The orientation of the twist collar is ESSENTIAL! Knob has to go up toward the top of the saw. But it tricks you into sliding it onto the spring in several different (wrong) ways. He is 100% right to push some tension on the spring and then slide the twist collar down, otherwise you will get it back together and the blade will not go all the way into the slot AND will not lock. This tiny detail stumped me for several weeks. Looked up parts diagrams. Put it together 20 times. Finally pushed the spring tighter by about 1/4" and slid the twist collard down. Wow. Just a comment a year on to thank you for posting this how-to. I needed to clean and lube the blade holder on a Parkside PSSA cordless reciprocating saw. It has a pin to hold the blade and two ball bearings to move it in and out which are held in a collar that rotates, very similar to your Bosch. I could not reassemble it correctly after many attempts and a lot of frustration. Your video points out the collar must be rotated into tension before pushing down into final position and this did the trick. Further note to anyone dealing with a stiff mechanism of this type, try cleaning with WD and then spraying a lube in without disassembling first, wish I had! Thanks again.

Thank you for giving such a clear and detailed step-by-step demonstration. Your actions showed us it is not an impossible task. Note though: it is possible that people might have merely jammed the the blade in too tight to the twist lock. In that case, they need to use strong pliers to grip hard on whatever piece of the blade they can, and pull it while continually wiggling the lock mechanism until - unexpectedly, the blade comes free.
The tension spring on mine was hidden by a bit of rust and I was having a hard time figuring out how to remove that assembly. This helped, a LOT. Thank You!
Very helpful. Understanding the ring and how to get to it is the critical action. Had to use a very small cell phone repair slot-head screwdriver to coax the ring end piece out of the groove. Reassembling the spring collar needed a tool to hold it to tension so the collar goes on correctly .
I think this is probably the easiest way. No disassembly required. Let the saw cool down. Put a drop of oil in the slot holding the broken blade. Wrap a piece of heavy tape around the locking clamp/ring. Then, wrap another piece of tape around the clamp/ring and the brace for the foot to secure the clamp in the completely open position. Start it up, and the broken piece will come right out! You can also hit the foot against the ground. That also works . Wow!! This is a modification of a genius idea from someone below.

( helpful that the cowl bracket thing is adjustable and removable on his by pushing the button on the neck section) Broke the blade off just like yours. Took it to my neighbors , and together, after several tries - Discovery. He had a tiny mechanics magnet, but very strong.Telescopic not needed. I tried placing it on the tip and no luck. But when I placed it at the top of the shiny metal twist section, and ran it against the side , moving to the tip, it pulled it right out....... I don't know how to make a video so kind of piggy backing on yours. Sorry. Thank you . Maybe when you try this , you could make a video if it works for you. I may have to try it again, I am trying to remove a couple tree stumps .... that's what old ladies do when a chain saw is too scary. Thanks C Wendel - - - Good luck and have a good day.

The blade broke off in my reciprocating saw. I used a thin super magnet to draw it out. I sprayed silicone in as soon as the blade snapped and used the magnet about an hour later when I got home.
How I removed my broken blade without disassembly of the blade holder. I have a Skill reciprocating saw. I recently broke a saw blade flush with the blade holder and could not grab the broken piece with anything I had. The blade clamping assembly was held in place with a split ring. Unfortunately I could not find my split ring pliers and after watching the video didn't look forward to disassembly and reassembly of the blade holder. So I cleaned up the blade holder and spent a few minutes studying how it worked. I noticed that the broken blade moved slightly when I activated the blade release lever. I tried shaking the saw (blade down) while activating the blade release and holding it in the release position - hoping the broken blade would drop out. But that didn't happen. I then thought of trying a thin piece of metal (round or flat) that I could slip down the broad side of the broken blade. I happened to have some 0.030 music wire that fit. Using the music wire I could get the broken sawblade to move, but it still would not come out. So I bent a 3/16 in. right angle on the end of the wire and tried again, giving the wire a slight twist, so the end of the 3/16 in. right angle would drag against the broad edge of the broken saw blade. Well that did it. The broken saw blade came out far enough so that I could grab it with a pliers. The wire used needs to be stiff, a brad or small nail may also work. For those that may have access to guitars or pianos (or friends who play) a "light A" Guitar string is about .030. Hope this helps.

While you have the revolving blade holder held open, holding towards the ground, gently pull the trigger and the broken piece will pop out with the first couple of times the mechanism moves forward and back. Took 20 seconds!!!! DON'T pull the trigger hard or you could lose your thumb.
Thanks, not sure I would want to have my finger on the blade lock ring while running the saw! I like my fingers where they are... that said, might be possible to open the blade lock and try knocking the saw on a block of wood to shake it out.

@@damnskippi3724 Try spraying with wd40 or another non-grease lubricant penetrating oil, let it set for at least 5 min to dissolve and rinse with the same or an electronic cleaner spray, may need to brush with old toothbrush or similar bristles.
@ I sprayed it with wd-40, kroil, brush it with a wire brush (rinse repeat) beat it with a(soft) punch(made sure not to mushroom the head) Is there a stopping point like a taper to the smaller pin that’s not letting me beat the bigger one out any further maybe?
remove the sp[irolock with a jewlers screwdriver. you unwind it be gentile at this point the rest of the thing comers apart. use a blade to slide the broken part out. reverse the process and you are done ..also a bit of grease were the knob turns will make blade changes eaiser...
i have this same problem but with my jigsaw, blade broke off flush and the pull up collar is not releasing the blade, this morning and even now the tips of my fingers are numb from pulling that collar back and holding it back. i do see 2 pin ends so am gonna try and see if i can remove them,

I turned and held the lock to the release position, pointed the saw down, and hit the saw on a piece of 2x4. Out popped the broken piece.
Good job off I got to see what I can tare up🤣
I tried but was unable to get lock ring off. Used a magnet to pull it out while releasing the grip of turn knob. Worked immediately

I just open the clamp, turn upside down & blow compressed air into the clamp. Takes about 10 seconds.
