Age of Mythology OST -- The Complete Recordings

- Relive the days of mythological antiquity with the entire Age of Mythology soundtrack!
Game: Age of Mythology (2002)
Composer(s): Stephen Rippy, Kevin Mcmullan
Being the first game in the "Age of Empires" series to feature a fully recorded soundtrack using a live symphony orchestra, Age of Mythology also stayed unique by also featuring a flexible, dynamic soundtrack, that changed depending on the flow and pace of a match. While dynamic soundtracks were not unheard of at this time, Age of Mythology was one of the earlier video games to experiment with the feature, which unfortunately did not return for its future titles "Age of Empires III", or "Halo: Wars".

Hey, everyone! Thanks for 100k views on this bad boy. AoM really is a game unlike any other! If you follow me, you'd know I'm a game developer myself! Consider checking out my upcoming game demo for "Odyssey of Dremid'ir"! It has A LOT of roots in Age of Mythology!

The best game in the world, with relaxing music.
I like this Game too.
Love this game, and I love your channel meta
@@cheesypies5166 Thank you.But i don,t play this Game not more on my Channel.

It's not the best in the world, you're exaggerating. It's only a really good game.

learned how to read playing this and AOE2, such an important part of my childhood. Thanks for the out loud burst of laughter from reading (in their voices mind you) the lines you guys wrote above 🤣🤣
Just remember - Maybe they did not make any soundtrack for the "Golden Gift" or "The Tale of The Dragon"... But they made a soundtrack for EACH cutscene in "Fall of The Trident" and "The New Atlantis". EACH, SEPARATE, SOUNDTRACK for EVERY CUTSCENE! And sometimes there are 2 cutscenes in a single mission!
The Campaign music was underrated
The best soundtrack in any game ever made, and I mean it, it's not annoying, it's very plain, but it's not boring, and it really sets the mood when you're running around the campaign, or even when you're playing skirmishes.
wow the artists did their job, thats so cool
@@ing_frantisek_mohykan Most of the RTS's I've played do not have music made for specific cutscenes.
@@ing_frantisek_mohykan Yeah but they did it exceptionally well, making a soundtrack that wasn't just "good enough" but one that evokes powerful nostalgia from fans because of how fitting and perfect it was, which is commendable in its own right. It's also great that the people paying them authorized music for each cutscene so we could enjoy it that much more, instead of trying to cut costs & reuse other music.
TL;DR: Yes they were paid to do it, I just hope they were given a raise :)
Golden Gift wasn't an official campaign but a custom one for the older game. And The Tale of the Dragon was made by a totally different dev team.
I hear this when I'm doing gardening and field work and I feel like a villager from the game.

the soundtrack of childhood
It made ideal background for the game. Ah, childhood memories. When all my classmates had fun and talked about Warcraft 3, I silently loved and played AoM. Thank you, creators of that wonderful game.
Games like Age of Mythology and WarCraft III were such important parts of my childhood. I still play them both, moreso WC3, and the music is still nostalgic despite the fact that I risk wearing it out by playing them and losing the special childhood exclusivity, if that makes sense.
Dude 😆 literally same story here. AOM > AOE/Warcraft
At least they were playing great RTS games, instead of action games which dominate today.
43:49 This brings back memories of me attacking Town centers with an army of 30 Son of Osiris' that I've made through Pandora's box + Divine intervention.
I would boom farms and markets with Egyptian, build a bunch of barracks, and just send a bunch spearmen everywhere.
The sounds of 30 Canadian bears attacking all at once is something else too.
@@Aflay1 I loved having a sustainable economy, so farms, markets, and renewable resources in mass amounts + any unit that costs those resources. Minotaurs/Cyclops with food/favor cost, too, I remember having a lot of those.

...but who let the intern pick the names like, wtf
All of the "Age of" games have soundtrack listings like this. I appreciate the sense of humour that Stephen Rippy/Kevin Mcmullan had when creating these tracks, personally.
I heard that apparently these are in jokes amongst the creative team, like anecdotes where they make jokes and their own phrases.
@@legendsofmiddle-earthmod1107 yep, like I noticed 3 tracks near the end of the Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition soundtrack (Vol. 1) are just the same phrase's letters switched around😆.
There's nothing wrong with A Matt Named Kittens every now and then.

Great work with all the time stamps
I'm in desperate need of finding more music that sounds like eat your potatoes
The soundtrack of the game 0 A.D., which also takes place in the ancient world, has a similar mystical astmosphere.
@@Martin_Roos thanks! I'm going to check it out. And maybe give 0 A.D another try ;)
Fighting old battles again?
I’m not crying, it’s just rainy inside.

One of the best soundtracks from my childhood. Now i put it before going to sleep, so relaxing
playing Rome II Total War with no music and using this as background sound. Siddenly a chimera and a cyclop pop up in midst of battle
sounds like u have a rich imagination. have fun brother
Meu deus como eu amo essa trilha sonora. Um salve do Brasil!

Thank you in particular for the second half of this video. So much nostalgia. Can't wait for AoM Retold! I hope they do the campaigns justice, they were so so so SO good.
Just finished playing through all of the Age of Mythology Campaigns on Titan difficulty, they do not disappoint! Highly recommended! Currently 75% off on Steam!
@@realpeterm2986 I highly recommend just a full Titan playthrough. Challenging and fun. (And sometimes frustrating xD)
@@SirQuantization I mean, I don't recommend buying anything that has SkyBoxLabs written over it. Now if I had an old computer with Windows XP on it and the discs I'd go play the AOM and AOM:TT campaigns for fun on Titan difficulty. I mean I wish I could play it on my Win 7 device but there's too many security updates in the past that made it so that all the old games that had Games for Windows Live can't be played any longer.
@@SirQuantization do you prefer them over the original vanilla campaign?
I pray to all Gods that they don't try to monetize it in any way and just make faithful and modern version of this game.

That's an incredible quality !
I've missed you, old timer. I'm glad you're back
Thanks for the upload. It was such a good time. Remembering all the music from back then. I have the feeling games back then where better in terms of chillness. Now it has to engage you every freakin' second, flash-flash-blink.
AOM was chill, and yet super engaging. Thus for me it was.
It warms my heart seeing the names of these songs again.
It reminds me how often I went into the game files to mod the game. It also reminds me, yeah, the devs actually gave these timeless soundtracks some really really weird names.

When Retold OST 🤨
I would rather delete my account than post that filth.
@@legendsofmiddle-earthmod1107 why the hate? genuinely asking
@@Lexemoz Not impressed with what I heard of its remixes thus far, especially the trailer remix.
As a whole, I'm not terribly impressed with anything Retold has to show off thus far. And given MS' track record for how little they respect AoM, I don't feel like I need to give them any benefit of the doubt that'll be worth much.
Inwej, Ier Ifier
I'm calling it. They're going to ruin the composition of this in the Retold edition just like they did with AoE2 DE's, re-arranging notes unnecessarily. You're all going to be listening missing notes from this, or notes that aren't accurate.
Yup. You hit the nail on the head, my friend. All the homies hate DE versions of Ensemble games.
@@legendsofmiddle-earthmod1107The games are spectacular. I only meant the soundtrack. It's their biggest misstep. The rest is an upgrade outside of the lack of skeletons when units die.
@@damsen978 Eh, to each their own. I will only ever be a contender for the originals, unless the original devs performed the remake (which they didn't). The OST are always lacking, regardless though.
@@legendsofmiddle-earthmod1107To each their own indeed.
@@legendsofmiddle-earthmod1107 Technically they did because for AoE 1 and 2 DE, Matt Pritchard, who already worked for Ensemble, joined Forgotten. And so far, FE was very careful with Ensemble's work.
The nostalgia..... I miss playing this game and messing around in the editor part lol. I still have my boxed set, which came w/ both this game and Titans Expansion. There also was obviously the Minotaur figurine, soundtrack CD, and the other goodies. This was one of the 1st PC games I played, as we had also just started using our then-brand-new Dell computer and PC tower.🥲
A true classic. It's time to return, my child.
THERE WAS A MINOTAUR FIGURINE??!?!
@@sologemeni The limited Special Edition of the game came packaged with the Official OST, a book favoured by the devs on antiquity era mythology, a movie themed poster, "Making of" documentary, in-game techtree posters, and a small Minotaur figurine; and of course -- the game itself.
@@legendsofmiddle-earthmod1107 just Googled the minotaur. looks bad but damn! what a blast from the past. a treasure of nostalgia
