Lyrics:
Don't tell me to stop
Tell the rain not to drop
Tell the wind not to blow
'Cause you said so, mmm
Tell the sun not to shine
Not to get up this time, no, no
Let it fall by the way
But don't leave me where I lay down
Tell me love isn't true
It's just something that we do
Tell me everything I'm not
But please don't tell me to stop
Tell the leaves not to turn
But don't ever tell me I'll learn, no, no
Take the black off a crow
But don't tell me I have to go
Tell the bed not to lay
Like the open mouth of a grave, yeah
Not to stare up at me
Like a calf down on its knees
Tell me love isn't true
It's just something that we do
Tell me everything I'm not
But don't ever tell me to stop
(Don't you ever) Tell me love isn't true
It's just something that we do
(Don't you ever) Tell me everything I'm not
But don't ever tell me to stop
(Don't you ever)
Please don't
Please don't
Please don't tell me to stop
(Don't you ever tell me) Don't you ever
Don't ever tell me to stop
(Tell the rain not to drop)
Tell the bed not to lay
Like a open mouth of a grave, yeah
Not to stare up at me
Like a calf down on its knees

The orchestral ending to this song is fucking incredible.
Agreed its such a simple but moving melody :)
I need a extended version with that orchestral ending longer
My favorite part ❤
One of Madonna's best songs and is underrated for its originality. 23 years old and it still holds up. Nostalgic and heartfelt with the orchestral strings echoing the sentiment that time is moving and we cannot stop it. Complimented by the Wild West theme.
Geez 23 years already, seems like yesterday when this came on vh1

Take that Queen B
1) Music isn't even a country album 2) Shania Twain was doing country & adding pop influences before Madonna. Like c'mon now
i agree, shania was the pioneer of merging country and pop music, but she’s a country artist (like dolly parton), as a main pop artist, i cannot think of many who have tried country aesthetic and sound before madonna (i’m not saying it didn’t exist, but it wasn’t popular until she did it)
The beat is so good, loved it back in 2000 and still loving it in 2024. Definition of a timeless hit ❤
OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE LEGEND
I think this might be the most beautiful thing she ever did. Underrated. She was 42, the same age Beyoncé is now (2024) when embarking on an exploration of country music. It's different (I think her whole record will be country, and B is actually from the South), but it's fascinating to see the parallels.
I did not appreciate this at the time. It's gorgeous. This was really against the grain for when it came out to mesh so many genres. The choreography is so fun and it looks like they had a ball doing it.
Madonnas song is way catchier that Beyonces
This was an one time thing. This album wasn't a country album or an attempt at one.
@@77bluegold Madonna was the first to subvert country music style. ‘Don’t Tell Me’ was the beginning of country music breaking in to the pop world. You don’t have to devote a whole album to be the first to take the country music genre and spin it on its head…just one great song will do it ☺️
Love this period in Madonna's career. The songs were beautifully crafted.
Yeahh
Music is definitely one of my favorite Madonna albums and albums in music in general
Im beginning to understand her newer attitude now because Im getting older now too! I loved her when I was a pee brained kid! And she'll never stop sounding or looking that good!!!!

This wasn’t a country/pop album!! What are you talking about?
There's no "country" element in the song itself - only the style and dance of western culture with hunky guys - in a sultry-sounding pop song. Madonna did a great job implementing this western cowboy style into the video for greater visual appeal. Nicely done!
Madonna's music is timeless.

And just when Jay-Z thinks Queen B is the original , think again. You got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one.

So true, I was cleaning the house the other day and "Secret" came on I literally started singing the song, while cleaning, lol!! That's one thing I can say about both Madonna & Prince, you can here a song they made 15, 20, hell over 25 years ago and still get into it.
