This is actually a great piece of history. It captures the hope of the year 2000, and the 2000's from the people of the 90's. It's a dead shame they didn't get the perfect world they imagined, but this song captures that hope, and keeps it alive for us, to enjoy in their hope more than 20 years on.

after ABSOLUTELY falling in love with song when I visited the UK in 1999, I've checked out Robbie Williams. Millenium is the only song that I will listen to OVER and OVER, 24 years later!!!! I LOVE it, and it's always fresh.
I remember this one and Rock DJ both which I like. I went on a school trip to England the summer of 2000. Someone there asked if we knew who Robbie Williams was in Canada and we said yes. They said he was a big deal over there. While we were there Rock DJ came out and all over the radio they kept talking about how he was under fire for how controversial the music video was. When I got home to Canada and got to watch Much Music (back when they played music) I finally got to see what all the fuss was about.

I didn’t think much of this song when it came out. I was 25 living in my new house. I was still taking things for granted. 25 years later I now see that the 90s was the last of the great decades.
Think the answer to why Robbie Williams never broke America is here. At the height of Neptune’s, Dr Dre and Timbaland production, Nelle Hooper videos, and Nu Metal, Williams samples A 60s bond theme and does an ironic song and video that so specifically British - in its irony, attitude cultural references (Reliant Robin and ‘come and have a go if you think you are hard enough’)and self depreciation.

I first discovered him in 99 when deployed to Kosovo. He wasn't as big as he should have been in the states. Just watched the trailer for his movie which looks awesome. Glad he's getting a new audience
I first heard this song as I walking around in the Kensington area of London in 1998. Kensington Park, I wanted to find an outfit that I could get a horse and ride through the park. People riding everywhere, and I couldn't hire a horse for the life of me. But I heard this song, and now every time I hear it, it reminds me of Kensington Park, and seeing so gosh-darned many Canada Geese, (which we have an over abundance of here in Canada,), and magpies, and mute swans, and twisty old oak trees. The song brings back SOOOO many memories. Plus, the song itself is just soooo great.
I feel nostalgic for times I never lived in. That's a frickin heavy and depressing feeling. Even more depressing than for times I actually have been living.
Are you saying you were too young when this video came out, or weren’t even born yet? Either way it’s a valid feeling. I’ve felt that way too, but just now I miss 1998-2001 (pre-9-11] the most. I was 13 in 2000. Such a cool time to grow up in.

Love this song. I’m 33 years old going on 34 in a month and a half and I remember when I was 9-10 years old I would listen to this song every morning on MTV or VH1 before I went to school for like 3 years straight. It ended up being one of those songs that’s stuck with me since.
A "died in the wool" memory" . One that will hopefully stay with you forever.
This song was underrated in US
Agreed! I loved this song so much and I couldn't believe it wasn't bigger here! ❤❤
Why it's so beautiful
@@AmmarAlfaqhawi Exposure. They didn't pay for play here. Mainstream outlets are the same everywhere.
This was number 1 this week 25 years ago, still one of my favourite hits from his.
Amazing
This didn't chart at all in the US, and has always baffled me as to why. Kick ass song with a Bond vibe. what's not to love?
@@SunderShould-Be-King ok well maybe he never released it in the US he probably only released records in the UK
I miss those happy years (late 1990s and the beginning of 2000s).😢
Don't we all
@@rickytonks4906sorry for you.😔
Amen
yeah they were special
That song kicked ass 20 years ago and it still kicks ass to this day!!! One of my favorite RW tracks.
after ABSOLUTELY falling in love with song when I visited the UK in 1999, I've checked out Robbie Williams. Millenium is the only song that I will listen to OVER and OVER, 24 years later!!!! I LOVE it, and it's always fresh.
"we got stars directing our fate" goosebumps everytime
So gayyy 😅
Or the other way around
i still had hope when this song came out.
i miss those days
H o.o pe is in the heart
Me 2.😔👍💯
God that is so true 😔
The song itself was a warning. I remember it as such.
Crimea River
Going into Better Man, this was one of only two or three Robbie Williams songs that Americans knew/remembered.
Bad news, they didn't even know these ones.
@@Connor8609🧢🧢🧢
I remember this one and Rock DJ both which I like. I went on a school trip to England the summer of 2000. Someone there asked if we knew who Robbie Williams was in Canada and we said yes. They said he was a big deal over there. While we were there Rock DJ came out and all over the radio they kept talking about how he was under fire for how controversial the music video was. When I got home to Canada and got to watch Much Music (back when they played music) I finally got to see what all the fuss was about.
I wish they included this song in A Better Man
@@Krueger303 I think I read he doesn't really like this song.
What an awesome tongue and cheek homage to Bond but still standing on its own. Gotta love it even after all these years.
RIP Sean Connery [1930 -2020]. Thanks Robbie for this great track !!
Check out my Sean Connery tribute I did with Robbie Williams millennium on my channel back in November 5th
The new theme of "You Only Live Twice"! R.I.P. Sir Sean Connery
He sucked.
RIP John Williams.
How Sean Conery is connected to this song??

What a great James Bond Robbie Williams would be! Perfect for the role! Beautiful, talented man- now a husband and dad! 🙏🏻🩷🐾
This is not only a very grandiose song, it transcends because it marked the sound of the millinnium!
Robbie Williams facial expressions are the best

This song popped into my head thus morning on my way to work. Words are true, music is catchy, video is bomb, and Robbie is not hard on the eyes either. Still a banger! This song is a whole vibe. Thank you Robbie. Anybody here with me listening?
So nostalgic, so timeless, one of my closest friends in high school looked exactly like Robbin too so it's crazy so much wisdom in this song and the delivery is priceless
Robbie Williams would of made a great James Bond.
True!!!!
Agreed he has the charisma and personality
My all time favorite RW track. Quintessential of its time too. 1999 was incredibly special. You had to be there to understand the feeling. Bring me back.
Robbie Williams is a legend
agree with you ...
Let’s goooo Dec 31st 2024 RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR BABY
Happy New Year!!!! With Love - Alicia.
LFG 🔥. Happy new year.
The most realest words ever in a song. We all enjoy the madness, cause we know we're going to fade away.
Worshipping the devil you will..
It's up there with "But were never gonna survive unless, we get a little crazy"
RUSTY! YOU, Sir, are correct!
"You only live twice" Classic James Bond, John Barry!
Thanks! I didn't know which one it was.
All these years later, this song still holds up. Robbie Williams was classy then and he remains classy now. Good music is timeless. :)
Which one is the best song of Robbie. As per your understanding.
James Bond feels + 2000s Vibe = PERFECTION
This song for me is legendary.
In 2000, I was gearing up, clubbing, enjoying everything. This song was me and my friend’s theme song for The Club every time we’d go out. This was just a magical time.
The sample is EVERYTHING!!
Who did the sampling? :)
100%
Being the massive James Bond fan that I am, I adore this song, this video and Robbie. It is incredible.
The song sampled a James Bond song

@Evan Yes it is!!! Love this song
Me too n***a
This guy is literally, my childhood!
I heard this song in the background of an MTV show in the summer of 2000, immediately loved it but had no idea what it was called. I've been searching for it for 23 years. Twenty-three years!! I finally just found it. Can't describe this feeling. The relief, sheesh. Love it
They played the crap out of this song in 99/2000. I'm surprised you only heard it in the background.
Me too omg geesh!!!!!
Rest In Peace Sean Connery
1930-2020
Great homage to every Bond movie, composed by John Barry. Such recognizable themes
I didn’t think much of this song when it came out. I was 25 living in my new house. I was still taking things for granted. 25 years later I now see that the 90s was the last of the great decades.
This was the sound of the 2000 start point.... I can feel it from this energy. It was so ready for the new era....
The way, this dude, manage his way into Pop Music. Paving his own way while paying his due.
Hats Off.
Robbie Williams was so goooood in the 90s and early 00s. Crazy to think most Americans don’t even know who he is.
They haven't got much taste. They like Taylor swift for god's sake!!
@@timbeames5635and you people consume our media like crazy and let our culture replace yours. Doesn’t matter which country you’re from, I’m right :)
He had bad timing.
I do and I’m American. This song introduced me to him
@@Roidweiseryou overestimate the popularity of your stuff beyond your borders man. Although what you said indeed applies for some European countries.
Every time I'm failing in life, I listen to this song, and think about listening to it as a middle schooler, and seeing how bright the future was. And I realize. I still have a chance
You don't have to make it big, just be the best person you can be, then you will have made it.

i feel sympathy for them !!! poor guys !!! they know only Rihanna and etc.....
I'll never forget the first time I heard and saw this. I thought Robbie Williams was the coolest person in the universe...
As an American that never heard of Robbie Williams until I saw Better Man trailers, I decided to look up some songs. This is my favorite so far. This song is a banger. Love the use of the You Only Live Twice theme.
The nod to Pinewood Studios (where the Bond movies were filmed) at the very end was cool, too.
Edit: for sure this song is a banger
Robbie on the boat dressed in white looks so much like a young Sean Connery .. come on Robbie more music please .. and I played this in memory of Sean himself may he rest in Peace x
Rest in Peace,Sir Sean . . .
I like the sample of the “You only live Twice” theme.
It's a remix of a theme from a Bond film 👍
Googled it and yes i have to agree
I was obsessed with this song and Robbie in 1999. I was 16, it was fun.
Every New Years, I still come back to this song. ♥️ 🎉

This song is just sensational!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve listened to this song this year alone! At least 100 that’s for sure! Literally, it never gets old! 😍
Cannot believe quarter of a century has passed since this masterpiece where did the time go?
I first discovered him in 99 when deployed to Kosovo. He wasn't as big as he should have been in the states. Just watched the trailer for his movie which looks awesome. Glad he's getting a new audience
This song brings me back to end of 1999... countdown on 31 December 1999... Welcoming a new era, a new year 2000
Yup that's how I remember it.
So much hope for the future...what went wrong?
Yup he performed on stage

My thoughts exactly! I was thinking the same thing.. .it takes me back to being ten years old lol
Williams is James Bond and John English, all in one.
how is he Johnny English
Robbie, for the next James!
Oh.. Those 90s!
A lot of his older music still holds up. Great to see.
We got stars and we've got entertainers. Robbie Williams belongs in both categories...

I was 57 in 2000. I'm 75 now and still get moving goosebumps... great edible Robbie!
I wasn't born yet at this time. I was born in 2002. Soo yeah, I feel (or rather felt) nostalgic for the times I've never actually lived in.
@@ZiomZiomCreeper I felt that way about the 60s. Everyone not at war seemed to be fighting for something with peaceful protests, ending segregation, music was still original and better than much of what's popular today, the fashion, and so on. Exciting and important times. But here we are today with peaceful protests and fighting against racism all over again. (Except with the riots and Chaz, its not all peaceful...) I doubt anyone will ever look back on 2020 and say "Boy, I sure wish I was around for that!"
It was an amazing time. More mystery to life... Now everything is in your face all the time.. Everyone is trying to sell their brand.. A more genuine time
Don't be. 90s were hell as a young adult. Unemployment and overall a difficult economic situation in the world. If you like the music enjoy it here on youtube and after the pandemic go to a retro festival with music from the 90s. Take care!
Wow, I went to movie mystery monday and "better man" was the movie. I saw "I want to be nobody" ... Or something like that (it was a documentary) and this song was on and it reminded me of my childhood. I went to UA-cam and it didn't disappoint. Every 90s kid knows this song
One of the best songs and singers ever! His voice is amazing and unique, can't get enough of it. ♥
