are you able to save money while doing what you do since you don't pay rent? I think you should make your own simple jeeping cookbook. I know weird questions, but I am a numbers financial person. I want to see the profit and loss statment of this type of life... :)
I will try and answer some of this in the upcoming Q/A
Methodical and very organized ! You have a place for everything. Awesome video!!
