In this video I go over how I composed over 200 pieces of music for my game "The Last Medic". It's a 2D pixel art precision platformer where you play as a medic in space.
My game dev handle is @sevenbluepixels on all socials.

Disappears for three years and just comes back and picks up where he left off like nothing happened what a beast 😂
Hes back just when we needed him the most (i just discovered this channel less than a week ago)
Haha, I know right! This game is so cool!
Holy shit dude, I am so glad to see you're back on UA-cam. Hope you're keeping well. You've been sorely missed my friend.
I would love to listen to the soundtrack on Bandcamp or Spotify - just make an album for every planet and a best of ;)
seriously
It's rare to be able to hear the thought process from someone who has created something so polished.
Not to be too critical, but so many videos are made like this with the end result being like a loop or a short riff.
Really cool to be able to see how the cake was made. I'm sure there are a lot of us synth hobbyists who've consider making a game, and this is really inspiring.
This is awesome, the game looks amazing and I love the music - sounds really warm and organic.
Great work!
YOU'RE BACK! : D
Damn this is so sick dude, absolutely gonna be putting this OST on repeat in my headphones for the next couple hours
By the way the game itself is fantastic, playing it right now. No 'walk in the park' for these old hands but really great, plus need I mention the music is such a joy, wow.
It's nice hearing snippets of so many things that you've written back to back. There's obviously a lot of variety and different styles, but so many of the pieces have this distinct sound that is in so much of the music you make. It's hard to describe, a kind of slightly weird, dreamy, moody and nostalgic sound.
I've missed you!
I am really a huge fan of your music. The „sun“ album and the video series you made was awesome. Big inspiration … listening to those songs when I drive to work ❤
I'm happy to see you back. The theme songs are nice and the game looks great.
I really like the concept of having a "band" setting the tone for a given section
Seeing the projects is outstanding - the simplicity and the planets as bands/moods is great. Really inspiring
Glad to see you back on UA-cam, just started game devving myself
You’re alive! 🎉
omg i've missed your videos! thank youj so much for sharing a new one. congrats on the game!!
Whoa, great to see the result of all the effort. Hugely inspiring how you’ve gone about the whole thing! The game looks great and the music really complements it!
Hey man, proud that you reached your goal! I’ve been waiting for this video!! Game looks and sounds great! Also would love a sound design video!
Wow, that was super impressive. The pixel art style and the synth soundtrack compliment each other perfectly. Loved integrating the music by having band members playing in those glass orb things. Also liked the color palettes a lot. Great work!
Seems like something I'd enjoy, went ahead and bought a copy. Looking forward to playing!
Я очень рад что вы снова выкладываете ролики на ютубе, вы одна из причин почему я начал увлекаться синтезом звука, спасибо вам большое !
So happy to see you, man. I love these tunes. Your melodies are always so tender and evocative.
Glad you’re still with us dude! Please do some vids about gear you’ve been using, I used to watch your tutorials
Hey welcome back! Your Game looks great!
Any intention of porting it to Mac OS?
Great! Regarding what you said at the end, that is why in the big studios they always start by the middle of a game and at the end of the process they create the firsts and lasts levels so those are the best of the game (visually, mechanics, sounds, etc...) This is important to give a strong impression of a game when the players start, so they stick to it... and if the ending is epic they will have great memories of the overall experience... In my game Sunpolis some of the best levels are at the end and almost no ones are playing them... :( I made the same "mistake" you are describing....
This is an absolute ton of work poured into this! If there’s ever a port to Switch or Steam for Mac, I’ll definitely check it out. Love the mechanics of the game, the art and dang all the music would be such a treat! Thanks for making this epic project and sharing it with all of us here. Would absolutely loooove another video on the sound design! Did that stay on the software side as well or did you work more with hardware for that?
This is rad; a video on the sound design would also be super interesting
This is awesome. The sounds and composition are amazing!
Hell yeah, glad to see you again. I just picked up the game, will report back once I play it!
I totally understand you on plugins vs hardware. I went through a similar thing recently, coincidentally having also worked on a game soundtrack recently (4D Golf)
I spent way too long trying to reconcile the money I've spent on hardware against the fact that it was just so much easier to adjust things in post with plugin synths.
Regardless, I play guitar/bass and some other "live" instruments, so I'm committed to recording at least some audio as part of my process. Typically I'll have at least one or two core ideas coming from audio, which I will supplement with plugins.
I'll probably end up downsizing a lot of gear and keeping my Prophet X, OP-1F, and some rotating single elektron since each of these provide me their own unique perspectives and quick inspiration.
Once I shed some excess gear, I think I'll invest in some piano lessons. I've always dug your borderline classical (to my untrained ears) approach and what it brings to your compositions.
Cheers bud! Looking forward to playing this on the Steam Deck.
Great! I missed your videos, your content is such a huge inspiration!
Like a concept album that comes with a free game :) Only half way through, so far, but really loving what I'm hearing. Simple but infectious tracks. And yet more confirmation that Repro is a top-tier, if not the best, softsynth
Good to see you back and congrats with the release.
Joining in on the chorus; so glad for a new OUaS video! I’ve missed your energy and vibe.
looking forward to the sound design video!!
So happy to see you back again. Welcome welcome. Great stuff as usual.
always loved your music, and I love 2D platformers. So stoked to play this!!!
The looks cool and very atmospheric! And thank you for such a detailed video about your composing process. Is the music somehow tied to the player's progress through the level?
Glad to see you back!
Great to see you back!
Extremely creative. Thanks for this explanation.
Great to see you back, and to be doing cool, cool shit
I absolutely dig both your music and precision platformers. Looks like a beautiful marriage, and I am going to enjoy this very much. Is there a way to access the music outside of the game?
Good to see your content again!
And thank you for the atmospheric break-downs! It's great to see and hear how you mixed the ingredients together. I'm also interested in some sound design insights 🥳
Great job! Thank you
OMFG you’re back!!!
And I was thinking of you just recently!!!
Listening to your outro music gives me a chill, like when you are seeing a dear friend after a looooong time :)
amazing work!! congratulations!!
Super inspiring stuff, thnx a lot!
We are very fortunate to see your new video.
Welcome back after a long break!
please bring back the citizen park songs
Agreed!
Absolutely beautiful 🥹. Awesome work!!!
Just bought my copy!!
Love your work always dude ❤
AMAZING MUSIC!!! I love it. Game looks awesome too. Unfortunately I have a Mac. The game is available for Windows only, right?
This was super inspirational!!
You are back!!!
You going places! Game looks smooth
You got me thinking, I want more Games made by musicians! I love the medium Games, i mean, one of my favourite games is Ocarina of Time, just because I love to only run around and listen to the music. Koji Kondo killed it on there, with the limitations of the ocarina control scheme. But also just a game where every level has an own tune, thats so cool! On each level, the musician shines. Thank you for this video
Im gonna make a game like that someday fs
man this is GOOD !
Excellent stuff!
I know I’m repeating others but I missed this channel so much!
There you are!
🧡 FINALLY 🧡
19:36 - My "Squelchy Worm" 😍
This just made my day!!!! ❤
yes! Please do one for sound design.
This guy always posts a new video when we least expect him to do so
This is amazing. What a fantastic achievement. Sincerely happy for you. Congrats!
Now for Xbox Game Pass?
Nice!
Genius
The sound - the visuals... Do They Pair? (deep cut)
The return of the king 🛐
wow...this sounds so excellent. is there a way to load that game somehow on an anbernic device?
2d platform my favourite
Nice 👍🏾
_[Obligatory “He's Back!” Message]_
u gonna release the music tho?
FINALLY
Nice work! If you could make this game available on Apple Arcade, I’m sure it would be very popular on there. My kids and I would love it!
👑
Got so excited when I saw this notification man oh man
I love your video and work, but it still shocks me until this day that a great musician had to make an entire video game to let his music be in context and useful 😂
green planet soundtrack is the best, can I get OST somewhere?
This is definitive proof you don't need that $1499 8 round-robins, 15 mic positions Kontakt library to make great music, save for every u-he synth.
Where can I just listen to the O.S.T.? :)
Especially like the D'n'B-Song at 8:00
Ah, listened through and you want to release the sound track - great!
Hardware synths are dead, long live hardware synths!
I'm not much of a gamer, but I'm digging the music. Any chance you'll publish the Soundtrack?
At the last 15 seconds you mention this, in case anyone else is wondering.
Hey! I've been a big fan of yours for a long time, and your game looks amazing. But while I REALLY hate being that guy, I need to tell you that your game is way too expensive.
I understand it took a LOT of work. I really do, I'm also working on a game for Steam. But it's hard for people to justify buying a 16 USD precision platformer when Celeste is only 10 bucks, Hades is 5, Dead Cells is 8, Pizza Tower is 10, Spelunky 2 is 8, VVVVVV is 3, Super Meat Boy is 3, etc. And most of those are indie darlings that have proven their worth and left a big legacy behind them.
I'm not saying your game is not worth 16 bucks, what I'm saying is that the market is extremely competitive, and people are really stingy when it comes to indies (yet are willing to pay 20 dollars for a skin). I believe your game deserves to be played by a lot of people, and I feel like the price is doing it a disservice.
I'm sorry if this sounds bad in any way, it's really not my intention. Your game looks cool, the movement looks fluid and dynamic, and there's hazards that I haven't seen in other games. The art is clean and calm. Not to mention the music, of course. I'd just hate to see it not getting the recognition it deserves. A price of around 5-8 USD is what I think people would pay for this sort of game. Regardless of wether you decide to follow financial advice from a random UA-cam comment or not, I wish you the best of luck!
None of the games you mention are priced as low as you say. Those might be sale prices, but not nearly the regular price. Just wait for The Last Medic to go on sale. (edit, Super Meat Boy is on sale for $2.99 right now)
Get your face in the thumbnail next time! I would of clicked a second faster 😅
Missed you!!! 🤍 from Trois-Rivières 🏙
This music is insanely good.
