Mazdaspeed 3 - BNR S5 Turbo - Base Map Pulls (First Drive After Winter Storage)

  • In this video we take the Mazdaspeed 3 out for a spin after it had been sitting in the garage all winter. It's always amazing how rowdy this car feels when I don't drive it for a while, and even though it's just on a base map hitting about 17 psi of boost, it still puts a massive smile on my face. So far the BNR S5 Turbo is absolutely fantastic. It does feel quite a bit more laggy than the S4, but it makes up for it big time in the higher rpm's. Stay tuned as we slowly dial in the tune, and start spraying additional fuel from the 6th port aux fuel injection kit. Enjoy the video! Please like, share, and subscribe :)

    • @WannabeTuners
      @WannabeTuners  3 роки тому +1

      Haha thanks man! The code pops up once and a while because of the aftermarket downpipe that I've got installed on the car. I actually polished the manifold myself by hand. I started with 180 grit sand paper, worked my way up to 2000 grit, then finalized with Mother's Mag Aluminum Polish. For the grits higher than 180, I recommend wet sanding with soapy water in a bowl, because it pretty much eliminates dust in the air and the job can be done indoors :)

    I love your car and I like hanging out with you on the you tupe. I want what you got minus the aux fuel. Sexy beast though. Tried to do the under pipe but I bought a cst4 and it doesn't clock. What did you take think about the jbr over the top lot bc that's what I have coming now. How far do I have to go before the over the top piping becomes the bottleneck?. So horny for zoom zoom but I want to be kind to my engine.

    • @WannabeTuners
      @WannabeTuners  Рік тому

      Awesome thanks man. I don't think it will be a bottle neck per say because the piping is 2.5 inches all around if I'm not mistaken. However it is a pretty tight fit in between the rad support and engine from what I remember.

    Doing a lot of.. Interesting driving, here. 😂 Amazing way of putting it. I'm still rocking the ko4, but I bought a bnr s4, going to install in the spring.
    I am interested in tuning boost by gear, ad well. I'll have to ask Justin if he could do that for me.

    • @WannabeTuners
      @WannabeTuners  2 роки тому +1

      It's definitely doable, but one thing with the BNR S3's and S4's is that they tend to boost creep in cold weather, which is why an external wastegate is a good idea. When I had the S4, I limited peak throttle opening and ran 0 WGDC in the higher RPM range to limit boost creep in colder temps. In the summer there was no boost creep at all so I was able to run the throttle fully open and add WGDC.

    • @sonofnothing
      @sonofnothing 2 роки тому

      @@WannabeTuners thanks for that! I love in NY and it's very cold in winter, as well. I run my 93 tune with snow tires, so I have no problem running either A) a different map for winter months, or B) not going into boost. I hardly ever go WOT when the roads are salty and I have snow tires on, anyway.
      So, it's possible to tune each gear differently without some form of electronic controller? I don't really know how that works. I know the stock map limits boost in 1st and 2nd, so I'm assuming the Guru, Justin Brasil can manage heh

    • @WannabeTuners
      @WannabeTuners  2 роки тому +1

      @@sonofnothing Oh yes I am sure he will know how to help you with that. I've always just limited throttle and load targets for 1st and 2nd gear which has helped a lot with traction.

    • @sonofnothing
      @sonofnothing 2 роки тому

      @@WannabeTuners yep! 93 fuel, ko4, I had traction problems in 3rd with Goodyear eagle f1 summer tires. Re71s helped A LOT. I can hook 2nd now. But the throttle feathering is tough for launching. Like you said, once boost take off, you almost have to back off yo maintain traction. (I love your humbleness in your driving abilities, and how scary your car is, even just 400hp. I agree 100%!!)
