The engines really are great on these. I have had one since 2006. Still runs nice. Only thing I had to change was the starter last year

ive got one from 2009 the previous owner shifted without the clutch and never did a oil change (it went wide open with no coolant in the thing as well) and ok yeah it jumps into gear all the time but honestly thats pretty good

Got to agree with the front suspension being rock solid, and spacers on the rear. The chain really does stretch after an hour or so. I was going to fit a chain tensioner but will upgrade the chain too after watching this vid. The rest I can live with 👍🏼

2 years later. Still the best bang for the buck. Great advice. Still relevant. The only thing I can add is #6 remove the Governor and gear it for you desired top speed. Governors rob power.
That's what gear ratios are for. Well Done. Thank you sir.
    Side note:
China has upped there game on the CDI box and voltage regulators. The new ones do not fail like the older ones. Super cheep on Amazon. And worth it.

I bought a frame for my boy.
Not even regretting it one bit, the only thing I regret is not having more time with him and the frame to build up.
Ebay has been a savior in this project, specially for the rear swing arm
When your searching for parts I found that its easier using other keywords instead of taotao atv for example, I used "coolster atv parts"
    "Chinese atv parts"
    Or rear axel.
Searching for parts is hard because I don't really have a lot of trust in some random parts website..

Thanks. My neighbor gave me one of these, pretty much just like yours. It sit for over two years so it needs a few things. Carb leaks out of everything that has a seam and the gas tank was comically dry since what gas that was left in it leaked into the oil over the years. Left sitting with the fuel on. Otherwise, I know the 4 wheeler and I know it was running good when he bought a bigger one and this one got abandoned. I've ordered a carb and a new seat since the original seat literally disintegrated. The plastic frame crumbled to dust. The only thing left was the seat cover draped over the bike. lol Your links to upgrades is what I was looking for. Thanks again.

I just installed those shocks you recommended.. i was a bit skeptical on how much of a difference they would make but, you were 100% right! It handles bumps and branches like they are not there.. also when my son turns fast and sharp, it doesn't lift the rear wheel. I ordered the sprocket and chain but have not gotten them yet.. as far as the spacers.. what i did was just put the rear wheels on inside out, and with the off set of the wheels it spaced them out.. true if the rear tires need air you have to fill them from the inside but with all the open area back there that's no problem at all and spaced them out about 2 inches.
Also since the factory carburetor needle has no adjustment notches i used a grinding wheel to taper the tip of the needle to allow more fuel. It helps eliminate the full throttle bog.. next i will drill out the mixture screw and fine tune it..
    Great upgrade tips brother!

you are 100% on the money sir. Have one my self and am on my way to upgrading to this level for my son as well. The suspension is absolutely a major concern. Found my self flat out agreeing with what your saying and nodding my head as if we were sitting talking together hahaha. These can be great. And they get the little ones riding! just need about $100 to $300 and there awesome.... for what they are.
GREAT VIDEO. I also have spent countless hours looking for solutions for the best price. This man has condensed hours of research into a great video. Like he said, if you get one of these then for the love of your child do these upgrades!

I found a tao Tao 125 and a 150cc that had hardly been used on offer up, got both for 250 each. They had sat all winter so gas went bad and clogged the carbs. The 150 had popped off the chain because they had the wrong chain entirely. I got a new chain for the 150, new gas and clean carbs and they run really good for what I need.

I picked up an adult sized quad like this that needed work. For the seat replacement I ended up using a waterproof lomo hi viz backpack stuffed full of old pillows, which I then strapped to the frame where the seat goes. I had to fasten a bit of rigid plastic to the frame under it to support it kinda like a seat pan. But it looks decent (it’s luminous hi viz yellow and shiny -while the plastics are red). Its big cushy and supportive and holds up well to mud and heavy riders, way better than the original seat probably would. tbh I’m more worried about the quad frame snapping than anything else

Great video!! I have had two 2018 TaoTao Tforce for over a year now and so far i haven't had a single issue with the chain on neither one, probably because the newest models come with chain tensioner. Front suspension is not that bad on these little quads (Compared to my Yamaha YFZ450). But definitely buying wheel spacers for the rear tires and new handle bars. I got to say Chinese manufacturers have finally stepped up their game. I have some videos of the ATVs on my channel. Regards,

I thought the same thing about the shocks, but i was bored and like to tinker with stuff so i ordered the shocks he recommended and installed them on my sons 2019 tao tao coolster 125cc ATV.. IT MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. i was shocked.. it goes over bumps and branches like a Cadillac. You don't even feel them. It is smoother over bumps then my 2016 Can Am 1000R ATV. It honestly has me looking into upgrading my ATV. It really made that much of s difference.
For the rear wheel spacers, try flipping them and putting the rear wheels on inside out.. with the offset it puts them out about 2 inches.. you just have to air them up when needed from the inside, but there is PLENTY of room to do so

We bought a 125 Coolster from Wise Choice Equipment in Tiffin Ohio three years ago. It has been beat to death, but still running. You need to have some mechanical ablility to own one of these. They require maintenance and repair a lot. But they are fun. Ours weighs twenty pounds more than original due to me having to reinforce the frame multiple times,.

Best thing I ever did was buy a pair of the 2007 Honda Trx 250 ex's for five grand two years ago and with that optional sport clutch. Stuck brand new quadboss front an rear tires for both from eBay for 350.00 for all eight tires another great investment for them, I recently replaced the rear axle bearings and stuck sloted drum pads on it and they touch them back breaks and they lock up good and tight! They're 12 an 11 years old let me tell ya!! them quads are tanks general maintenance keeps them running great! They literally ride them every day. Nice video the things we do for our kids lol. Next month I'm replacing the entire front ends on both bushings, tie rods, & ball joints that's gonna kill me lol but after that they're going to be so solid.

Great job on the video. People talk crap because they think thier opinion matters. I like videos like this. People sharing information to help. I agree with all of those mods. I also think that jetting the carb is something to look at. Mine ran lean and was very easy to make too rich. A little trial and error got mine running real smooth. The carbs on those things are fine, but need fine tuning. Those quads also respond well to exhaust.

A friend of mine had one of these as his first bike (long story). He beet the crap out of it here’s the faults we found. The frame does have a tendency to crack at some stress points. Front and rear of the frame by the engine mounts. We also did find out the chain truly was junk, I swear I took three links out of it every time we rode it. We did gusset the frame and weld on it wear it began to crack and never had a problem with it. Plastic and drive train held up fine and the rear (as long as it’s 4 bolt) is 4/110 Honda pattern. The only reason he got rid of was to trade it for a bigger bike, the bike ran and preformed fine.

I have an idea on how you can solve the rear suspension problem. Take out the spring, replacing it with a temporary one. Compress the spring as much as you can (using spring compression kit or using a vise) and leave it like so for some time. Its rate will decrease over time. Not sure how long that would take but you could test it periodically. My guess is two weeks of full compression time would soften it quite noticeably.

Also, the wiring harness, CDI box, rectifier, etc. are crappy. If you have problems, don’t try to piece it together, just buy a new kit and replace it all for $30 bucks. Also, understand that the China quad tires aren’t very reliable.

I have the 150 dx2 and out of the box, I can see that the handle bar and suspension issue needs to be addressed. Thanks for all your suggestions. I will look into doing most as I am sure the 150 dx2 can be modified similarly.

I ended up buying 2 of the 150 cc versions of this atv after watching your video and immediatly installed the shocks that you have, installed unibear o-ring chains and the 2 inch wheel spacers, which was a little tough since the studs were too short. Had to find bolts and file down the hub a little to make it fit.. But they are now great little 4-wheelers. Thanks for the great info and fun to watch video

Hey I just wanted to say thanks man. I just bought my son a used tao tao 125cc "Hummer edition" youth ATV with 18" tires in the front and 19" in the back. Look up the Hummer edition if you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm 6'5 and I can ride this thing. Anyway. Thanks a ton the very first thing in doing outside of standard maintenance is changing the handle bars. My son got on it and that's the first thing he said was it was hard to turn.

LOL 8 years mines running great, I rienforced the rear end supports up to 350lbs and i tow 10 to 15' tree poles around 6 to 10 inch or better rounds lol up hill poping willys some times, with a rienfoced rack on the back towing with a strap i weigh 140lbs and i give my family rides on the rack up grades/hills easy in low! I love my coolster qiye 125 lol some mods but legit price for what i needed it 800$ do keep a welder and rienforce your rear end and put a chain pully tensioner on, it helps the chain not strech so much... i could tow 250lb carpet out of my house in a roll lol and a strap, for giving rides put a pellow on the rack lol when rienforced! Its going i put many hours on it 30 oil changes if i remember going on 9/20/2017.

My son's "utility" coolster 110 the front shocks are actually pretty good. The rear might as well been solid mounted. I pulled the front off of one like his in a junkyard and put on the back, made it tons better.
Been looking for affordable wheel spacers for years, his has a weird 3 lug pattern.
Anyways he's been running the dog piss out of his for years now and aint had any problems. Not bad for a used $100 4 wheeler.

My quad on my channel has an acceptable handlebars and I weigh 120 pounds but I think my front shocks are worn out and too soft 😂 the rear is the same way. my quad was built in 2009, and the chain hasn't stretched any. My front brakes suck but you can rebuild them! My rear breaks awesome still. Engine in my quad worn out, needs an new head and piston. I made my front brakes not suck by upgrading to a hydraulic clutch cylinder, I bought 2 and a hydraulic splitter. I'll leave a link for that so you can upgrade your front brakes. I bought the lines and attachments from lowes. Amazing vid on this!

Good video. The model in your video is very similar to one called the 125G Cheetah here in Canada and the front suspension is indeed a full shock/spring setup and is very responsive and spongy. The reasoning for the 27" handlebars is because they are youth ATV's and not meant for adults anyway. Many kids might not have the extended reach to deal with incredibly wider bars and conversely, have a chance at losing control of the entire bar over rough terrain. When you're mentioning chains stretching doing wheelies with adult weight on them. The chain is a good upgrade but originals are not meant for wheelies or adults lets be fair. The chains on any of the ATV's I deal with stretch a few mm only (thats millimeters) only after some heavy use in the first week or so, tighten them up and al is good. As a matter of fact I sell hardly any chains. Most are on their 4th year with the same chain and people that need them are people that leave the ATV in the elements and wonder why it has snapped after 4 years of rain or snow. I have to laugh at the people that ask me if they are for adults just because they are unwilling to spend an extra $600 on a full size 150-250cc that can handle adults. The Rear shocks should have a 6 or 7 step adjustable collar that are fully functional for adjusting tension. They do up here at least. You're correct on the engine. Out of 400_ small 110cc models sold I have had one blow smoke a week in and 2 with slight oil or air leaks around the Cyl head. They are awesome. Excellent upgrade on the wheel spacing as well

The suspension is the best modification. The stock set up would auto flip my taotap.
The bad news is that motor is a copy with the exception that all the bearings are soft metal and the out put shaft bearing and seal will be the first to fail at about 40hrs and then the oil will leak out.
I can't believe you still have the 60mph rear sprocket on it. I'd change that for a 45 tooth unit before the chain jumps and grenades the case. On and on. Ive owned my quad for 8 or 9 yrs now. Really junk but cheap.

I just received a chinese quad as my retirement gift from my family. I was told that the front breaks are only for parking, and that I should always use the rear brakes for stopping. It took me a minute to get use to not using it as a front brake, as I use to ride motorcycles. I agree that they do suck if you try to use them as such, but that is what I was told that they really are. I live in Germany, so it is allowed to drive them on the streets. I am definitely am having fun with that. I just want to know what are your thoughts on the front brakes.

    • @PlushEnduro
      @PlushEnduro  6 років тому +1

Hello George, My thoughts on the front brakes are that they are not very good! I really only brought them up because if buying one of these for a child, you would have to make sure that the child knew that they would need to use the rear break in an emergency situation. You are allowed to drive these on the streets in Germany? That's awesome! Speaking of Germany, we will be in Freiburg next week for a few days. We are very excited.

I just bought a 2019 RPS 125CC Raider 7 and was wondering if the Shocks would fit it? It's exactly like the Coolster Kodiak 125 utility wheeler. Also, It has 3 bolt hubs on it and not 4 bolt hubs so the wheel spacers will not fit. I cannot seem to locate any decent 3 bolt 2" spacers. Any suggestions? Could I swap out the 3 bolt for 4 bolt hubs without compromising the integrity of anything?

  • @slept-on_SP

I own a little chinabike 200cc enduro and I agree that frickn chain needs to get swapped out. Same goes for any fasteners that are used to secure the main drive shaft. My chain became so loose, I believe it jumped off the teeth with enough force to essentially lock itself up within the space around the rear wheel and sprocket. I dodged a bullet though because it happened at low speed (10-15mph) but still a little scary imagining what it would have done at higher speeds.

Love this video. You say the front aftermarket shocks were 320mm (12.5 inches) - it looks like the stock shocks on our 125cc coolster are 11 or 11.5 inches middle of the eye to middle of eye, which would be about 270 or 275mm. Will the 320 work even if the stock was less than 320mm? No travel issues, no max length issues? Just want to ask a maybe obvious question before ordering. Thanks!
