Another beautiful beautiful Ranachulus
I love your sweater. And the tea cozy is going to be cute! Like the striped one also. Go with your gut feeling when it comes to your mom.
Wonderful episode, Selma ❤❤❤ I love your out-takes. So professional. Well done 🥰. And of course, amazing content! Love all your beautiful projects. 😍
Dear Selma, enjoyed again.. lovely work, lots of inspiration. big hug
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for so much loveliness! Take care of yourself. We boated in Canadian waters in the mid-1970s with my parents. Stunning beauty! (North Channel of Lake Huron and parts of Lake Michigan) 💕
🙏🏻 thanks to you!
I made a striped Tolsta tee too...and I love it... great t-shirt sweater. Love your random stripes! Love "Crazy, Stupid, Love" and for some reason I often watch it when flying!
It’s such a fun watch!!
Thank you Selma. What a lovely fresh summer top your Tolsta is going to be. I so enjoyed your footage of Kingston. I would very much like to see more of Canada, having only visited Vancouver so far. With no overseas travel in my foreseeable future, it's very nice to be able to travel vicaiously via podcast! Take care x
You should check out the Knitty Stew if you haven’t already!!
I hear Sound of Freedom is very good. That is going to be my next movie in the theater.
Hi Selma, great pattern ideas! Thanks for the movie reviews! I was hoping Barbie would not disappoint. Hope to see it this weekend.
I thought it was funny, visually rich and interesting on a more philosophical level as well! Hope you enjoy it
Lavender ranunculus is perfection!
My goal is still to knit a Ranunculus- you have so many lovely ones. This year, for sure. I just finished my Corran Cardigan, found buttons in my button stash, so on they go and blocking to do. Still lots of time to wear it this summer knit. I am starting my second Lento. I loved making the first one, but it ended up with less positive ease than I like (still learning my perfect numbers), so my eldest daughter has seconded it and is loving it. This one will be grey instead of black, so easier on my old eyes to knit. All those interesting patterns and yarns you shared have again expanded my wish list of knits and yarns. Lol! I am just finishing my first HO for the Nordic make along as I watched your podcast today- the Lotus Lake socks by Anniinina Juitti -the lacework was so fun and challenging to do, but is so lovely. Glad your difficult month is over and hope you feel more rested as the summer goes on and that your mum regains some of her mobility.
Good one, liked this post!
I love your Tolsta. When I do stripes, I always do a faux side seam. Which is a pearlstitch on both the sides. It's fantastic to hide the jog and to weave in ends. It's also easier to carry up the yarn.
Love your podcast.🎉
Lovely as always. Selma, laser treatment has helped me very a lot for my wirst problems I struggled. Wish all the best with your mum as I know how hard is it with Alzheimer or dementia last year my family got trough with my granny. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you 😊 was the laser for repetitive strain or something else? This is intriguing!
@@littlebigknits for the repetitive strain
I really enjoyed all your knitting plans. Many were added to my Favorites file in Ravelry, call Inspired by Selma! Another beautiful Ranunculus - I've only made 2, but planning to make more. And as a Midwesterner, I love all of the Great Lakes. Thanks for a wonderful podcast.
Awww 🥰 that’s very sweet I must say 🤗🤗
So pretty, that ranunculus! And I always love stripes.
Thanks Lisa!
Kingston was my college town ❤️ enjoyed seeing so many familiar places
Great linen Ranunculus ! I love the color. Thanks for the tips about weaving the ends, it is always a challenge with plant fibers. So fun the random stripes on your Tolsta, it comes out quite cute. I wish you prompt recovery for your wrists and lots of patience for your mom .
Glad it was helpful! And thank you Nicole!!
Thank you for Sharing Selma and for the Great Outro song!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
So enjoy your podcasts Selma and see all your makes. Lovely to see the clip Thousand Islands at the end. I was there many years ago, a beautiful area. Best wishes to you❤
Thank you so much!
Hi Selma. I like the top you are working in the lavandar color. Your work came out beautifully, and you look beautiful in it. Take Care. 😊
Thank you so much!
Im doing catch up with your videos. Peoples' dementia is exacerbated by dehydration and immobility when hospitalised. Love your lilac ranunculus.
I love the colours in your tolsta tee
Thank you for so much knitting pattern inspiration! The bookend of your episode was lovely too - calm views and music.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I just retired in June so I am making my first trek to Rhinebeck. I’m disappointed to be missing you in New Mexico. We don’t get enough knitting love here.
Enjoy Rhinebeck!!!
My husband and I are going to Indiana Jones this weekend and then I'm going the barbie movie with my teenage daughter as well.
Good plan!
Today was the first time I watched, watched all the older ones first. Enjoyed it very much. Having trouble finding you on Raverly. Love the look Lacey pattern you have on. Beautiful country Canada, I grew up in Michigan USA but took a lot of trips to Places in Canada. I now live in Florida USA. Miss the cold because of the heavy sweaters. But have adjusted some patterns from worsted to fingering. Love the Scandinavian patterns. Just require more repeats.
Welcome aboard! I am selmaknits on Ravelry and instagram. Hope you find me ☺️
Selma the Ranunculus looks absolutely fabulous :) I need to knit one too now ..
Yes you do!! Thank you for the inspiration!!
Another special podcast and visit. I have also been looking at what I will be making for the rest of 2023. Something about that halfway mark that inspires. Yes Teti's podcast is a quiet thoughtful one and she designs beautiful patterns.
Lento is a terrific jumper. I made 2 versions of it last winter that I have worn with great pleasure. Good pattern, easy and fun to modify. Fast to make but looks just perfect.
Great to hear!
Love your Tolsta- knitting mine as I watch 😊
Excellent!!
Love the striping on your Tolstoy Tee. And the colors too. It turned out great!
Thanks so much!
I love the look of your backdrop. It is so calming and has inspired me to change up my scenery. thanks for all the tips on the Ranunculus and the movie recommendations. Glad you made it to podcast this weekend. Take Care
I’m glad you like podcast corner!! I must say that it is the neatest part of my house 😬😬
The 1000 Islands is my happy place. I'll often drive from Ottawa just to spend the day. Mallorytown Landing is a nice stop on the way to lunch at the Ivy Lea Club.
Lovely!!
Hi Selma. I am so glad that your arm is healing. You are a great knitter. I like to knit, also. I am working on a few projects, and the main project is a garter knit blanket for my 18 year old granddaughter who is going next month to a university; and the yarn is Rios in two colors in Lavanda and white and in alternate stripes. I am about 40” along with 187 stitches, and I need 25” more. Take Care.😊
You have your work cut out for you with that blanket and lucky girl!!
I love the stripe sweater, it's just right the way you arranged your stripes. It's beautiful! I'm almost done with the Tolsta, but I made it in a solid Orchid pink. I love stripes though so I am planning one soon. Thank you so much for the travel pics at the end. I've never been there or seen that area, it's gorgeous!
This is just so gorgeous. My daughter loves to knit. Kudos to women
Thank you very much for sharing! Much love, Teti
O M G! Love New Mexico, Georgia O’Keefe, hiking!
I just signed up with my Mom … I’m so excited
Yay!!! See you there!
Looks like you have knitting well into 2024 all planned! Sorry to hear about the issues with your mum. We had similar issues with my dear aunt who passed in her sleep last July at 99. Our hospital staff here in NS was stretched beyond belief yet they were compassionate and caring. Only when we got her back to the assisted living (enhanced care) were we able to get most of her "back" but had to stay on top of everything all the time. Yes, emotionally draining which is tiring. That's part of being in the sandwich generation. Hope things settle a bit for her and your family. Gorgeous summer Ranunculus!!!
Totally agree on having to be on top of everything and being the sandwich generation!
You just have the best taste in music of all knitting vlogs/podcasts ☺ (Even the footage of concerts or buskers you capture on your trips always is something where I think "yup, Selma stops and listens to the same things I would have stopped for"... Sorry, just had to mention that, can't seem to shake my job's perspective even when off work for summer - I usually sit in some kind of orchestra pit and try to make my viola sound not too nasty for the better part of the day, though!)
Good to see your hand coming back around, and love your version of the Tolsta! So classy!
Thinking of you and keeping you and your mum in my heart. My own mum is a cancer survivor during 2020/21, and I know what months of hospitalized isolation can do to a person's physical and mental health... With your put-togetherness, I really feel that your mum has a force to be reckoned with on her side. I just hope that you can feel and accept when you have to be gentle with yourself and let others share the weight!
All the best, Kari (from the lovely grey Baltic Sea coast in Germany)
I feel honoured that an actual musician thinks I have good taste in music!! ☺️☺️☺️ and thank you for your vote of confidence 😊😊 it is so clear that when someone is in hospital an advocate is essential!! 🤗🤗
Love your striped Tolsta and you summer ranunculus :)
Thank you!!
Your R. is really pretty, Selma, as is your strapped version of the Tolsta.
Thank you my dear!!
Wishing you a belated Happy Birthday! Another great episode; thank you! I am hoping to make another Ranunculus in a summer yarn, like linen or whatever pops out of my stash. I also want to make a Tolsta tee. So many wonderful knits! As I was viewing, I was knitting on the Rota sleeveless top. I am using Sandnes Garn Line, and, so far, after a false start, I am enjoying the process. I was given some of the stitch stopper things for my birthday, and I love them. I usually don’t go for gimmicks, but these are fun and add a little bit of whimsy to my knitting. I hope that your mom’s strength returns; she is very fortunate to have you to champion for her. Cheers, Dee
Thank you so much Dee!! I hope you will share your Rota somewhere so we can see it!
Anything you end up doing for your mom will be the right thing. It’s too easy to second guess yourself. I enjoyed your pictures on instagram of your mom looking at photos.
It is easy to second guess oneself and quite pointless so I’m going to try my best to stop
Hello fellow Ontario knitter! I love how you explain your projects- just enough detail and very clear. I’ve done the ankers summer tee and did not do any changes to the pattern and it turned out beautifully- it’s just a bit tedious so worth the effort. The striped tee is so cute and the colours sporty. I’m so glad I’ve found your podcast for the recycle ideas - you’re so inspirational 🌸
Oh thank you! I’m itching to cast on the Ankers tee!! I might just have to!
Lovely ❤️
Sending Love, Selma! Thanks for coming back despite everything you’ve been going through. Let’s hope for your mum’s improvement. Your Wrist is almost there!!! 🎉
Your new ranunculus is the sweetest thing 💌
Thank you so much!
Thanks for taking the time to podcast Selma,,,,Too much life stuff happening ,,,for YOU!,,
Glad ur mom out of hospital,,,,very stressful time for you,,!!!
Love UR ranunculus on you!!!wow,,,,Looks amazing,,,,
Elaine 🏡💖
Thank you Elaine!! I always appreciate your lovely and encouraging comments 🤗🤗
Selma - your finished projects are fabulous! Happy belated birthday 🥳 nice to see you received some yarny love from friends for your special day
Thank you! 😊
Oh my..you covered a lot of territory in this podcast..My head is spinning. Love your Nordic choices..in particular the Naturligvis...Love a long coat sweater! Beautiful footage of Kingston...congratulations on your retreat..what an adventure that will be! I wish you all the best with your Mum..keep pushing and trust your instincts..I know you're doing all the right things!
Selma, I always enjoy your podcasts. You do such beautiful knitting and I love your design and color choices. I just finished knitting Helix by Yumiko Alexander. I made the pullover and immediately received several compliments the first day I wore it. I believe her DanDoh Linen is considered a DK weight yarn. Yumiko is a friend of mine and she designs knitwear for the warm weather of AZ where we both live. I hope you give it a try!
Oooh that’s all great to hear!!!
Beautiful things, beautiful scenery, beautiful video!!! 🧶💕🧶
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would love to come to the retreat, but my new baby grandchild will arrive exactly that week. Maybe next time! 🇨🇦🇫🇮
Well that is exciting!!!!!!
Such a lovely podcast. I feel for you in regards to caring for your Mom. I am an only child and a nurse and had to take care of both of my parents at the same time. It was really difficult and draining for me. I totally understand and just know that you are not alone. My parents are both gone now. Looking forward to your next podcast. Take care!🧶❤
Thank you Selma for taking the time to share another lovely episode! I know it's not easy with all things happening in your life lately. Your summer Ranunculus looks so lacy and pretty!
Thank you so much!
Beatiful Ranunculus again ❤. Lino looks wonderful. Love your podcast. ❤💙🇳🇴
Ranunculuslooks fab. I knit the deschain but I found it dropped unevenly and reknit as ranunculus and a
Knit the bolan which was gorgeous and sat really well.
Goo to hear!
It was good to spend time with you. I'm sorry to hear all the hassles you've had, dealing with health care issues for your Mom.
Your Summer Renunculus is stunning, it looks great on you as well.
I also love the Naturligvis. You have some beautiful selections chosen for upcoming knits. I am very inspired by them.
Thank you also for the beautiful footage at the end.
Take care of yourself!! See you next time.
Thank you!! It’s good to be here 😊😊
It's good to have you back dear Selma. The sweater that you'd like to knit before the end of the year is just so beautiful and it will look lovely on you.
Kisses. Ivana ❤
Thank you so much Ivana 😘😘 and thank you for being here 🤗🤗🤗
I love all of your knits..the color of your summer Ranunculus is so beautiful. Great job on your tea cozy...love it!! Thanks for the great footage at the end😊
I grew up in Rochester, NY, so Lake Ontario was a frequent summer trip, as well as the Thousand Islands. I was little and it was in the days before needing a passport to travel to Canada. I don’t remember a whole lot, but your video conjured up warm feelings of a happy time, so thank you❤
Thanks for sharing! That’s really lovely!!
My phone did the same thing. Turns out it was my audio books. I deleted the whole app and then reinstalled it. I have plenty of memory now. I empathize with you caring for your mom. I had my mom and 3 husbands at various times and sometimes concurrently. Worst times of my life. I was bone weary all the time. You have my sympathies.
I deleted a bunch of apps and then turned off my phone and reinstalled them and now I have plenty of space! I suspect it was UA-cam as I had many saved videos. It is indeed exhausting!! Thank you ☺️
Your new lavender Ranunculus looks so beautiful on you Selma 😍
I made the Deschain last year and omitted the sleeves as well as the lace on the back. In hindisght I do not recommend omitting the lace on the back as this has caused the back to ride up shorter than the front.
Sounds like the past month or so has been difficult for us both. Thank heavens for our crafts to drown our emotions in 😘💕
Yes it’s been a tough one for us 😢❤️ thanks for the tip on the deschain. Let’s see when I cast it in but I will keep that in mind
Love your Rannunculus and I appreciate all your pattern research for summer tops. So sorry life has been a challenge recently but so pleased to hear your mum is out of the hospital. Unfortunately hospitals are not the best places for elderly people. I do understand what you are going through with your mum and wish you strength and patience as you try and get the care she deserves.
They really aren’t!! ❤️❤️
Lino is on my list too! So nice to see the Thousand Islands it was a lovely reminder of our trip to Ontario a few years back which included Parry Sound and a a boat trip to see the Islands xxx
Nice!!
I started laughing when you held up the Contrasts book because I have it sitting in my lap while watching this episode, knitting the Alku Cardigan of all things! I am obsessed with this book; all the patterns are fabulous. A beautiful episode Selma, thank you for sharing your makings and inspirations!
I’m excited to start that pattern!!!
Love your ranunculus! I made two out of linen. I do not love knitting with linen however I love the garment it makes!
They are great to wear!
I feel like we really had a visit! I love your style and the pleasant atmosphere you create!
You always share such wonderful inspiration!! Thank you 😊
Thank you so much!
Selma, try a nude or skin tone camisole under your lavender ranunculus , I think you will find skin tone ( which for you may be a pale pink) won’t show up as much. So enjoy all your lovely knits.🇺🇸😊
Hi Selma, love your Tolsta sweater, great colours
Thanks so much 😊
Good one, liked this post!
The lavender rannuculous is beautiful and the Tolsta is great. What inspiration. Loved the colors
Thank you so much!
Lovely episode Selma! I really like your stripey tolsta! Very nice! So sorry you are on the emotional rollercoaster. All the best with your mum!
Thank you ❤️❤️
Another lovely Ranunculus 😍 It is very hard to see our parents decline with age and illness. Sending healing vibes to your mom. I look forward to hiking and knitting with you in New Mexico 🧶
Ooooh so cool!!! Glad you are joining!!
New subscriber, here! I live just about 2.5 hours drive south of Ghost Ranch. I love going out that way.
Thanks for the sub! I can’t wait to visit ghost ranch!
I live in New Mexico! How cool! I will take a look. :-)
Please do!
Hi Selma, I recommend reading/listening to Being Mortal by Atul Gawande.... I think it may give new thoughts re your mother and her progressing illness... its a great book anyway... thank you for the full podcast today!
Thank you for the recommendation!!
I love all your work. You do such beautiful knitting. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much! 😊😊
Hi Selma, Sorry about your mother's troubles. It's always hard to see them suffer. Mine ended up with a perforated appendix (she's 93) but came out of the operation like a trouper. Still, it was a shock. And we must be on the same wavelength! I missed your last podcast, but I also started a Tolsta Tee (striped, also, and it's almost finished) and finished a Ranunculus in the same colour as yours, except in Cotton/bamboo mix. No split hem, though. 😄 Glad to see you're out of the cast.
Twinsies!! Glad your mother came out a trouper!!!
You certainly have your work cut out for you with all the Nordic knitting! Seeing parents decline is so hard. Please know that you are doing all the right things regarding your mom. Keep that positive, optimistic outlook, it'll carry you far. Sending hugs, and lots of knitting love. 🤗🥰
Thank you Marg ❤️😊
I am glad that you Mom is back in her regular home, and I agree that the hospitals don't do good physical therapy. They do the required, but nothing to really help the patient build up. I have experienced it myself. I know the stress! Take care.
🤗🤗🤗 I’m sorry you have experienced it. I think next time I will fight to get her out of the hospital as fast as possible!
Selma, you love your mum so much that you will ALWAYS do the right thing in taking care of her so don’t exhaust yourself by unnecessarily questioning your actions. From experience I know the tangle of emotions which will be like when the cat gets in your yarn bag! When it’s precious yarn you sit quietly and gently undo the tangle, maybe make a few snips here and there, a few rejoins, but eventually you figure it out. Take time for yourself and keep doing the best thing you can do for your mum and that is to love her with all your heart, the “system” can’t take that from either of you x
You are so right that it a system that messes with us!! Thank you for your words ❤️🤗
Appreciate you mentioning going up or down needle sizing with different weight yarns. Something I must embrace as a spinner. Beautifully made garnents as always with lots of inspiration, so thank you❤
You are so welcome! 😊😊
Great podcast. I loved seeing all the pattern ideas! I love your striped Tolsta tee and your lavender Ranunculus! ❤ I can’t wait to see what you cast on next!
I was very inspired by your Tolsta tee. I haven’t made a lot of garments and I was disappointed that I have holes at my sleeves like yours has. I now know that is a part of the process and I didn’t make a mistake. Thank you for showing your process before you make them perfection
Yes sewing in the ends will make a difference for sure!
I am also knitting the Corran cardigan and have found that knitting lace causes me to move my wrists differently than stockinette knitting and my hands, (left wrist has some metal in it), are sore that evening. Hang in there! 😊
I’ve never had issues in the past but now… 😭😭😭
Love the ranunculus. Color lovely. The stripe colours also look great. As usual fab elisode
Thank you so much!
Here's a suggestion for the hank of lovely brown yarn from Finland that you are so fond of. You could knit a rectangular piece of fabric, felt it, then add snaps at the four corners, and you'd have another flat basket like the one you featured in this video.
Thanks for the idea!!
Thank you for sharing your knitting tips! Enjoy your knitting sessions and prosper ❤
Thank you! 😊
My heart goes out to you 💞 went through the same with my mom a few years back. It is very hard to take care of your mom…you constantly doubt yourself if you did the “right” thing…but then ,what is this right thing😢 be strong and don’t forget to take care of yourself as well 😊
That’s exactly it!! Glad to hear I’m not alone 🥰🥰
That rustic sheepy skein could be made into an oblong table runner in a smaller size with or without fringe on the ends. Love your stripy Tolsta and your Ranunculus.
Thanks for the idea!
Lovely interesting podcast Selma, thank you ❤
I absolutely love your sweater ❤
I love your podcast. Thank you for the inspiration. I mentioned you as one of MY fave podcasters on my Podcast. Episode 2. You are an amazing knitter and I love your calm voice. I also mentioned your skirt pattern... which is on my list for winter knitting. ♥
Thank you so much!! And I have mentioned you in my next one!
I’m planning to make the kari from natasja hornby with the solje from hillesvage. The Kari is a cardigan. You tolsta tee is gorgous
I will look it up!!
Loved your podcast today. Inspiration galore. Saved a few patterns to favourites. Love your taste.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you for another inspiring episode. From my experience the Sølje yarn softens significantly through handling, washing and wear. I gladly use Sølje next to skin. It’s one of my favourite yarns.
Thanks for the insight. I’ll be curious to see how it evolves ☺️☺️
Selma, I love your tea cozy with the Sashiko embroidery, very pretty. I have 2 felted sweaters (by accident) I need to figure out what to do with. Maybe a needle roll, or project bag. I've been taking up a bit of crochet, making blankets for my Grandkids (3), using up only from stash, enjoying a new craft. Wishing you less stressful days ahead. 🤗
Great ideas!! Thank you for your wishes 🤗🤗
I need to get on the Ranunculus train! Yours is beautiful! I have been hesitant to try because I'm intimidated by finding the correct size. Always love your podcast - one of my very favorites!
Please do! You can figure it out as you go!
Selma I love split hems too and make the back hem a bit longer which also helps with fit. I’ve been to Lourdes twice so far and I can guarantee there are always blessings during and after a visit. 😊
That’s lovely to hear!! ❤️❤️
I’ve made a Ranunculus fitted, one very oversized, and after seeing yours I think I’m going to make one with more open and long like a beach cover up or as a dress. I love Yumiko Alexander’s open designs. Her yarn to me is more of a thicker fingering or in between worsted. I’ve made Woven Shadows, River and one other. Indiana Jones and the Disney Haunted House are my want to see.
Beautiful summer sweater😮❤
Thank you! 😊
