The best game...I can't forget this game
this game was the best looking mmo for YEARS. The combat was only eclipsed recently with Conan Exiles. I just wish the game had been as AWESOME as the beginning. Had they done that, they would have taken a serious bite out of WoW and EQ.

Easily the most compelling soundtrack
I remember playing this game extensively when it came out, I even bought it at Gamestop back in the day. Some of the best PvP moments I had were at level 25 on Whitesands as a Priest of Mitra. In those days, the Barbarian class was super strong at that level haha. I remember roaming up and down the beaches with friends, looking for other level 25 pvpers to battle with. I remember having all out guild wars out there, was soooo much fun! Godrays (sun shafts through threes, etc) were a new technology with DX12 I believe and the game was taking advantage of them. My poor little 2006 rig could barely run the game on low settings, but man I had a blast!
Shivers down my spine and goosebumps! Most 'vivid' soundtrack of any game! Utterly transports me to Tortage, Poitain, Aquilonia, etc.
Can you guys believe Robert E. Howard wrote all this material (which would go on to inspired for almost a century) in his 20s? What an imagination!
I can remember my very first steps in Tortage listening to the music ! What an incredible moment !

Amazing, there are few words to describe this incredible music, especially when you listen to it many years after you played the game. You barely pay attention to it while playing. You have to listen to it much later and let your mind conjure up those all-gone images. My sister and I played the game when she was 12 then she got married and forgot all about it. I played the Conan music at the baby shower of her first kid and she went bananas.
This is such a great soundtrack! I use it for hiking or other exercise, makes you feel like you're on an epic adventure instead of just sweating it up in your living room.

So sad for this game....could have been the best mmo.
It truly could have been the most amazing MMO out there, but they promised too much of things to come.
true, though... we didn't make it. i think that at this point i can say it. i was working on it for a while, and i must confess that the studio's team structure was not the best to handle it. there were severe internal communication issues, bad management decisions, lots of top-down issues. when the revenue numbers turned out to be lower than expected, well, the same management team blew it by pulling devs out of aoc without telling the community.
This game had the potential to be a 10/10, but the developers cracked under various pressures and it ended up being a 6/10.
@@misterbeach8826 I remember how my guild has disbanded because of unfixed bugs for deeeeecades... Especially at the most crucial parts of the game such as 1st boss at wing 2 (posion boss). Last boss. And other many promised fixes that didn't come for so long. That long that, community just disbanded exponentially every day. I can honestly say that, in my entire life, death of AOC is one of the hardest thing i have to handle. I still can't believe this MMO died. I really can't. From atmosphere to fight mechanics, community to ambiance it was just a masterpiece that thrown away with the back of hand by Funcom. Just sad!
I played late to the game when only fury serveur was almost used. My best mmo expérience so far what a game what a pleasant feeling

The Musical scores to this game still are unmatched to this day in 2019 - as a person almost at the age of 40, this was one of my favorite games to date solely on the purpose of the music alone. Gameplay was about a 4/5, but this game had room to grow. Sad to see funcom drop the ball on what would of been a very good game!

There is not many games where the composers got it just right and gave the game a fantastic atmosphere , but the music by Jeremy Soule for Guild Wars Prophecies and this by Knut Avenstroup Haugen, they really nailed it.
Recently picked it up again, it's amazing how many people still play it! Even Tortage was still pretty populated!

I tried listening to this while playing ESO. It's 2021 and the only decent MMO out there.

Almost a year has passed since i made the original comment... I quit ESO about 4 months ago... it's also shit. Age of Conan was the best thing to happen to MMO's. And now it's owned by the Chinese so they can dissect it. What a fucking shame.

i stopped playing eso several months ago too.. turns out it's just as shit as all the other mmo's out there.
This soundtrack was so damn amazing. Loved how it would switch from these gnarly super intense songs to wistful, dreamlike songs, to chill desert songs. I used to listen to the last song all the time, good memories.
I must admit, I never played this game, but I can say that it has one of the best soundtracks i've ever heard in a video game.
I wish someone in the video game industry could make a single player / co-op Conan rpg like the new God of War mixed with Witcher 3, based on the Robert E. Howard books and the Dark Horse comics, not to mention with a Frank Frazetta art style.
Guess this is to much to hope for, but i guess i will keep on dreaming.

Never played the game, but I have to say this is the best video game soundtrack I ever heard.
Try it - it's free! Not only the soundtrack is very unique (same goes for the expansion/DLC ones) but so is the melee combo combat. And if you like Lovecraft stuff you will enjoy the whole storyline, world and monsters/demons/gods :)
This was such a great game. I still remember playing on a RPPvP Server where one guy would attack anyone on sight as a demo trying to win. He rarely did, but he became a legend doing it. One day he spammed some type of charm move on a rival that was afk, draggin him nearly half way across the server. When the rival came back to his computer he saw a message left with perfect grammar and spelling. It was the first time the demo spoke in literal years and everyone lost their shit over his perfect grammar lol.
I play this in the background while running a game of Kingdom Death: Monster. Love it.

Never played the game. Which is a shame as I'm a gamer and a fan of Robert E. Howard's stories, of the old Conan film, and of Basil Poledouris' great soundtrack. This OST here is truly amazing, fit for Conan and his age.
As good as the soundtrack is. I always felt the game was just okay. It captured the feel of Conan but the gameplay wasn't particularly good. Still I have fond memories of playing it for a few months.

Such reckognizable scores were as rare back then as they are now.
HZD, dark souls 3, bloodborne, sekiro, witcher3, divinity OS1/2, escape from tarkov, just some 2015+ ones off the top of my head. Plenty of games with top tier powerful soundtracks around.
@@Eatmykum I agree! I should've told my quote a bit more accurate. I think nowadays there are still great scores for games, but in most cases its just a menu, title track and then the rest is more ambient and more in the background. For example assassins creed Odyssey, the game has a great menu theme but then while being in ingame its mostly just some ambient backing music. It is not as present as it was back in the day.
Age of Conan for example has a theme for every area plus it changes when being in battle, Thats the thing my quote was relating to.
I agree Dark Souls, Sekiro and games you were talkn about do have awesome music but most examples are not the typical mainstream games
The soundtrack in Conan is never over tip and I just love it. As a player who is still play quite regularly in July of 2020 the game has to be in the top with my favourite mmorp games! can never get old. Especially when I started at a young age of 7 and have been playing for about 6 years now. Age of Conan unchained with forever Stan not just an amazing mmorpg but for it's amazing music.

Love this game when I played with a regular group. We'd ramp up the difficulties on the zones to make the "world" feel like what would have been a raid in any other game. Such a great idea.

haha yeah i would have stayed even after it went f2p if they didnt block my access to xpack zones that i already paid for.
Funcom had the genius idea to split their development team into 3 smaller teams and work on 3 products at the same time. Anyone could've predicted the disaster that was coming, and once you left Tortage (one of the best starting zones in any MMO) the shortcomings became obvious really quickly. It was a huge but empty world. Really a shame for all the wasted potential this game had.
Indeed, I will be forever sour about it. I spent so much of my time in that game and they literally fucked it over and over.

My favourite track believe it or not isn't "Ere the World Crumbles" it's "The Arrival : Cimmerian Welcome" fecking love that track! Eiglophian Mountains is bloody epic as well! The Egyptian, middle eastern feel of the tracks for Stygia got me going as well, the greek and roman feel for Aquilonia didn't do it for me sounds wise, but everything else was spot on! "Sunrise in Khopsef" is another favourite!

I think that Conan will never die, so, we can be sure that something new will come. But as I said, I am always in worry because of the qualitiy. Did you see the Conan series? It's pure trash, even to much for me.
I also heard rumors about a new conan series, produced by amazon.

Para mi junto con el Star Wars Galaxies uno de los mejores MMo's que he jugado. Lastima que el Age of Conan salió incompleto en su lanzamiento y no llegó a ser que lo que Funcom prometia que seria desde un principio. Eso si la banda sonora del juego la mejor en un MMO

The game was a masterpiece. The scenery, the music, the game play which required a little bit more skill than just pressing random buttons. It just happened to have a particularly bad launch with bugs which gave it a bad press but these should had been excused. For some reason people opted for other games of the genre which lacked the depth and beauty of this.

I know the game wasn't a mega-hit and had a pretty short life span, but I really had a ton of fun with it when it was new and the music has stayed with me since.
I just hopped back in , and I'm enjoying like I never stopped. Really love the game, and don't mind investing part of my life's breath spending time grinding again. Started a few new classes. Love the tortage music so much. Nothing had come even close to this masterpiece OST except Witcher 3 and Skyrim by Jeremy Soule.
