Great work! So happy to see that your build was successful. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome, glad to see you self tuning. I might need to connect with you. I will be tuning both my cars!
Nice men! amazing work! i can't wait for see the final tune! regards!!!
Thanks man!
Happy the car is running
I love your videos dude. Y’all are the bomb. Great info in here
How is the 6th port holding up? You liking it? What do you think it would max out around. I’m making 485whp but really disliking the methanol hassle
You guys are great
Love it man!
Thanks dude!
Nice music choice on the engine bay overview! The rest of the content too, Mazdaspeed!
Thank You! The beauty of creation ;)
Omfg, I cannot wait til my fbo, SP63 stage 1 long block, cst4 tuned on 93 is done 😍
Running the same but portinjection on cst4
Haha is it at Sp63 now? Mine is there and I cannot wait! Same exact set up as you except I’m running at ETS TMIC….until next year lol
Congrats, just finished mine 30psi on CST5/ 6 port. These motors have such a unique sound
That's fantastic dude, have u dyno'd the car with those settings?
@@WannabeTuners haven't done it yet. Planning on it
I totally agree with the gen 1 trans, when I had my speed 3 I always beat myself up for not being perfect off the line, my buddy's gen 2 was a lot easier felt like the 1st to 2nd ratio wasn't as big of a change
Put some Rain guards on the Windows. Not to pricy and they give the speed's a nice look. I used amazon ones on my Gen 2 and had on there for year and a half with no issues at all. Car is coming along nicely. Keep at it.
Great video! I have a question if you don’t mind answering. So I’m currently tuning my new speed on bnr s3 and currently have no issue and I understand most of the tuning. In the figure I plan on going bt with aux fueling and my question is how do you go about turning down the oem idc for aux fueling? What’s your process of doing this, do you rescale the maf for when the 6th port kicks in or do you just lean out the afr using the fuel tables? Thanks!
Thanks man! Give me a direct message on Instagram and we can talk about it :)
I like how you know to put your hand back on the steering wheel after shifting 😂 I don't trust my speed either
🤣 that's hilarious
DUDE! you guys killed it with this build. It's absolutely insane. Hey off topic, RUST on rear quarter panel :( how would you tackle?
Thanks man! I suppose it depends on how bad the rust is. If it's excessive u could try going the bondo route, however I'm not a body work guy lol. If it's minor like mine, I use sandpaper and color matched touch up paint. I use double sided tape in between the rear fenders and bumper cover to prevent full on contact in the areas closest to the wheels where the rust likes to originate.
@@WannabeTuners True! I wouldn't have any other choice! Rust blegh:[
It would be nice to see you guys expand and experiment with other parts of the car! Maybe do some suspension and body modz or custom headliners! Lovely work nevertheless😁
Absolutely beautiful engine. I want to go the same route engine wise. Cars are an expensive hobby though lol
Yeah they really are, that's why it's always good to built it right the first time so we don't over spend lol
@@WannabeTuners my basement may look like autozone but it's worth that extra little extra time and concern 🤣
Awesome bro!! Hey just wondering isn't 8 degrees super conservative that's like stock?? Im running 17timimg 22psi (s4 v1 limited by tuner and maf going upgrade soon lol). I run 12~afr too been running that 100,000 plus miles lol. As long as no knock turn up that timing.. knock is the warning there trouble in data logs.
Oh yes 8 degrees is quite conservative and with pump gas we will always be limited by the knock threshold. It's always a balancing act between boost and timing. A richer AFR will keep things cooler to keep knock at bay.
@@WannabeTuners For sure bro!! I learned how to tune on the Cpe standback I want to upgrade to the AP and learn to tune myself like your doing. My tune with the standback still spot on but im limited to 22psi cause never got the big maf flash from Cpe. With the standback you just do data logs and adjust the maf, timeing etc tables by small percentages over and over avoiding the knock till everything is dialed in. Is same on AP?
Keep watching these past videos. Waiting for more content..
Hopefully we can get some more content out soon :)
Can u assist with self tuning the speed 3s? I’m looking to self tune mines soon! Starting with my very first base map once it’s built and put together.. any tips to get started on a base map for the 3.5” intakes?
Yes I can definitely help, but self tuning takes a lot of patience and understanding. I've been doing it on my own car for a long time now, so I can definitely help. Give me a direct message on Instagram :)
Hey, I know this isn't directly related to the content of this video but do you remember what your piston ring gaps are for your top and bottom compression rings? Just curious, I'm building mine and I'm wondering what other people are running
I'm doing mine as well, I went. 022 on the 1st and second ring
My machine shop went with what Manley recommended which was 0.019" on both upper and lower. Hopefully I won't have any issues, but seeing as how the stock ring gaps are even smaller, I think I will be fine lol
@@WannabeTuners yeah I have mahle power pack pistons. I guess it all depends on the end power goal. I'm going for 600whp.
YAAAASSSSSS FINALLY
Also I'm building 2 cars on my channel!
Good stuff man, u can contact us on Instagram or email us at wannabetuners@gmail . com
Here I am at 30psi on 92octane 🤣🤣🤣 36psi on e30. Turn that baby up! Shit starts to get fun past 30psi! Also afr is targeting 11.5 on my build. On a stock engine we were targeting 11.3. Will is tuning mine.
Hell yeah man, it's so much fun, can't wait!
@@WannabeTuners gap those plugs down too... .022. Mine are .020 with no issues at 30+psi. And don't be afraid to lean it out a little more target 11.5. You have good pistons. Can't wait to see you turn it up and sprinkle some more timing in.
@@gimmethecarkeys Thanks man, I'll definitely gap them a little lower on my next set of plugs, it's already a lot of fun as is, so anything more is just spoiling me haha
I want to maintain the Tmic location rather than going fmic. But do you think the full race exhaust will fit with an aftermarket tmic.
I'm not sure if there would be clearance issues or not
Id say 10 degrees and 28-30psi would be the perfect spot for you.
Gen 2 1st 2nd 3rd and gen won 4th and 5th. I have a second gen trans in my shop I want to try this myself. I'm also interested in the tank mix, I run a e mix.
That would be interesting. I wonder what it would be like shifting from a gen 2 3rd gear, into a gen 1 4th gear
I can't tell exactly what 25PSI on the CS IM and the full race ex mani means in therm of air flow, but I guess around 400-410g/s of air (it's hard to tell since you have to cap the MAF cal when running 5th/6th port injection). So with 94OCT gas you can't go too far up in timing, at 350-370g/s of air depending on BATs I usually aim for 10 degrees at 6000rpm and 11-11.2AFR (that's on stock IM and stock ex mani is about 26-26.5PSI). I'm currently tuning a friend on CS IM and EM and at 340g/s of air he's at 20PSI at 6000rpm, so yeah I guess you at 25PSI you must be at 400-ish g/s so 8 degrees of timing is ok at 6k.
Yeah I won't push it too hard on pump gas, I'll let the alcohol mix take care of that 😀
Hi, great video. What compression ratio of your engine?
Hey thanks CR is 9.5:1
@@WannabeTuners thank you for answer, do you think that CR with 11:1 high? For a duratec turbo?
@@sata684I'm honestly not sure, I've heard that it helps with low load driving conditions, but of course you will not require as much boost to make power. I've read of some people having success with higher compression ratios, but have also read about people having issues with loss of compression. I would ask Speed Performance about it to be sure :)
@@WannabeTuners thank you for this, I'm assembling a duratec turbo, with forged parts manufactured entirely here in Brazil 🇧🇷 I'll call you on Instagram to show you my project, if you want to see it and of course.
@@sata684 That's awesome man, that'll be something very special!
Where do you buy your intank methanol from and how much is it per gallon?
I buy it locally at a local retail store chain (Canadian Tire) and it's about $15 cad per gallon
I actually just sat down to start editing
There's a fluttering sound under max boost load/high rpm, and you're running rich. Signs of a boost leak? My ms3 does the same thing. What's your opinion on that fluttering sound at max boost load? I've been watching your videos for a long time man, what a journey. Congrats!
Thanks man! The fluttering sound I think you are hearing is the sound of the EWG opening and closing very quickly as it is being controlled by the boost control solenoid
Ive been running cst5 at 22psi with 14 ignition timing and using 12gph combined on direct port meth...
now i swapped nozzles, and im 36gph combined, I'm going to be increasing boost to 26psi and possibly ignition also...
tuning it right now and being extremely careful with afrs, injector duty cycles. If only these cars came port, would've been so much easier
I agree! We'd be able to get more fuel simply by upgrading injectors. I've been dialing things up slowly as well. This year I've been playing with 94 pump only until I upgrade and refresh the transmission. Currently I'm at 26-27 psi up top with about 12 degrees of timing at 7k+ rpm. It loves the cooler weather and knock isn't an issue at this point. With 6th port, the IDC on the stock DI system is about 90% and I'm only pulsing the AUX injectors at 2.1 milliseconds, so I've got lots of room for more fuel. Can't wait to upgrade the clutch and start turning things up on an in tank methanol mix :)
@WannabeTuners im running e30 mix currently with about 65% methanol blend in the aux tank.. currently running 14 degree of timing at 7k rpms but its set where the timing keeps increasing as roms increases
@@zakura70jr Are u a Gen 1 or Gen 2 speed? I remember reading somewhere that the Gen 2's received an update to be able tune for higher rev limits. Unfortunately with my Gen 1, I can only tune ignition timing and wastegate duty cycle to 7000 rpm, and boost targets to 7500 rpm. The only way I can see ignition timing being increased past 7k rpm, is if the achieved load after 7k rpm falls lower to the regions of the table where timing is higher. Is this what you are referring to?
@WannabeTuners im a gen 1 but i dont really go to 7k i have my rev and flat foot set at 6700k and in reference to the load falloff after 7k i hva eno knowledge of that what i referred to is i watched another video someguy in great detailed explained spark and timing and how cars increase timing as rpms increase so i compared to the cobb ots tunes and made my own where i start around 9 degrees at 3.5k and at 6.5-7k im at 14 degrees as more conservative timing. I would go higher but idk i feel safe where im at currently
@@zakura70jr 9 degrees seems a bit high at 3500 rpm no? But yes as rpm increases, timing should increase, but as load increases, timing should decrease. With the Gen 1 ECU the timing table is Accesstuner only goes to 7k rpm. So with my rev limit set to 7500 rpm, the same timing values from the 7k column will be used ;)
I'm running on 100 octane pump gas at 18psi with stock k04.
Beauty
I cant wait to get my car back running. Running a lean code to the point where its barely able to idle. Cant find any vacuum leaks anywhere
Have u tried wiggling the MAF sensor connector wires to see if that improves the idle? Sometimes the electrical pins at the connector start to get loose around the wire strands and the connector needs to be de-pinned to allow u to clamp down with some needle nose pliers on the pins where they encompass the strands of wire to make better electrical contact.
@@WannabeTuners no i have not. I can try that tomorrow.
@@WannabeTuners so i checked it out and maf sensor is good. However i looked at the fuel rail pressure for it and the pressures are around 900 to 1000 during idle. Any idea what would cause high pressures at idle?
@@sov3nged Possibly an issue with the metering valve within the high pressure fuel pump. How does fuel rail pressure look above idle? And does fuel rail pressure slowly increase after turning the engine off and having the ignition in the ON position?
@@WannabeTuners fuel pressure bounces around 1.6k and with koeo the pressure says 1.6k
Do you think i’d be okay running this turbo with a basic pistons and rods build
Definitely, but on the stock cylinder head, most tuners don't recommend revving past 7300 rpm. I went with Supertech 55 lbs valve springs which are a mild upgrade over stock. This allows me to rev to 7800 rpm safely. Currently I only rev out to 7500 rpm to have a margin of safety. This higher rev limit will allow us to make better use of the larger laggier turbo, as the power curve will be shifted into the higher rpm regions. Another thing you could do is some mild porting on the cylinder head to help with flow and possibly turbocharger response. If you're going into the engine to upgrade the pistons and rods, you might as well do the BSD, ARP main studs, and at least ARP L19 head studs. However with just a piston and rod combo, running a BNR S5 will definitely work, but again the power curve will be shifted to the right. So if you aren't increasing the rev limit much, there's a higher chance that you might bog when shifting into the next gear if you get a lot of wheel spin as you might land at a lower rpm where the turbo cannot spool back up as quick :)
@@WannabeTuners it has Manley h tuff rods , manley 88mm pistons , bsd , new oem crank arp L19 headstuds with a cosmetic headgasket
@@WannabeTunersi was worried about the lag in the lower end but I want to shoot for 500 ish just can’t decide between turbo’s
Would an awd transmission swap be possible…?
It's definitely possible, I just haven't heard too much about it
33:28 could you use the rev limiter from the AP so you could just "kiss" the wot box limiter?
It's always recommended to cut the ignition system instead of the stock injectors anytime u run aux fuel, because if u use the stock ECU to limit revs or flat foot shift via stock injector cut, the engine can continue to generate power from the aux fuel injectors continuing to spray, as they are controlled independently of the stock ECU.
@@WannabeTuners where do you learn these things?!?!
@@mortysmith5556 🤣 A lot of reading, questions, and obsession
I have a few questions about the bnrS5 turbo and oil and coolant lines if you can help out
Sure man what's up?
Did you have to get a bung welded on the oil pan for the oil drain from the turbo smart opr ? And second question is for coolant lines I can’t seem to fit the L shaped line that came with the turbo kit from edgeautosport how did you get yours to fit
@@tbraceworks1308 I just used a nut and fitting adapter from Summit Racing. You can see exactly what we did in our engine build video. I should have welded a bung into the oil pan, as now I have a slight oil sweat from that connection to the pan, so I might have to drop the pan to resolve it at some point. I'll probably get the a -4 AN male fitting welded to the pan to make for a much easier repair in the future. As for the coolant line, which one are u referring to?
@@WannabeTuners ohhhh okay I can see the fitting now and the coolant line closest to the firewall and sorry one more question and where did you get the red filter that’s on the oil feed line turbo smart opr I can’t find it anywhere
@@tbraceworks1308 I got it directly from their website: forcedperformance.shop/products/fp-4-an-inline-oil-filter?variant=35852711887009

Hellll yeeeaahhhh!
I have a 2010 mps that had its original trans, and now it's been replaced with a gen Juan trans. There's not much difference with gearing on the low side it's top end that's different.
Yeah it'll be more noticeable up top for sure and help with traction slightly in the lower gears.
Should be gapped to .22 for your set up
No intercooler?
Oh yes I forgot to mention that, I've got a Treadstone TR8
Cool and I didn't see any piping I was wondering is it a gen one thing or just your set up
@@kevinseifrid8021 Yea it's got JBR Under Route piping, so all that's required is to clock the turbos compressor housing downwards. There's quite a bit of adjustability with the piping which is nice to ensure no rubbing.
Hell yeah that's sweet I didn't know u could do that I just got a regular front mount set up
@@kevinseifrid8021 Awesome man, the only reason I went with the under route setup was because of clearance issues that I had with over the top piping, but another benefit to under route piping I think is reduced heat soak in the piping
Yo i need your guys help but theres no way to contact you, and you guys would help very much with my build so if you can please give me something to contact you guys! Thank you!!
Wow never knew you could do intank meth as a fuel option. Always thought it had to be in a cell
In low concentration, usually no more than 2 gallons per tank, it really increases the octane of the fuel right on par to e85 mixes!
@@WannabeTuners wow thats wild. I also may consider a guardian angel in the future, got a bit of damage to my engine while running an Aem meth kit on my car with no failsafe, all poorly ran by the previous owner.
