    Spinach : Steam or saute until tender .. drain off liquid if excessive .. Dress with butter, vinegar, salt and pepper to season.. sometimes a shake of red pepper flakes totally delish ! (do the same with beet greens ) chop a boiled egg and top the greens at service, for an added flavor boost a bit of crumbled bacon as well .. ( This is how we always had them when I was growing up so I learned early to love spinach and greens... Dad was a chef, this is how they fixed them for the high end menu )

      You probably have "favism" and shouldn't even look at anything in the legume family including peanuts and a few other things we don't think about. It's not an allergy. It's the lack of a specific enzyme that prevents us from digesting those things properly. I tried to go vegan and I got sick and gained about 7 lbs. Beans are not for everyone. You can try "Beano" if you really love them but why bother with so many other good foods available?

    I was delighted to find that Morton LIGHT salt has this potassium chloride that he mentions. It's cheap. I only need five light shakes spread over the entire day. Too much and my resting pulse goes up. I use it right along with a shake or so of regular "RealSalt". This stuff tastes like the best salt you have ever had, but it has about 12 trace minerals, including salt of course. It's naturally air dried and has no fake anti-caking ingredients.

    Thanks, I was looking at those Potassium supps and the % was really low and not worth it at all since we need about several thousand mg - but best to be gotten naturally. Looking into it I found that the highest superfood is Broccoli at 460mg which is even higher than sweet potato at 440mg without carbs. Squash is only 260mg. If you juice like me, I would switch from wheatgrass to Broccoli, or use both for the K2 factor. Just focusing on the Potassium aspect for now, I juice with a few things.

      Beans are part of healthy diet; they have a lot of fiber and a lot of micronutrients the only thing that you need to do is make sure that you pressure cook them. Unless one is 100% carnivore; the keto diet includes some carbohydrates just limited, and based on insulin response and blood sugar this is entirely manageable and healthier bc of these micronutrients as well. Fiber is very good as well; and meat and cheese Have no fiber. Beans; are often less processed than many forms of cheese and dairy and are arguably cleaner

    Banana is not too high in sugar, thats an urban myth. It has a lower GI value than brown rice, and many others:
    Banana = GI 48
    Brown Rice = GI 50
    Gatorade = GI 89
    Baked Potato = GI 111

      You need to do more homework. Depending on how ripe the banana is, depends on how much sugar is in it. Green bananas have less sugar but more resistant starch meaning they cannot be digested properly.
      The sugar amount gets more the older the banana gets! So, you are very very wrong!

      welshdragon2008, I guess GI 48 goes for yellow bananas, who eats green or blackened bananas anyways. Bananas are still much healthier than whatever processed food. I see kids every day eating potato chips and drinking coke why? Because bananas are high GI?

      Leo Loner yes, a baked potato has more potassium than other foods. sweet potatoes have a lower amount of potassium, but still higher than others. though it is also a starch like bananas and is a carb. one baked potato will still give you more potassium though. helped me avoid those nasty large supplement pills during chemo! literally helped save my life.

    • @fatoumfatoumeh
      @fatoumfatoumeh 7 років тому +4

      that's inspiring to hear...I personally love potatoes! even when I was low-carbing to lose weight I still included one medium baked potato (or sweet potato) a day. It's very filling and rich in other nutrients too. It didn't stall my weight loss or anything, if anything it helped curbed my appetite and eliminated my cravings for other bad carbs. Also perfect as a pre or post work out snack combined with lean protein.

    • @Kandrida
      @Kandrida 7 років тому

      Leo Loner nothing like a baked potato. absolutely love potatoes myself. I've yet to find a potato I didn't like. @fatoumfatoumeh 7 років тому

      I've been at my ideal weight for years now, but it's a struggle to maintain for me as well, I have to watch what I put in my mouth. My brother who's been underweight all his life has recently gained some weight, funnily enough, just by eating clean (in his case, he was a junk food addict and has hyperthyroidism), we even eat the same foods now...no sugar, no processed carbs, mostly whole foods. Back to potatoes, I'm really into stuffed baked potatoes, one of my favorite foods ever, I stuff it with chicken, mushrooms, spinach, cheese,. Really yummy. The only other foods I must always have in my kitchen apart from potatoes are tomatoes (it's in everything I cook) and avocados...which I love in smoothies! Also high in potassium and a great source of healthy fats and antioxidants. Spinach is great too, but I get sick of it so easily, maybe I can try a green smoothie like you mentioned...dunk the greens into my blender with my avocados, and add some frozen cantaloupe for sweetness (yet another great source of potassium, it's got more potassium than bananas from what I've read). I don't know if you've ever tried avocado milkshake, but avocado + milk + honey + ice is a delicious blend, and high in calories, very nutrient dense, you can sub with coconut milk or almond milk too if you don't drink dairy...I would make it for my brother (and myself) all the time. Everytime his weight would start to drop, I get him to drink those between meals and it really helps.

      i think people are different in putting weight on (also depending on gut bacteria). and people are also different in winter compared to summer. so maybe winter is a good time for LCHF and summer is the time where your metabolism works different (cause of lots of good sun) and one can tolerate also high carb fruits. so for me there is no one fits all nutrition. i think it is wise to check the differences between people, time of the year and also age or other conditions (like diabetes).
      good fats are definitly good for producing different hormones. i think the combination of high carbs and high fat could make a problem.
