This challenge is super instructive! Everyone should take a single synth and create a song with it as a final step of study, to summarize the knowledge of the instrument. Love this videos!
I miss you, coatseller, come back. Hope everything is ok with you. I love your videos and your music. Your album sun helped me a lot during one of the worst moments of my chronic depression. I would play it on repeat all day and always made me smile. The song river, specially, since my best friend calls me river, (word play with my name Oliver, that I turned into Old River) felt like it was being directed at me somehow. I also love your personality and how you can seem so calm and collected but then comes out this unexpected, unpredictable personality full of charm that comes from knowing that’s just you without a filter, unmasked which is another thing I relate to in your videos.
Its Thanksgiving morning and I am watching this series for the first time. Im both laughing at the lyrics and inspired to go play with my synths. Awesome stuff!
Beautiful album, and though it has similar sounds, the vibe is very different. This guy is really good don't get me wrong, but I'd rather listen to plantasia.
Man, I love the SH-101! even for an (originally very cheap) simple one oscillator synth, it's still my all-time favourite mono-synth. Back in the day my first synth was a Yamaha DX21 that I dragged out of a skip, apart from one wonky key it worked perfectly. My first analogue synth though was the SH-101 that I bought for £149 from a ghetto pawnshop with my first paycheque. My first DAW was a pirate copy of OctaMED on the Amiga 600 that my Mum got me for Christmas so I'd stay out of the seedy video arcades in my hometown. I couldn't afford a Kenton Midi to CV so I bought a knock-off version for £20 out of the classified at the back of a comic book (Viz). My first Midi interface was a DIY effort I made by connecting a few wires from a 5-pin Midi cable onto a spare Amiga printer lead. And my first mixer was an old valve-driven 8-channel mixer that was most probably from the early 60s that I picked up for free from a local movie theatre that was being refurbished. With a handful of old guitar stomp boxes and a borrowed TR-909 and an MC-202 hooked up to a TB-303, I actually churned out an E.P. of Hardcore and Acid house tunes in a weekend with help from a friend that had Grade 6 Piano. I really wish I could find that cassette, before I bought a Tascam DA-20 DAT all I could afford to master on was an Akai HiFi using a bunch of TDK SA C90s that a friend stole out of Woolworths! 😂
Great song! Man, I love that Roland filter. Still my favorite analog filter of all time. It doesn't matter what synth model, Roland just has that smooth, dripping sound. Anyway, love your opening up with the vocal takes. I didn't know you were originally from the mean streets of Detroit! That was hilarious. Now that you quit the pesky day job for awhile, you need to focus on an album to put up on Bandcamp or similar sight for sale. You have serious musical chops. This song was very impressive and you were just messing around. I would love to hear what happens when you really dive deep.
Will it be possible to get a patch photo or tutorial on the sound making especially the drums? I tried to limit myself to using just one synth and this video is very inspiring. Thanks!
Very Holidayish, Nice! I bought mine in 1984 at Morey's music after seeing an ad in a comic book of someone playing the red one whilst rollerskating. I did not pay 1500.00 dollars for mine, lol....I think it was 284.00 and I still have the suede Roland strap.
@@robertsyrett1992 heh yeah I had it standing upright on a stool under the table :/. I wish someone made a USB to CV converter the size of a thumb drive.. but that might not be possible.
i like how calm and collected you are and then you just start cursing and rapping !! omg you're the man !!!
Holy fuck !! Did you just say "c*rsing" ????

i randomly clicked to that part. starting laughing my ass off hahahaha
Either you or I ate the wrong mushrooms.

Why...why did I LOVE this song so much?! Why??
Whatever. Not gonna fight it. This song rules!
heh thanks man

LMAO! The vocal performance bit was priceless! XD

Who IS this guy! I love what he’s doing!! When someone can make great music from a single humble device, they get my vote for sure.
You need to start putting these tracks on Spotify or something. Those ad libs are flames.
They are ;)
Your videos are really really great. Thanks for these high quality contents
Gives me lemon demon vibes! I love it!
this reminded me of that plantasia album from mort garson. I loved that. also you're crazy knowledgeable it's awesome

The horn sound immediately made me think of the same!!
Damn this track is fire.
This is simply brilliant. I love it!!
lyrics made me laugh
Crustaceans...
This was amazing.
I wanted to like with a smiley face, because watching your process made me laugh when you were doing the vocals.
Love it. Reminds me of Sparks.
Man, your a genius and a very talented musician! I have loved my SH101 for decades and this is the very best demonstration I have ever seen.
Getting serious Joy Division vibes with the synth and vocals on this track. Love it. Really enjoying this series! Keep up the great work.
thanks!

These one Synth song videos are great. I only which I was even this much >< as creative as you are. Great job!
Nice to watch a video of this synth making music. Most UA-cam vdeos on the SH-101 just make 'noise.'
Superb!! love it
Amazing. The singing was quite the performance!
This is makes me want to get a synth
absolute fire
😂 theres so much blood on the floor
You actually use the EXACT same keyboard I use for when I record music as well! Not really important, but it was quite a cool thing for me
Dude, I'm trying to listen and work at the same time, but your rapping is making it impossible not to LOL.
😂
lol this is great. love a bit of humour, most UA-cam musicians take themselves too seriously.
I think you’ve got a hit on your hands there.
What an absolutely perfect youtube video. Bravo!
Great results on the one synth series. You have some serious musical, lyrical and sound design chops. Well done
How do we download this song???
The link takes me to some main page. We gotta sign up and pay $$?
analogic counterpoint (the dual line with horn sound ^^) ! yeaah ! That was really really fun XD

The “WHAT?” Got me to Sub...❤️
i like you classic comic freaky style to compose and rap, love your work!
This is brilliant. Reminds me of early synth pop music and how creative its early pioneers were. Love it!
It reminds me of classical composers like Bach or similar.
How do you switch between different instruments? New with 101, also what microphone you are using? Thanks!!
Dude, you 've made a really good song! Love the vintage style synth sounds. Merry Christmas!
Have you ever tried the Roland sh 201 if so what did you think of it?
Came for the synths, stayed for the rapping :P
how are you sending and recording midi from the sh 101 into Ableton?
This is tight! Thanks for your vids man, love them! Instrumental in buying my first synth- dm12
Yes. Finish those crustaceans!
😂
this is genius
Once u accidentally pretend it’s Jonathan Davis on vocs - you can never go back
Trapped in the Christmas spirit!
Walter Carlos can be proud ! It's sounds like Clockwork Orange 3.0 Soundtrack 🍊

Didn't realize the 101 could get into these types of sounds, might have to pick up the Behringer one when it comes out.
Sh1 or pro one?? I can't decide
woah this is highly impressive. didn't know you could do so much from this
Hi, where did you source your cool laptop stand from?
Genial mi amigo! And you say you'll never be a rapper... Asylum style rap rules! And the music/melody is so creepy, I love it. Saludos!
your voice is sick af love your vids
I always think that your vocals sound weird but those sounds beautiful to me ! 😁
Have a nice day
Big Mort Garson vibes love it
Super duper innovative! Cleverly silly
what do you suggest/use as a midi to cv converter?
Omg this is Zappa meets Wendy Carlos via Ray Davies - genious

This was awesome. If you took the vocals out I swear this could be in an RPG game.
I had an original SH-101, bought it used for US$250.00 in '95. The step sequencer did not work.
This new synth is very nice! 😍😍
Definitely stay away from the egg nog 🥛🥃 🎄 love your video , crazy music
have you done a video showing how you actually record your synths into ableton?
the audio sounds so much cleaner than mine (focusrite 2i2/yamaha dx7/jx3p)
Super enjoyable!
This is amazing! do you happen to remember how that horn lead was made? that legitimately sounded amazing!
Hey what software are you using??
which audio visualizar you use for your song(which is in the end)
"Ish Christmas song " :D I'm dead. Love that :D
Very creative and fun
Definitely gonna be bumping this around Xmas time🎄
love the song
Thanks. SH-101 is a fantastic synth, 1983 rules.
How come this vid doesn't have million views?
Well if someone rings your door on christmas it ain't santa, its your local police department :D
😂🚓
This was super entertaining and silly haha
Bravo !!
What are you using for midi to CV?
Arturia Keystep lol, not the most compact, but it works.

I like your clean setup.
With such creativity I just had to sub!
Dope track reminded me of old Eminem! Are you in Toronto??? How are you getting the audio into your computer? What midi cv convertor are you using??
Thanks, I'm in Montreal. Using Audient iD 22 as interface and Arturia Keystep as MIDI-CV.
What scales do you like to use, all your songs have that same vibe.
Good
yes but where is Dm7b5?
Wow! Early Yazoo-ish... Lovely
What keyboard is that?
great stuff! what kind of midi to cv converter are you using? also, can we have a look at the patches used for the song?
thx, using the arturia keystep as the converter. I haven't captured the patches, but maybe I'll talk about them more in the future.
i wanna move to Canada ,nice Video by the way
Your stuff is underviewed for how good it is
Can’t wait for when you make one of these for the Behringer K2 after it’s released. 😻
Love this series dude! Would like to keep seeing more!
Good work man! I'm new to to channel, and it's great! Subscribed
thanks! welcome aboard.
sorry, but without tons of bells this isn't a Christmas song;-D - thank you for uploading and for missing the bells!
