  • this is my second time climbing with my new ultimate one stick and rappel kit from www.doublesteps.com. I like that I am able to cut weight drastically and climb any tree up to 40 feet. Once I get the hang of this, I can imagine it will also be much faster than other methods that I have used previously.

The greatest climb-job that I ever see.

Nice job. I have the same setup. I use 2 Nite Eze S-Biners clipped on to my girth hitch to raise my rope. This ensures my fingers stay clear of the rope when raising it.

Interesting, do you clip one on either side of the delta link?

When you figure 8 your pull-up rope, start with the carabiner end in your hand. That way you can just hook it to your bow and tie the other end to your saddle and it’ll pull rope out as you climb.

No ideal, but my suspenders are a lenght of flat climbing sling with single carabiner. Girth hitch to back-center of saddle, then over both shoulders; twist in front to adjust length; and clip into front saddle bridge. I run my bridge short. This helps keep my Madrock Safeguard descender (that is also clipped to my bridge) near my chest rather than sagging to my knees. Enjoy.

I used to do something like this for top rope solo rock climbing. I used a mini traction ascender. It would be helpful climbing after moving the stick.

My cable had the same problem. I found that the cable was stuck in between the bolts of the cam cleat. I took the bolts out one at a time until it slid past them. Good luck hunting this year.

thanks. you are right, I did that and then i removed the old cable and put a piece of aircraft cable and some really small cable clamps in below the bolts and its working really well. Good luck to you as well!

Love the harness. Maybe add Petzl Cordex or Metolius 3/4 Finger Climbing Gloves.

I will have to check that out. I have thought that gloves would certainly be helpful for controlling the descent. Thanks for the recommendations!

Man I’m looking all over Amazon for those shoulder straps, I definitely wanna put those on my saddle

I just looked and can’t find them now, maybe discontinued but they were originally marketed as ‘Tsidea molle shoulder straps’. I have a friend who bought the Tethrd shoulder straps(more like suspenders( but minimal is best in my opinion if it does the same job) good luck!

To me putting stick under rope way they recommend it loosing you height and a little speed. When you move your tether or hook it up it's offset a little as it should be. But instead of putting stick under rope just sling amsteel around tree and whip amsteel to where you want stick. Set stick and climb and repeat. I know you are new too. Just a suggestion. Also on moving tether up you can use it for a hand hold as you climb and move it up as long as you pull on it to make girth tighter. And I wouldn't use an autoblock with this setup. But up to you. If I did it would be an actual autoblock and not any kind of prussuc. Read instruction to Maddock and you'll see why.

Instead of suspenders, what I do to walk with a sagging saddle is use my lineman’s lanyard as suspenders. Just run it over my shoulders behind my neck.

You definitely want a prusik above your belay device for redundancy. You can then leave your belay device on your tether all the time. No need to take it off all the time.

I got the sterling hollowblock and tied (autoblock). Should this be above my safeguard?

@@shareTNT definitely above the safeguard. I was told that if below the safeguard it could potentially "eat" the autoblock rope and break the safeguard (if it dropped to the autoblock) and if it damaged the autoblock you'd be dropping straight to the ground. I noticed you have the triangle quick link and i have a triangle on the way. Should the rappel rope be tied on the "wide" end vs the skinny end (if it even matters, i don't know) ???? I wasn't able to find an answer for that.

@@MexicanMovie thanks for the comment, I have put the autoblock above the safeguard since this video and it works great. Regarding the delta quick link: I have mine tied on the "short" section for no particular reason, it does work well to allow the gate to open just fine and I don't think there is a wrong way to tie your scaffold knot on as long as you can screw the gate open. I am coming to this conclusion because the manufacturer rates this link at 20-40kN, depending on which variation you have. The design makes it less susceptible to side loading, so I've heard. I think it's overkill for what we are doing, no matter how you slice the pie. Good luck this year and thanks for the sub!

well at least you kept your hand by your hip when defending. I see too many with there hand right at the top were the rope is going in,
nice.... rig too bad all the platforms are out of stock right now.

Thanks, I actually got a sterling hollowblock as a brake/backup and it works good. I hate to hear that they are sold out right now but I am sure they will be back in stock soon.

Does that big top step get in the way of your knees when you're standing on the lower steps?

Been using climbing stands for 40 years and have been watching a lot of videos on saddle hunting. I see the saddle setup is a lot less weight than lugging a climber around the woods, but it looks to be a lot slower than a climber to get up a tree. So my question is, do you get faster the more you practice with the saddle or is it normally slower to get up the tree than a climber? I’m considering an EWO ultimate platform with the aider and the one stick method.

    • @gordonneverdies
      @gordonneverdies 8 місяців тому +1

Yeah it gets a lot faster and easier. The first time used the one stick method to hunt I was agitated and sweating my butt off. I was always worried about forgetting something or making a big mistake, ruining the sit. You'll know you've practiced enough when you can do it in the dark calmly and with confidence. There's also a lot of little gear tweaks you'll learn along the way that will make life easier.

7 or 8 feet. I was able to climb a tree that I couldn't get my arms around and still had tag end

I think tethrd now has suspenders that look pretty cool, I will say that when I take the straps down while in the tree hunting, I have to buckle the chest strap around my right lineman loop to keep it out of the way of long recurve limbs, also so it won't dangle. I think those suspenders might be worth a look, I don't know much about them but it seems minimal which I like if it works
