- Hello friends! In today's video, I wanted to talk about something I do very often but have rarely talked about on this channel ... and that is bag repairs! I replaced the zipper on this damaged backpack. Sadly, many alterations for bags require fancy machinery such as a leather stitcher but when a bag is flexible like the one I have today, you can do it with your regular sewing machine! II recently found instructions on UA-cam's channels (but I can't remember whose!) to insert the small red ball on your stitch ripper into the seam you want to rip, hold the fabric taught and it is very effective. My hands have never had the strength to push cutting devices away from me and to everyone's horror I pull them towards me, a bit like you do with your blade. I'm practising the pushing approach at every opportunity, I've a long way to go yet though. Very good video, thank you so much.

Oh, thank you, I got a bag with a broken zipper from a free stack at a yard sale, so glad I got it, and it had a stain on it but that's covered already.

great tutorial. I have a similar bag by Arcteryx - I'm gonna try to fix it. They use ykk zippers... I'd like to put a high quality zipper in - are there sources, styles or brand names I should focus on, if not ykk? how does one identify size of the zipper?
Ykk is very solid 👌 Other good zippers might prove really expensive. Cheers 😊

Did the person say why they like the bag so much? I'm currently restoring some old gym bags too and adding a lining. Basically just swapping the bottom, re-enforcing handles, and adding bias tape.
Sometimes they say but others don't. Most of the time they say that they won't be able to find a bag just like that. They get used to the pockets, the size and every detail of the bag. Cheers!

Have you ever replaced a zipper on the front pocket of a backpack? I've had someone ask for my help in doing that, but I'm not sure where to start...
Hi! The front pocket can be replaced if the backpack is soft. Otherwise you'll need a special machine. I hope this helps! 😊

Oh, how I wish this video was a week earlier!! I just replaced my grandfather's backpack zipper. It would have been so much easier if I had seen this video before I did it

@@DiannaAtherton Basting? I have found the hard way that sometimes hand stitching is necessary to keep things in place, things slip easily and I sewed a collar really bad one time.
