i think the thing that gets me most about riverdale is that somehow, after all these years, people think the crazy decisions are just accidental bad writing. like, they think someone could come up with the dead fake brother/real dead brother gay wedding at gunpoint in front of the incest twins scene on accident??? i was in TEARS every episode. it's a masterpiece of bizarre comedy, yet it's somehow so genuine and clever at heart. riverdale was a beautiful, monstrous beast and there will never be another show like it ever again.
friendly reminder that racism and racist storylines against hispanic and latino people in the show surrounding veronica and her family are deserving of a spotlight! similar to the complaints about the "thugs" and "gangs" for Black people, hispanic (especially mexican-americans) have had to deal with that stereotype for decades now. hyram is a gang leader. so many of the gang members on the show are black AND BROWN people. so much latino racism is "you're all the same...or you're all from mexico." mexican characters are played by non-mexicans. puerto ricans are cast with non-PR actors. our oppressions and struggles are so overlooked, partly due to our homogenization. we should all talk about latino culture and community !

Unpopular take: I actually liked the last season best. It just felt like the only time the writing staff knew what they were doing. It's like there's a cosmic boomerang that sends these characters back to the 50s anytime they stray too far from the source material lol.
i diidnt mind season 7 but my biggest problem is that it did undo almost all the character development especially that of s6 and how big shifts were happening for the character's (fangs and Toni getting married, Archie and Betty getting engaged, the implication of Tabitha and Jughead being end game, Veronica basically implying she was gonna take a break from dating etc.) and honestly w that in mind i sort of hated it

Big question is which side Archie was fighting for. Not being an expert on Archie's political leanings (or lack thereof, maybe he was an apolitical militant or mercenary...a thrill-seeker who doesn't care from whom the blood flows as long as it flows), I don't feel that I can capably speculate on what Archie believes on the issue of whether or not Donbas should be part of Ukraine. He might be an avid believer in the Russian World for all we know. That said, the majority of the foreign volunteers were on the Ukrainian side, so it's more likely than not that Archie is part of a Ukrainian paramilitary unit. This, of course, raises more questions than it answers: Is the 2019 Ukrainian naval drama film 'Cherkasy' actually part of the Riverdale expanded universe? Was Archie folded into the formal Ukrainian military in 2022 along with most of the other paramilitaries? Is Archie affiliated with the Azov Brigade? Thorough investigation is necessary, ideally in the form of another hour and a half video essay.

I know she talked abot this at the start but Riverdale really does feel like a show out of time. Not in the sense it is set in the odd time, but because the show feels like it came out in 2007 not 2017. Its in the same vein as Teen Wolf and Vampire Diaries, but both of those shows ended around the time Riverdale started. This show is honestly just as crazy and unhinged as the other shows, but because its on its own in the modern landscape of media, the whole thing feels even crazier. I feel a similar way about 13 treasons why, but to me there is a very clear difference in vibes between the two shows. Both are melodramatic, but Riverdale is the fun kind of drama where its so insane you can't help but be entertained, while 13 reasons why and other shows trying to be like it like Euphoria are just... trying too hard ig.

I've only read one Archie comic in my life, and tbh the plot was weird enough to have been a riverdale plot It was called "Archie meets The Ramones" and I read it for the ramones. But like Archie and the squad are in a band and they SUCK but they're about to compete in a battle of the bands. So Sabrina Spellman shows up and gives them an old Ramones record as like a good luck charm or smth like that? Anyway the record makes them travel back in time to the late 70s where the Ramones are involved in a battle of the bands and the record Sabrina gave them is the prize and they gotta win it to get back home. So the Ramones get them into the contest and they suck in the first round to they ask the Ramones how to be good, and they like send them on a bunch of random quests that are all Ramones song references (eg they had to go to the pet semetary, hitch a ride to rockaway beach, etc) and they go back to the band like "hey we did all that stuff" and the Ramones are like "wait really? you did not have to do that we did not think you would actually do that" and theyre all sad they got messed with and walk away all dejected and the band is like "look you didnt need that stuff. you just need to go out there and know you're giving it your all bc you have rock n roll in you already" so they do that and they win the record to get home and then win the original battle of the bands. Can't speak to the accuracy of previous Archie comics, but as for the Ramones... their actual interactions with younger punk bands of the era (the pistols and the clash) involved them 1) Pulling them in through a window to actually get them to the show 2) Johnny Ramone (who i have issues with as a person tbh) giving Joe Strummer the banger advice "If you wait until you're ready, you'll be too old to get up there" and 3) giving Johnny Rotten a beer with piss in it... so I'd say "fucking with them to end up giving them good advice and support" tracks

Why did they get superpowers? Why did a magic comet hit Riverdale? Why did Hiram have beef with a child? Why did Cheryl keep Jason’s body and no one cared? Why did every teen become a drug addict (those weird straw things) and no one cared?
What got me about the ace jughead thing is that they were VERY aware during production that he was ace??? And cole sprouse said in an interview once he would have loved to play him ace, and we can say all we want about how traditionally actors don’t get a say in that, but we have evidence of THIS SAME GUY’S relationship breakdown altering the story of the show, so, no, in this case, obv he could have pushed back. But if I’m correct, following these statements, jughead had like. Sex on screen? And the concept of asexuality or even the ALLUSION to it via him not having sex explicitly just like. I know she talked abot this at the start but Riverdale really does feel like a show out of time. Not in the sense it is set in the odd time, but because the show feels like it came out in 2007 not 2017. Its in the same vein as Teen Wolf and Vampire Diaries, but both of those shows ended around the time Riverdale started. This show is honestly just as crazy and unhinged as the other shows, but because its on its own in the modern landscape of media, the whole thing feels even crazier. I feel a similar way about 13 treasons why, but to me there is a very clear difference in vibes between the two shows. Both are melodramatic, but Riverdale is the fun kind of drama where its so insane you can't help but be entertained, while 13 reasons why and other shows trying to be like it like Euphoria are just... trying too hard ig.

Respectfully disagree about magic, I think Rivervale and the superpowers plotline was when the show finally let itself depart from the boring plane of reality and transcend into ultimate unhingeness. It's beautiful.

I've only read one Archie comic in my life, and tbh the plot was weird enough to have been a riverdale plot
It was called "Archie meets The Ramones" and I read it for the ramones. But like Archie and the squad are in a band and they SUCK but they're about to compete in a battle of the bands. So Sabrina Spellman shows up and gives them an old Ramones record as like a good luck charm or smth like that? Anyway the record makes them travel back in time to the late 70s where the Ramones are involved in a battle of the bands and the record Sabrina gave them is the prize and they gotta win it to get back home. So the Ramones get them into the contest and they suck in the first round to they ask the Ramones how to be good, and they like send them on a bunch of random quests that are all Ramones song references (eg they had to go to the pet semetary, hitch a ride to rockaway beach, etc) and they go back to the band like "hey we did all that stuff" and the Ramones are like "wait really? you did not have to do that we did not think you would actually do that" and theyre all sad they got messed with and walk away all dejected and the band is like "look you didnt need that stuff. you just need to go out there and know you're giving it your all bc you have rock n roll in you already" so they do that and they win the record to get home and then win the original battle of the bands.
Can't speak to the accuracy of previous Archie comics, but as for the Ramones... their actual interactions with younger punk bands of the era (the pistols and the clash) involved them 1) Pulling them in through a window to actually get them to the show 2) Johnny Ramone (who i have issues with as a person tbh) giving Joe Strummer the banger advice "If you wait until you're ready, you'll be too old to get up there" and 3) giving Johnny Rotten a beer with piss in it... so I'd say "fucking with them to end up giving them good advice and support" tracks
also stonewall (the school) being named after stonewall (the bar) because no one died at stonewall (the school) and no one died at stonewall (the bar)
