watching this as a wrestler, I've drilled these types of takedowns for years, which is the beauty of wrestling. I want to try Jiu Jitsu now to supplement my grappling, and become a more well-rounded fighter.
I will be 45 in a few days and I will begin a journey into the world of jiu jitsu a few days after that. I appreciate the advice you gave and the words of the professor about being humble
You’ll be good, I started in my forties and although it was near impossible at first you’ll be amazed at how much you progress if you stick with it. Just don’t let your ego and pride get the better of you - it’s ok to take breaks, it’s ok to say no to rolls, it’s ok just to drill for a session. There’ll be kids there half your age that will tie you in knots but give it some time and you’ll be able to hold your own.
I love this Tim, I have trained Kick Boxing for 2 years, and then Jiu-Jitsu for one year, long time, and even being a female it makes me strong minded again just by watching you guys, I just want to go back to training again, please do more videos like this, God Bless!
So dope, I joined Gracie Humaita in California 5 months ago and am on my way to a 3rd degree white belt. Glad to learn under the same Master Royler Gracie!
That is awesome! Thank you very much! The whole series like that would be great - each lesson with new moves similar to this one, but new moves. I loved the way Tim explains the energy of movement - the snap. This is so important! Thank you again, guys!
This was awesome, thank you. I’d ilke to see a “day in the life of” Tim Kennedy video. You do so many different things; training, teaching, consulting, etc. I am curious how you plan and fit all that in your schedule.
Watching this video makes me want to train again and especially with people like this!! I absolutely cannot wait for COVID to become manageable enough for me to get back to the grind!
Everyone I know who got the shot keeps getting COVID, the others did not had it once or not at all. What's your experience with people around you? Watch out for Monkey Pox coming to a theater near you.✌
You should totally make one of these for knife defense! I recently had an encounter that quickly escalated and the guy drew 2 knives. It was a homeless guy that tried to break into a couple cars outside our mma gym. Luckily there was 4 of us and he wasn’t advancing. I watched some videos you made about knife defense but something in depth would be amazing! Huge fan, hope to come train with you sometime in Texas! Cheers!!!
I got my black belt from a Humaita school in New Jersey, but have not really trained all that much the last few years. I'd love to go visit Austin, and drop in for a class...
Just put in some info to start in a BJJ class local. I hope my daughter will be into it when she gets older but either way I want to start early. She's already a little fighter and outdoor gal at 19 months old. So I think she will grasp it and I want it to he a daddy daughter thing and daddy needs to get in shape first so she doesn't keep beating me up. Haha. Always Tim thank you and much much love and respect brother. True American beast! Fighter, hunter, respectful and amazing family man. I definitely look up to ya man.
I love the snapdown. I sometimes do a double collar tie (Thai clinch) and snapdown. I know that's not proper wrestling, but I figure if I use that in a street situation, it sets me up to throw knees before doing the snapdown. No worries of being double legged.
Literally all they’d have to do is raise up their heads, I know it’s not that simple when those people are that good, but that the base of not getting choked by that specific submission during a double leg is just easing your head
@@twitchmain4192 It's different when you're trying to protect your chin from strikes. I favor the tackle but it's a good idea to shrug your shoulders after and get a hand up around the neck area. Guillotines are crazy fast on the receiving end. It's much harder to sprawl out of the tackle which is why I like it over the traditional double leg.
I need to get into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu I use to do karate/kickboxing about 16 years ago I did it lightly and won like two small karate competitions and just did some basic kickboxing in class matches. I wasn't and advance black let or kickboxing world champion. I was pretty decent because I didn't mind sparring against anyone win or loose it made me better. Didn't believe in ground fighting until I started watching MMA and I been in love with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu every since even though I never took the class. That will change
While rolling last week got guillotined twice doing this before seeing this video while trying to tackle. Avoiding the guillotine is harder than it looks, even if you're expecting it. I think getting your hand in your neck in the vicinity to jam your neck area in case the opponent redirects your head into the guillotine.
Now I'm convinced I need to study this art in-depth, plus it looks so fun lol I'd say more fun than shooting. Are a lot of guys self-conscious about their feet when they start out?
Do it man, it definitely compliments firearms training especially if someone rushes you and ties up before you can draw your weapon. Plus it will get you in great shape too.
Hey Tim love your videos, you are an inspiring human being! I would love to know more about your nutrition and how are to give your body enough kalories to burn during your workouts.. you must have an insane energie output! Thanks a lot. Best greetings from Germany!
My bucket list includes a weekend of training with Tim Kennedy!!!!
@@joew6695 Having been training 14 years in BJJ, I will make him work for it!!!!!!!!
@@davew9374 I don’t think you realize that Kennedy is a literal hairy ogre that loves violence and has been trained to kill
He is in Austin right?
If you only had a week to live and hence the bucket list..... Why do anything to shorten the time alive?
Me too, didn’t realize he was such a good teacher until I seen this vid
Your enthusiasm is infectious.
Hopefully thats the only thing infecting the class right now

You teach jiu-jitsu to a wrestler and you have a killer. We have some college wrestlers in our gym and they are absolute killers.
Completely agree, the combination is absolutely deadly
I’m in the exact same boat. Wrestler my whole life, did some boxing and kick boxing, want to add BJJ to just round everything out.
@@ibtgb2 make sure you do it Trey, you won't regret it 👌 Oss!
@@raymondrocco6251 you are right, I meant a more well rounded grappler specifically, since wrestling doesn't teach submissions.
Tim Kennedy shows up in my notifications, I stop everything and watch. Stand up American warrior.
Captain America is Tim Kennedy's bitch.
@@b.aleman8401 Tim Kennedy is captain America....
That is a room full of killers, wow. Look at all those belts. Love your energy Tim!
Your professor's little detail on dipping the shoulder to finish the choke is so helpful. I'm 6'4" but my arms aren't super long so thank you!

More Jitz Tim! Love these Jiu Jitsu vids!
Loved it, more fighting whether its jiu-jitsu, wrestling or striking. Simple techniques with little details in there
EPISODE 2 PLEASE. I’ll even pay to watch it. Very good series to continue, Please if you see this.
After watching, I think im ready. Im going to instigate a fight now.
Hey man! That's not how this works!
Lmaooo facts
😂😂😂
Yes, that’s it.
That’s the spirit, what’s the point in training if you can’t whoop some people who don’t train, go find ur target brutha break some faces

Excellent instruction. Thank you!
I can only take Captain America Kennedy serious when he is rocking a fake mustache.
I want to see your take on how to mix striking and grappling for real-life situations.
Tim is a legend and a straight up hero! Impossible not to root for him in life and...Yoel def wasted/bought time! ;-)

I got to train with Paulo a month ago he stopped in to the Gracie Humaita academy I train at. Awesome dude and he shared great knowledge 🤘🏻

I love Tim's enthusiasm. Gets me excited to get back into training.
Good to see Terry's Jiu-Jitsu has improved 🥋
This series is great. Would love to see more BJJ/Wrestling stuff which also addresses the threat of punches and how to prevent that from bottom
Que lindo ver você Tim e todos em ação!!

Here in Germany, there are not many BJJ-Dojos 😕

ROCKIN THE GENTLEMAN’S ART❤️
Great video! Thank you
Kennedy reminds me of that old joke.....how do you know there’s an American in the room? He’ll tell you
"Can I do a real snap down?"
"Go for it"
🤣 fuck yeah
I wished we had a gym near us in Eastern Kentucky. I would love this.

Saw the long tab, stayed for the video thanks for your service brother.
After watching this I feel prepared to tackle any tricky situation as long as it involves a 65+ years old aggressor with no fighting skills.
Love it; light-compliant-pummeling!
Damn, I miss this...can't wait for gyms to open in Ontario again!
it's the b-team gym!
I Learned this Snap Down go behind Day 1 Middle school Wrestling. Cool to see it here.
Great video. Looks like a fun school!!
Brooo! You're a legend man! I hope you keep this shit coming and growing your channel! Can't believe it took me so long to find this.
We should get my JR high wrestling couch to teach the snap down, Tim has always liked to hear himself talk IMO

This is great to see, meanwhile in the UK Jiu Jitsu gyms still closed
It’s a joke

Love this video. Hope there are more to come
Love the vids Tim, can we get some more No Gi / Self Defense scenario ones too!? Keep up the good work.

hey i know its a simple video but would you do a video on stretching before jiu jitsu
This How to Fight series has been so great
Can you give us a rundown on different types of martial arts and what a beginner should look for when choosing what path to go down?
I am certainly not an expert but I believe the elite gravitate towards jiu-jitsu, boxing and wrestling as a base.
That snap the head into the shoulder to extend the arm is a game changer for my gator arms.
That was pretty cool Mr. Kennedy. :)
Great video and awesome techniques @Tim Kennedy!
I just got home a little while ago from a no gi bjj class with a little boxing mixed in. Let's just say I got the pain part down pat.
