I *love* the voice acting in this game. He talks the _exact_ way you'd expect a normal human person to talk, especially a President. Most voice actors talk too smoothly, read their lines too dryly, read, but don't _act._ The way he trips up is so realistic.
A shame he turned out to be a kiddie fiddler

The voice acting is really so incredible here. I'm especially impressed by the beginning when he realizes you're not an Enclave soldier (but you're wearing power armor) and realizes you could be a threat. It's so interesting because the whole game the Enclave is presented as this huge, evil, impersonal army that can dominate the wasteland without a challenge. Then you meet the head of it all, and it's some normal dude who physically fears you. It's such a cool contrast and moment, it really makes the situation feel real and not scripted.
And then it's all the better by him growing in confidence by describing his plan, and by the end he isn't afraid of you murdering him anymore. It's a wonderful interaction.
But it makes sense he fears you. He's just a dude by himself and you're in there with power armor and weapons that could kill him near instantly, and none of the soldiers there could get there fast enough to save him if you decided to shoot.
"Social experiment" the vault crimes were just pranks apparently.
...Like Vault 12's door being designed not to close properly, Vault 15 having a bunch of multi-cultural people around and thus eventually giving us the Khans, Jackals, and Vipers, Shady Sands and Aradesh's people being the only kind ones, then we have the Boomers from Vault 34... and Vault 8 that came with its inhabitants being relatively arrogant and hypocritical pieces of crap until some quests have been done for the town.

I feel like Autumn is the only Enclave character who *doesn't* want to genocide the Wasteland.

Yeah it feels like more could've been done with the Enclave in Fallout 3. Have President Eden be the genocidal one whereas you can convince and side with Autumn to do something like kill only the super mutants and distribute the water to gain the loyalty of the wastelanders
Even in fallout 76 the colonel promoted to general hated that the "president" was trying to spread mutants and Chinese bots to trick the DEFCON system into allowing him to launch nukes.
Even though she also wanted to nuke China back again. Just felt it was imorale
@@Spongebrain97that was the original plan apparently with what the concept art book said and a couple from devs as well. The original fallout three was apparently going to be very different from what eventually came out. You exiting the vault was going to be different, the wasteland was going to be more hostile and the enclave in particular were going to be more of a grey faction than full blown out enemy. Autum was different to from the concept art he appeared to only be in his twenties not in his fifties which is what the game implies and Eden didn’t even exist in the concept art as it was apparently going to be original a digital clone of Richardson. Fallout 3 sucks the most for me because of how much apparently it was in development hell for 4 fours with them mostly scrapping the original plans.

Surprisingly President Richardson is actually one of the Enclave more open minded members. He refers to the Arroyo villagers as Near Humans, (where as most members of the Enclave would refer to them as mutants). An he does express some mild regret over the Enclave genocidal plans. Viewing them as a unfortunate necessity.
He became even more open minded after I "tested" my Minigun on him.

@@devonesq.7533 Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 both have problems with convincing people being too easy or not making sense, but give New Vegas credit. You can only convince people by having the related skill (often speech) be above a certain threshold, and you're usually convincing them by saying the one thing that would actually persuade them.
For example, Legate Lanius will not retreat from Hoover Dam just because you _got lucky with a few $20 speech checks._ No, he'll only retreat if you have a long, steadily increasing in difficulty conversation with him where you ultimately convince him that taking over the Hoover Dam will kill Caesar's Legion, and turn it into a second NCR - except, the NCR was designed to handle it. The Legion is designed to harvest and nothing else.
Like 1 and 2, your character needs to know what they're talking about, and occasionally, you'll need to actually have proof, like when convincing Chief Hanlon to stop doing misdirection over the radio, you'll need to be informed of Caesar's sickness or death in order to completely convince him to stop entirely.
@@Resi1ience those are two very good examples and i agree with you, however i do think its quite weird you can convince a man whose spent his entire adult life in servitude to caesar. who is also an actual warlord, to see reason instead of blood, but i do like that you actually have to fullfil prerequisites to use these speech checks, whereas you can just dump every point into speech and make the game a million times easier in fo4
@@devonesq.7533 Lanius wasn't a Legionaire for a long time. He is actually a recent recruit compared to rest of the Legion. He fought against the Legion for a long time with great success before his tribe betrayed him. Ceasar was impressed by him and wanted him in his team. Ceasar gave him his tribe because he wanted revenge. In exchange he joined to Legion.

There are great patches out there that help a lot - high resolution, quality of life improvments for controls, etc... Give it a shot!

It would be better to have the two games' engine reverse-engineered and then recompiled to make it more up-to-date with today's computer specs and hardware. But yes… unofficial patches, for one. (Falltergeist aims to do those things!)

I had just turned 13 years old when this game came out, but wouldn't get it till a few months later after its release in October of '98. In the Feb. of 1999 I got this game for myself on my birthday and this dialogue, along with the entirety of the game's experience, have been one of the most prolific and extraordinary things, not just in gaming, but my entire life. Fallout 1, and especially 2, are the only games I can actually go back and feel like they did the very first time I ever played them.
And even as "dated" as this game is, it honestly aged pretty well. Everything about this game is a masterpiece.
They really don't make games like this anymore...
Tear is coming to my eye... I got it little later, just turned 13 in May 2000 and got it as a bonus with gaming magazine called Level. It changed me in so many ways, just look at me now 22 years later - playing and recording it, running a Fallout radio... I am just glad there is more people like us:)
For me, it's a coin flip for what is the best roleplaying game of all time: Fallout 2 or Baldur's Gate 2.
I sometimes can't believe how much time the actors in fallout games put time and effort into video games, where today people today in video games barely put very much put on a performance that makes you feel like you are part of the act and decision of the games. Also i think this game was released in the year when i was born.
What on earth are you talking about? Voice acting has never been better, than it is right now.
The only difference is the quality of writing, which has dropped significantly over the last couple of years.

@@thecuchikiller same thing happened in reverse in fallout 1, I had the brotherhood send some knights to help me at mariposa, but they would only go as far as the entrance, and I had already killed the siper mutants there, iirc, it's a version difference
@@tivvy2vs21 I reciently beat the game again, yes, for some reason that happend in the Mariposa Base, but not in the Cathedral where the BOS paladins follow you.

theres no harm in doing so, he and the rest of the enclave believe they've already won, not really processing that you're gonna nuke the entire rig within the short timespan you are there, the moment they dump the FEV into the air you will die, might as well just give some answers and be respectful instead of letting the chosen one fill him with lead

The failures of FO 1&2 are mainly that you cannot join The Master or Enclave and see the game to the end. So many RPGs fail at this, I could be able to join any side in a true RPG and see it to the end without it being a quick and fast ending
You can join the Master, it just doesn't go very far, basically a cutscene plays where you are dipped in the FEV vats and then vault 13 gets raided by the mutants with some casualties and then game over, back to the menu.
Why would the enclave let you join them tho. Dont they view others as non humans

Joining the master and seeing it to the end, apart from the quick cutscene, would not be very interesting at all. It would literally just be you massacring/kidnapping the vault dwellers, and then what?
What else is there to say except that the Master's plan was doomed to fail, either because the Enclave would have stopped him eventually or because of the sterilization issue (which he himself surely would have realized _eventually_ anyway). There's not much to write about there. The eventual outcome is unimportant beyond what was already shown in the game.
And, frankly, joining the Enclave wouldn't make sense. They don't take outsiders, let alone a mutie.

The original creators have made it clear at this point that he was not lying (Tim Cain specifically has said so). Bethesda and the TV show writers just decided to retcon it.
Notice how everything else here he said was truthful and he did not mince words, including the part about the vault experiments. Why lie about who launched first? If he wanted to sugarcoat it, he could have said "backed into a corner, we were forced to drop the bombs" or something, or kept it vague. Bethesda and the TV show writers would rather just ignore it since it's inconvenient and make slop for people to eat up happily.

I'm 100% sure that the only reason why they make Vault-Tec the big bad, besides pushing for the "capitalism evil" message, is because Amazon wouldn't dare to even imply China is bad, or even remotely doing anything wrong, thats why they didn't even mention China by name, they just said "the Reds", and made people think its the Soviets
the devs really put their own political biases in this game, just one aspect about 2 that shouldn't have gone through
It's a political satire small time game, the devs opinions in the 90s add charm to it. Also Richardson literally wants to kill millions of people because they don't share genetics with his in group, killing him is the logical choice of anyone who understands either common morality or the genetics of inbreeding.
I don't see 2 as being overly political. It's more overt than 1, but it's the same statement against nationalistic fervor and ideology.
The Master believes his new mutant race created by dipping unradiated humans to be superior to humanity, forcing a total wipeout, and the Enclave believes the "original, untainted" humans to be superior to those living in the wasteland.
In either case, their fervor blinds them to facts of the matter that complicate their vision for humanity. The mutants are sterile and can't reproduce. Also, the idea that mutants will coexist peacefully by magic, unlike humans, is obviously wrong.
Meanwhile, the Enclave assumes the same of unmutated humans. Mutated humans are obviously not the problem; unmutated humans caused the war, and they would only cause it again.
This character reminds me Putin. The same long fairy tales about so called history facts. And the same crazy ideas about a revenge.
I'm guessing everything reminds you of Putin right now because you're such a deep thinker and not at all influenced by the drum beats of the media
