We drilled this takedown in my BJJ class last week. Leads nicely into siide control then Americana, straight armbar or kimura. Awesome, simple takedown.
Being a hs wrestler/ boxed bro’s and friends going up was best fight training ever: Try to avoid fight but if necessary use your opponents aggression /weight against them. Kinda like “go with their flow” Cheers
Nice body lock. We're trained to step over, with outside leg as they're falling, and land in full mount where you can base out with your hands or control his arms. If you land in side control with his arm around your neck, the opponent's natural reaction is to head lock you. Oss!
If the guy headlocks you from the bottom that is a free armbar and or mount anyways :) I do like the idea of going straight to mount. Nothing ever wrong with getting a more dominant position. Oss!
The crazy thing is, everyone knows how important wrestling is to fighting. Wrestling is the most effective background to have for fighting. Yet videos like this don’t get much attention, And I think it’s because lessons like this go over peoples heads. It requires years of hard grappling to understand the value of hip-in body locks and throws. Most people, it’s just uncomfortable.. Wrestling capability is an investment most people don’t make, but it’s an investment that those who find success do. Very few, just like the views on this video, Will make that investment.
Understandable, they try and recreate the full feel of a street fight by having people dress in street clothes. I took the class a while back and thought it was strange until they explained it.
I did a BJJ seminar with Royce Gracie, and one thing that he told our opponent to do is smack us if our face was showing... not even kidding. When we did double-unders, we were more linear with the opponent; we pushed with our forehead, flared our elbows to keep their arms up, then slipped our arms down to their waist and then and pulled them in to complete the takedown.
This is more of a Greco/Freestyle wrestling takedown rather than BJJ. If you really wanted to, you could inflict a ton of damage with the TD the way Tim demonstrated it. My teammate literally knocked a dude out at a college wrestling tournament… can’t imagine if the same TD were performed on concrete to someone untrained
@@chris98wallace oh I don't doubt that! I guess this takedown can be manipulated to your preference; you want more defense but a softer takedown, do it Royce's way. If you want to smack the earth with a dude, but take the risk of a strike or two, do it your way. Let's also be real, ALL takedowns in BJJ are adapted from either wrestling or judo (I'm a judoka myself) so I'll take any input from a fellow stand-up grappler.
IDK, I wrestled for decades, I'm 60 now so I probably don't know anything anymore but "taking his hips away" isn't going to happen because his hips are stronger than your body lock arms, unless you get to his side with that body lock, and yes there is an AMAZING technique that will guarantee you easily getting to his side with that body lock intact AND incredibly tight - - - send me cash and I'll tell you, but actually I'm old and don't need money so I"ll just tell you - - - - -
A headlock gives you phenomenal leverage to get below their hips and suplex them while their arm is protecting your head .... or you can use a gentler option to trip them backwards, mount then elbow. Lots of options.
The whole "never go to the ground" thing should be amended to: never go to the ground in a bottom position. Tim lands in side control and can very easily pop back up to his feet if necessary; going to the ground and trying to play around in guard should never be a choice you make, but a strong wrestler landing in top position can very easily disengage if necessary.
Should you be teaching this technique to 19 year olds? Don’t think they’re too dangerous? Imma have Lance ask about it next time you’re on his show about doing drugs for selfish reasons.
"shane may i use you and your marvelous hair?"
I didnt expect shane to actually step up with hair that marvelous
Line of the day:
"He always makes it weird...He made eye contact with me on the ground." 😂😂😂
Christopher Mafnas that was hilarious
Something wrong with that?
Did it wiggle a bit?

The fact that there are physically superior people getting training means all of us have to lol. They are bigger and better trained, lets get on this
That‘s why you gotta have a good sucker punch & 50 yard dash #streetjesus
@@gabrielsanchez1182 Yep, BMF all day.........
But im scared!!!!!
Agreed! More people need to learn self defense like this, myself included.
@TillmanLabs co yea until they have a gun too🤦🏻♂️

@Arturo Fernandez bjj < wrestling. wrestling is GOAT .
This has always been my favorite takedown low risk for injury and very effective

Stay bussy guys.
Thanks man, love the videos.

Way more than 2 bucko!

Ive been looking for this takedown for so long i love this one
That room probably smells like onions
lmao
Pigs & onions
Stepping on the mat in jeans would be a reason to get a death stare followed by a fireman's carry from my coach. Nonetheless, great job TK.

They are training for the street, It's not a sport. It must be as real as possible.
They also bite and do dirty stuff while they are on the ground
Fork4 Soup I’m sure that would go well for your coach if he tried it on Tim Kennedy.
Dan Penia exactly, this is fighting, not pyjama wrasslin’
@@Borninafire oh okay, didn't mean to crack a joke and give you a UTI. Mr. Let me balls up in defense for someone else so I can get some shine.
Really cool takedown. Wish I saw it two days ago when I found myself in a neutral position with a rather aggressive “client”
Tim. Es un excelente exponente de sus habilidades y buen Marín. En la UFC fue espectacular. Mis respetos
His eye contact comment was priceless. 😂
Why did youtube recommand me this video..I see Habib made me meet Tim..tkd family

Tim needs to order some Origin Jeans
Nice techniques but man, what kind of a weird dresscode is that for a grappling class? 😆
Amazing!
Thanks
Tim's a beast
Lol guy is teaching in blue jeans. All american jujitsu should be taught this way.
I’m guessing is the combatives/self defense class. Gotta be able to pull this off in street clothes then.
Where is this dojo located?
Nice, I like it!
I took a dude down in my Army days and landed on my wrist. I handled the guy but had a sprained wrist for like a month and a half after...
Me too, minus the Army days. Same thing happened.
Ungh!
@Matthew Anthony why is that how your guy likes it?
@Matthew Anthony so is that how your BF likes it? I'm genuinely curious...
Who's that cool guy posing with his hat backwards is what I wanna know
That's weird. Playback slowed to .25x speed when Shane walked on screen.
I like this takedown. It's fxxking rad.
Guys with hairy forearms are always tough
Yeah but how do you get the guy off his stool?
I’d pay top dollar for that hair 😂
If i tried that i would probably get put in a head lock
Fall to either side of the legs would be my advice, if you’re in a nice side control or mount they can’t choke you.
Headlock breaks usually when you slam him into the ground.

God he makes that look so simple...
It is if you train everyday. They made us drill this for months as a BJJ white belt.
A variety of things?
My wife's mother fights like that. She is an evil Sea Monster.
quite scary fighting a guy that’ll throw you on your back in a second
Why they both wearing jeans though
I always get thrown when I try these
Jeans?
A VARIETY of things . . . ;)

I'm going bald, so I'd love that hair!

Shot to the waist instead of the legs gets the same effect
If didn't know who Tim Kennedy was there's no way I would trust this video. That collard shirt and jeans is the ultimate Mcdojo uniform
Anyone know the jeans Tim’s wearing? Things are stretch & sexy
So is your mom.
I think they are 5.11 jeans. The back pocket design seems to match. They are both wearing them. Probably different fits.
The place looks like b-team's hq
Body holds= less legal action against you

Why is everyone in jeans?
coz you train as you fight? stupid concept imo.

Lol, never realized they do look similar.

why is everyone in street clothes lol
Because most likely you will be getting into a street fight in street clothes, not in a Gi or a rash guard.
