I’m always impressed when a vocal coach is initially surprised at the first growl, and then nods approvingly by the end of the chorus: whereas most of us amateurs just look on in disbelief. 😄

When you mentioned Randy Blythe, that's who she listened to while learning to growl. She wanted to sound just like him, and if you ever listen to her heavier stuff, you'll see the connection immediately.

The version released on the album was with their previous drummer Dmitriy Kim but the rest of the band liked what their new drummer Vlad Ulasevich did with the song, thus this recording.

This song is a masterwork. The band is early King Crimson good. You aren't wrong about the ghost notes on the snare.
The vocals obviously have more variation than most! And at the end she blends the growl, the sultry moan and the belt to show she has all the space between.
Funny thing is, without the video, this track is BETTER because one isnt quite so distracted by wanting to bear her children.

Thank you for putting that disclaimer at the end of the video! I cannot even begin to count the number of "metal" vocalists who were able to produce the kind of scream and/or growl they wanted without knowing how to do it safely. Needless to say, the carrier does not last long. Once you find your "growl" on your false vocal cords it should feel comfortable and relatively low effort. Also your explanation of low volume, high effect is spot on as well. The death metal vocalists who have been doing this for decades knew this and perfected it! Awesome video, first I've seen from you and I am not a subscriber, thanks for having a good head on your shoulders!

You might just want to check out Devin Townsend with the song Kingdom (Live for EMGTv) -- it is a solo vocal performance while playing guitar to promote the EMG pickups for the guitar. I think you'll love his vocal techniques.

False chord vocals are mostly about breath control and air control or you seriously hurt yourself.
It's not expected that most vocal coaches teach or know the techniques for this, as it's probably not as common.
Experimenting with it caused me to lose my voice many times, until I found my range.
If it hurts, stop, but usually the damage is done before it hurts xD

Completely the opposite end of the vocal scale. A Japanese female band with some of Japan's best musicians backing them, The Kami Band.

This performance is a solo by the lead singer, there are 2 other girls in the band, they would be having a break while this song is being played. The lead singer was 16 at the time.

Hi Matt, I watched each of your videos, but I‘m still struggling with my mixed voice. I just want to sing high and strong, so not with headvoice or falsetto. Could you give me some tipps for it? My biggest role model is Martin Gore and I think he use mixed voice a lot to sing high ( I think he can sing up to an A4).

Is there any way to stop singing in masked head voice. I have that and it's not powerful enough for me. I hate the twangy nasally sound it has for me. I'd rather have a chesty or heady mix or just a more balanced mix. I also need to expand range anyway.

Why do content creators feel the need to show the score before the game? Or the killer during the previews? I automatically dislike any video with the reaction at the beginning. They do the same on tv. As they go to commercial they say "after the break" and then proceed to show important parts of the show that kills the suspense. I'm nobody so you can take my advice or leave it. I'm just trying to help.
