The Holy Spirit *IS* the Spirit of God (Gen 1:2) and not a 3rd person Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by *the Spirit OF God* they are the sons of God (or do we have multiple Holy Spirits?)
Hey Pastor, I was really hoping you could go over Judges 19-21. I'm a recent convert to the LCMS from atheism. Been with the church for 2 years now. I read Judges 19-21 and I was very disturbed by it. I really hope you can help me understand how God is not endorsing the actions of the Benjamites at the end where they steal women and kill the men to continue their tribe. Thank you so much and God bless.
The text does not say that the Lord approved of what the tribes did. But it is an accurate history. It does not cover over sin. It reports what happened. But consider the closing verse: "In those days there was no king in Israel: A man did what was right in his own eyes."
@@mwdiers hey Martin I appreciate the reply. I know that verse as well. I guess I just don't understand why God would step in to deliver the Benjamites into the hands of the Israelites but not step into say "the vow you guys made before about not giving women to the Benjamites to marry wasn't a holy vow and that was not my intention at all." Doing that could've saved the virgins Jabesh Gilead who were Jewish or at the very least could've made God's solidarity with those Virgins more clear. I suppose God not being King of Israel as described in the last verse in those days, would've meant that he'd allow the Israelites to sin like he did with the Philistines and Canaanites. But if that's the case, why intervene earlier to deliver the Benjamites into the hands of the Israelites? That's what I struggle with and at least upon my novice reading makes it seem as though he's endorsing the Israelites fulfilling their vow and having the Benjamites take the Virgins. Really appreciate the comment, God bless.
Thank you for Law&Gospel!
"The Spirit loves you..." really powerful that!
Amen

Thank you from Michigan
Thank you. I confess my deep ignorance in not knowing the Old Testamental antecedent to the Day of Pentecost. This is a most beautiful sermon.
Thank you for this sermon that is so rich in the teaching of the Holy Spirit. My heart rejoices!
