@@kadmow Proper hardwired radios don't seem to be a thing in the US. In Australia, every 4x4 and big rig has a UHF CB in the dash and most people carry at least one of the little GME handhelds in the plastic crate with all your odds and ends in it. We still use CB a lot on the road but it looks to be out of style over there, even the big rigs don't always have one any longer, not like here.

You wish you had a cool dad, don't you dare think all dads are cool like Matt. Mine's OK but he don't do things with his kids, just mom. work, church, and sleep.
My father was great he always took me places we work on cars together we would go on fishing trips. I miss him passed on 30 years ago ill never forget him. I remember when growing up so many friends fathers had almost no interaction with their kids all they did was watch football on TV and work. When their kids grew up they moved out of state hardly spoke to them they wonder why.
Marvelous and refreshing to see drama of real life situations without amplification by drama queens. Exemplary team leadership and cooperation. Love it! Thanks!
It is incredible to see Matt work through a situation so complicated and challenging. This really stretched the team but you were a master as always. Definitely need a pre-recovery check list of all the gear needed. But just like MacGyver you make do and always find a way. Amazing recovery. Kulin, is mentoring and becoming an expert in his own right. Great to see father and son.
Let's take a moment to appreciate Matt's overall physical condition. I've no idea how many times he hiked up and down that cliff, but... It was a lot. You are a tenacious bull Mr. Matt
@dalesmith112 Matt and his boy and never not once did whine cry belly ache or complain not once and kept a smile and a awesome attitude the whole time! Great people and maybe it will rub off on others!
You have to be kidding!?! You can hear him puffing like a steam train after the first step! What he does have though is more will power and tenacity than any one person should be allowed to have. What he lacks in aerobic fitness is more than made up for. I for one wouldn't want to be in the way of him and whatever he's decided he's going to do.
Excellent job guys. The fact that people are calling you in from California shows how unique and expert your company is at what you do. And the wrecker continues to prove that your vision building it was spot on. Thanks for sharing.

Worst part is. Living in multiple small rural towns. Good chance the thief is standing next to you at the top. Thier is always a hand full that will steal your wallet and help you look for it.
Thank you I was going to say the same thing could even be the owner because if the truck is not visible from the road, how would the thief know it’s there it Has to be someone within the circle
Buddy rolled a jeep years back, i broke my shoulder, while they got me out of woods and passed to another truck, about hour away from his rig and they got back to it being raided, then guys proceeded to come help him recover with his straps they stole
This was an incredible recovery! You definitely know and use all of your resources effectively! I have watched a lot of “Highway Thru Hell”, and they usually have their heavy duty wreckers with mega winch capacity, but you wouldn’t take a second to them at all! Also, it’s awesome to see how patient and respectful you are with your son and others around you. I really appreciate and enjoy watching your episodes !!
Some takeaways from this recovery for me: 1. Matt's problem-solving ability really is excellent. 2. Matt's fitness is pretty impressive too. 3. Kaulin's committment, focus and trust in his dad on stuff like this is really makes a difference. One thing though Kaulin, you stepped inside the V from the truck on the hill while working on the shackle setup and if the line has broken you would have been dragged down with the vehicle. Great episode guys - kept me on the edge of my seat.
Everyone always says don't work with or for family. Matt's boys make it look so enjoyable. Kaulin is just a great kid him and Rhett have come a long way in this past year. Much love and respect from the Big East.
The bug you found was a millipede. Millipedes have round bodies with two pairs of little legs per segment of the body, centipedes have flat bodies with one pair of big legs per segment of the body. So, if it looks like a worm with a lot of little legs, it's a millipede. Millipedes are vegetarians and curl up into a ball to protect their vitals when disturbed, centipedes are active hunters that run around eating other bugs.
Kaulen, is great. but in reality all Matt's kids are wonderful, a testament to faith, structure, hands on parenting, love and support and choosing right woman. Matt won the lottery with Jaymie.
MORR no one would blame you if, upon arrival and seeing the situation, you had gotten back in your truck and headed back to Utah. Utmost props to you for staying and "getting 'em out"! First class operation all the way.
At 49 minutes into the video as you are working outside after dark, KUDOS to Matt for not yelling/cursing at the person holding the flashlight for him. Matt is the OG! I hope Matt got paid for his efforts beyond an out-of-state mechanic's lien on the truck -- which got hauled off.
interested people are interesting! Centipedes have one pair of legs per body segment, while millipedes have two pairs per segment. The number of legs varies by species, but centipedes typically have between 15 and 191 pairs, while millipedes typically have between 40 and 400 pairs. Centipede legs are prominent and stick out from the sides of the body, while millipede legs are tucked under the body and are harder to see. Centipedes have a flattened body, while millipedes are more rounded. Centipedes move quickly, while millipedes move slowly, just wanted to touch on that.
Fantastic. I lived every moment of that recovery with you from my chair in Devon, England - every exertion, every bead of sweat and every craving for darkness not to fall
Awesome recovery!! and great use of all your equipment! Speaking of equipment, shout out to those winches!!! WOW!! Could turn it into and add for those! And kudos to all who worked on the tow truck! With out all the wiring, welding and all the work that went into it that recovery wouldn't have been possible! Awesome jobs guys!!!
That was an EPIC recovery, literally. Has to be a top 3 hardest recovery. Matt really is a genius that found his niche in life doing what he apparently loves and is so good at. His boys are fine youngsters who are learning tons from the old man and hopefully will follow in his footsteps.
Nah, they did a canyon clean up with heavy D sparks that used two heavy off-road wreckers and connected 3 junk cars together and pulled them all up together like a chain.
You boys are a different breed, that hill looks like a beast on camera I can imagine it’s worse in person but you both climbed it a number of times. My hats off to you guys, you’re a dying breed of men.
There's a particular road in Colorado where if a car is abandoned more than 2 days, I'd say there's a 90% chance the windows will all be smashed out when you get back to it. I imagine they take everything useful out of it in the process. I hate thieves and vandals. Like Kaulin said, "They're already having a bad day/week."
And they do the removal in the most destructive way. I spent a month fixing every single harness under the dash of a truck that thieves stole the head unit from. They just took a knife to every single wire even if it wasn't radio related. And the dumbest part was that they stole an OEM base model head unit, which could have just been unplugged if they looked at the back of the radio.
Matt, it was once again the truck you designed and built that did this recovery. It's winch locations and total number of winches that made this possible. For the reason that all of this equipment worked for the recovery was the Master Recovery Expert Matt. Had he not been there I don't think this recovery would have been successful. But, Matt was there and this was number two of the top three recoveries for "The Off Road Wrecker ". 1. New Mexico, this California, and the southern California. Just for the record Hanging Tree was maybe number four. GREAT Recovery Matt and Colin...
David Farmer I have to agree. For the first time ever, I have watched a MORR recovery twice. Before I became a MORR fan & to this day, I am a Ron Pratt "rotator Ron" fan. Other than they both do recovery, totally opposite to each other. Until this vid. All about the math and the angles. Working with family, along with being good managers of people in general. Family friendly content. I never thought I would compare these two channels favorably, though I watch both all of the time. And sometimes wondered why I liked both. I think now I do.
Wow, this has to be one of your "Top Ten" of all time jobs! Phew! That was two day's work packed into 4 hours. Congrats on getting her out! And you guys were in my backyard. I thought those roads looked familiar! LOL
Kaulin getting hit in the face with a rock at 42:02 was absolutely terrifying. Goes to show the unknown risks of this line of work - be careful but never stop doing what you're doing! Amazing work.
What's actually terrifying is that you think that is terrifying That's ridiculous you got hit in the face with a rock calm down. I don't think you quite understand what terrifying means
Wow, in my backyard, too! .... I've been up that road many times, and I'm not sure how fast you have to go to get taken off the road like that, but... nice work, as always...
Traveling on the old state roads are really much more interesting than the freeways, but in the winter the hazards out weigh the beauty, learnd that the hard way myself.

Where I live in British Columbia nothing can be left in the bush without security. Without security it will be stripped, vandalized or burned to the ground. Logging companies can no longer leave gear in the bush without a security guard on site. It is pathetic that a person can’t leave their vehicle unattended while getting a recovery lined up. Very sad .
As someone who lives in West kootenays where the policies of the government making drugs legal has increased crime like 50 percent and if it ain't nailed down or being watched it definitely grows legs !
I really appreciate your tenacity and skill in doing a job that none of the other pros would touch. I learned quite a bit watching this and I've hauled a few jeeps and trucks up and out of tough places myself. A couple of times, I've used a hand-cranked boat winch, which did its work, although others standing around said it wouldn't. A few times, there were no trees, so I had to use a crowbar, pounded in with an ax, as a deadman. I'll be watching some more of these.
Matt, what is needed is a “ MORR must not forget bag” filled with stuff that seems to be forgotten. Such as Radios and stuff 😉 Glad you completed the task 👍
A clipboard in the cab with a checklist and the initials of whoever inspected the vehicle.....But, that takes all the fun and drama out of the job....lol
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏!!!!! Phew, I’m exhausted. Good job guys. Colin, you’re a trooper. I know that rock that hit you really hurt you but you kept on “trucking”! (No pun intended:). Matt, you are more than just another pretty face! 80 year old gramma here. 😄
Another amazing recovery! Wow, that dude got lucky! I drove off a cliff once in So. Cal. Same deal. I nosed over and luckily didn't roll. Drove the truck out of the ravine the next morning. Was insane! Great work y'all!
This was a lesson in male communication when under stress. Loud, clear, concise. Nobody got their feelings hurt, and everyone knew who was in charge without it ever having to be stated. It also helps when everyone can listen and follow orders without 100 questions. Nice job men!!
These are the technical recovers that brought me to the MORR TEAM in the first place. I know you can't have one every day, but man, do I enjoy them when they happen. Thank you.
I drive a little TJ and I was able to pull out a large ram truck out of the Lacerne, California desert sand. Thanks to you I knew the basic knowledge how to use my winch! Love the content and great video!
Matt is right . The hooks that were welded to the bumper, being 12 -14 inches above the mounting point on the frame , were a lever multipling the pressure on the bumper mounts . The Farmer did a good job it was just a bad placement of the hooks for picking up the whole truck.
if i was working on hills like that as often as these guys, i'd probably install a fast moving winch that is only used for hiking up and down the hill. the reason is that the more physically exhausted you get, the less mental acuity you have. so having a helping hand while climbing can lighten the load on the body and help make better calls in stressed situations, especially when the air is getting a little thin...
You guys are committed. 8 hr drive to help this person out that I'm sure know one else would without charging them 3 to 5 grand to do it. You a great group of people to do what you do!
@bobtahoma I really think they do charge. I've been watching for about 3 yrs now and they don't charge. They just use UA-cam views to pay for it. They even give out free shirts, too.
It looked like there was a spare tire in the bed of the truck. Wouldn't it be easier to swap out the front right tire off the rim before pulling it up the hill? Great job on the recovery! That was a hard job.
What an incredible recovery! It's a testament to Matt's reputation that they were called in to perform that long distance job. I can't help but wonder, was the cost of the recovery justified when compared to the repair cost or scrap value of the truck?
Same here. Driving all that way with a crew of several people taking what . . . 3 days? My only thought was that, somehow, the owners needed to remove the truck so as not to abandon it on someone else's land -- or public land. ???
@southerner66 bingo. They're somewhere around the Capay Valley, Yolo County, best I can tell. Lots of state fish and wildlife land and a national monument to be careful of in the steep ridges north of Lake Berryessa. (PS I figure they drove until late before stopping at the Kings Inn.)
@@southerner66 yes, you must remove or the managing agency will charge a fine plus cost of recovery. I am guessing Matt does this at a loss for content.
I know Matt will use a sliding scale on cost for recovery for some jobs. I think if he makes a video out of the recovery he might give them a break on the cost. Just a feeling, Matt is a good dude and probably knew these people did not have a lot of resources.
The ability to capture all this action with good quality video that captures the intensity of the job at hand never ceases to amaze me. - I wonder how many times Dylan went up & down that cliff! Another great MORR video.
Ok Rhett…. They’re gunnin’ for ya. So let’s establish some protocols. Matt has to decide what equipment he wants on that rig. Not you, not Kaulin and certainly not peanut. Have him write down what and WHERE he wants it, to include T-shirt sizes. Come up with an inventory sheet with location. As soon as that rig returns to the yard after a job replace and reorganize everything and indicate the day you did it. NO ONE is to remove anything from the rig while on the yard without telling you they’ve done so. (See what happened there? You’re in charge😁). It might be a good idea to check it daily because someone is going to remove something while on the yard. You’re the heavy wrecker rig boss!!! Good luck my dude!
Yup, same way we do fire trucks, a list of everything, how many of them and where they live. Every day and after every job it gets checked and replenished. We list EVERYTHING right down to the pens in the glovebox.
Agree 100%. In the military, people take anything that isn't nailed down and then they carry claw hammers with them to help with the nails. Inventory what the boss tells you to have and then check it daily. I would say weld on some padlock hasps to lock things up but then someone would forget the keys...
Was unaware thaat DOGE already laid people off. This guy is a natural for writing oppressive and overcomplicated ooperational proccedures. Oh, and Marvin, MORR is not a large operation dealing with dozens of employees and the complexity.
What you found was a millipede. They are mostly found with a black tubular body, while centipedes are larger in size, have bigger antennas, and have a forked tail. While you can pick up a millipede, I wouldn't pick up a centipede.
Long story short, my 4 year old granddaughter rode my RZR 250 ft down a mountainside in Colorado (she was fine, just bumps and bruises). It happened at 1:30 PM on a Saturday. We went back at 9:00 AM the next day. It had ben ransacked and the winch stolen already.
I reckon the thieves had inside knowledge of where the truck was parked. Out of curiosity why did you not put one of those spare tires on the truck or carry a battery down from one of the guys so you could start the truck to help ? Just asking. Great job all the same. Rhett needs a new list to include the radios and more shirts. Thanks for sharing. ATB regards from the UK
@ I figured it out at the end why they didn’t grab the battery from the owners other truck. The recovered truck was a 7.3 diesel and would take two batteries to start it.
@@mikeb.7183they'll start with one battery if you disconnect the GP relay and turn off all accessories. 50⁰ is warm enough it'll start fine without the glow plugs anyway. This is assuming the one battery you have is of good quality, condition, and the engine is healthy. To clarify, these are 12v systems.

American ingenuity. That's Matt. Makes me proud to call Matt a true American Entrepeneur.Great job Matt. And everybody kept all their fingers and toes. Except your son who got a rock to his head.
I agree with you Matt. Two lane blacktop back roads are the best and most fun to drive. How about making an equipment check list for each vehicle that needs to be thoroughly inspected and signed off on, BEFORE each recovery trip! Either that or have each recovery vehicle contain its own complete equipment contents, including communication head phones.
Totally enjoyed this video. Great to see you working your brain to its max capacity. Collin is definitely a big part of the team. Enjoy seeing him grow to be (dare I say it) the guy who will keep your legacy going. Happy New Year to you!
Watching the frustration, love and patience of a father teaching his son after years of his son being the gofer brings back so many good memories of working with my grandfather as a youngin and getting yelled at for various "simple" things I should've known hahaha. I'm not much older then Collin I believe (im 27) but its still enough years older that Its funny to see from an outside perspective. Awesome job Matt and I don't mean getting the truck retrieved.
It always amazes me howuch time and effort thieves will put into stealing things. To find that truck, come back with tools, then haul it all up that steep hill .... I wish the guys on my crew worked half that hard!!!

Learned the hard way to unload the quad before getting stuck and having to use it and a chainsaw to get out. Love your show, You are lucky to have a great faintly and employees
once again the wrecker walks away flexing its muscles, it truly is an awesome capable rig, great job by the crew too, that was a heavy pull job and as always they crew conquered it, thanks for sharing
Too bad they didn't build it with REAL (hydraulic) winches instead of those toy electric winches that HF gave them...
I wish I had a dad. Your kids are so lucky to have you, Matt. You can tell how much they appreciate you from every video.
He is so great with his crew. A great family man!
@joethebumbler Hello
I hear you, man.
Marvelous and refreshing to see drama of real life situations without amplification by drama queens.
Exemplary team leadership and cooperation.
Love it!
Thanks!

yup, just problem solving. low bickering and no "sorry..."'s. A well lubricated machine when men work together in harmony.
Matt
Kaulin too!

I really appreciate and enjoy watching your episodes
!!

Appreciate the lesson. 👍
The amount of driving you guys do never ceases to amaze me. You drove at least 24 hours round trip just to recover 1 vehicle.

It's fun to watch them struggle a little and overcome the challenges a job like this throws at them.

Respect to Matt. The problem solving ability that he has, along with his engineering ability in creating that wrecker is amazing.
Incredible recovery. Matt is in way better shape than people think. Great job.
How many thousands of dollars was lost on this job?
That was an EPIC recovery, literally. Has to be a top 3 hardest recovery. Matt really is a genius that found his niche in life doing what he apparently loves and is so good at. His boys are fine youngsters who are learning tons from the old man and hopefully will follow in his footsteps.
That look like the most hardest technical recovery I've seen.
Amazing work by the whole team.
Wow.
I think a few members earned their recovery cards!
Then again, how many times do people leave that stuff abandoned for good
Wow, you ate real food. I'm always amazed at the stuff you eat at gas stations and that you're not crapping your self in the desert.
A good desert poop never hurt anybody.
I’m so impressed of you climbing up and down that slope. Amazing job.
Yes, and you didn't mention the elevation. I think some of the huffing and puffing was due to thin air.
What about the golden nugget? That was a great one as well.
At 29:27 Matt pauses because he knows that a 'farmer with a welder' and a 'tow truck guy with a welder' share many of the same qualities! 😆

I was so into this recovery. I barely noticed it was an hour long video. Great video guys keep it up.

That was the best part, rear steer boy catches rock. 😂😂😂
Old guy tip: wear eye protection. Not worth losing an eye.
What's actually terrifying is that you think that is terrifying That's ridiculous you got hit in the face with a rock calm down. I don't think you quite understand what terrifying means
Kaulin handled that like a boss. At first, I thought he got hit in the eye. They should be wearing eye protection while doing these recoveries.
That was a stone, not a rock.
Wow, in my backyard, too! .... I've been up that road many times, and I'm not sure how fast you have to go to get taken off the road like that, but... nice work, as always...

WOWWOWOWOWOWO! Incredible symmetry, patience, knowledge, skill & AWESOME Matt & Kaulin team with super video & editing & ABOVE ALL SPIRIT!!
Matt is right . The hooks that were welded to the bumper, being 12 -14 inches above the mounting point on the frame , were a lever multipling the pressure on the bumper mounts . The Farmer did a good job it was just a bad placement of the hooks for picking up the whole truck.
That’s a reunel bumper, not a homemade deal. They look nice, but I’d always preferred the warn bumper on an old truck.
This rescue is so more complicated than anyone expected and they are being true masters of their craft.
if i was working on hills like that as often as these guys, i'd probably install a fast moving winch that is only used for hiking up and down the hill. the reason is that the more physically exhausted you get, the less mental acuity you have. so having a helping hand while climbing can lighten the load on the body and help make better calls in stressed situations, especially when the air is getting a little thin...
Matt's zen in a seemingly impossible situation is unmatched.
Reminds me of my dad, real utah people.
You guys are committed. 8 hr drive to help this person out that I'm sure know one else would without charging them 3 to 5 grand to do it. You a great group of people to do what you do!

It looked like there was a spare tire in the bed of the truck. Wouldn't it be easier to swap out the front right tire off the rim before pulling it up the hill? Great job on the recovery! That was a hard job.
That's what I thought. We we don't know if the ball joint or control arms were damaged.
Spare tire could be flat not have rim on it could also they dont have locking tool for lug nuts or where it was at
This was one of Matt's best videos, and hats off to the dude who helped Matt gather his rigging.
What an incredible recovery! It's a testament to Matt's reputation that they were called in to perform that long distance job. I can't help but wonder, was the cost of the recovery justified when compared to the repair cost or scrap value of the truck?
Exactly what I was thinking.

What you found was a millipede. They are mostly found with a black tubular body, while centipedes are larger in size, have bigger antennas, and have a forked tail. While you can pick up a millipede, I wouldn't pick up a centipede.
Matt I agree. When ever I am on the road for work I f I have time I stay off the freeway.
The difference is in the name, a millipede has many more legs.
A centipede has one pair of legs per body segment. A millipede has two pair of legs per body segment.
Also centipedes are carnivorous, eating mainly insects. Millipedes are herbivorous eating decomposing plants.
*Antennae but yeah I try to stay away from centipedes. 😅

That is the exact thing I was screaming at the screen
Yer two. Go to bed please, you are drunks.
Was wondering the same, why not install the spare or battery? Not questioning Matt's judgement at all, just wanting to understand the reasoning.
