I saw an audiologist 3 months ago on the NHS and he fitted me with a pair of Oticon hearing aids that play pink noise, white noise and I can link it up to my iPhone to listen to relaxing music. My favourite is the pink noise as it’s SO soothing and relaxing ( it’s the sound of the waves on the ocean) it’s honestly been brilliant at distracting me from the roaring sound from my tinnitus and I’m noticing it less and less now and not having to wear the hearing aids all day.
Can you please tell me how to get this treatment on the NHS. I have tinnitus and all they gave me was a basic hearing aid which is not helping. Thank you.
@@carolpageler8124 firstly I went to my Gp who referred me to see the ENT consultant and they sent me to the audiologist. I’d definitely start by asking your dr for a referral to ENT. I’m not sure if it may be a little different with your situation as you say they gave you a hearing aid. My hearing was tested and it’s perfect and said what I’m hearing is the electrical pulses in my brain. I know they treat people who have tinnitus because of hearing loss slightly different as it’s for a different cause but I definitely think it’s worth asking for a referral and I hope they can get you sorted with the same as me x

Verapamil is effective for me in preventing migraines, but unfortunately no help with T. Also tried Nortriptyline. I’ve been to the UCI office mentioned. Everyone is different though. They seem to feel through experience that it is helpful to think of the two as related issues. I hope the study shows good results. Every little percent of people it might help is a win.

All of this is great, but we need more incisive research, which acts on cells and nerves. New drugs and new devices. We need better exams capable of seeing cells and smaller structures.
Hair cells aren't really critical neural hyperactivity in the auditory brain is. The Susan shore device is treating that. Something that could regenerate hair cells could probably cure hearing loss but not tinnitus.
You're absolutely right! Advances in research and technology are crucial for developing more effective treatments for conditions like tinnitus. Better understanding at the cellular and nerve level, along with new drugs and devices, could lead to significant improvements in diagnosis and treatment options.
Hi Obi, currently there is no cure for tinnitus, but there are real treatments that can help people tremendously, we see it every day. It is possible to reduce tinnitus and improve quality of life, that much is true.

It's best to follow your ENT doctor's advice, as they are familiar with your specific condition and medical history. Generally, metronidazole is not known to exacerbate tinnitus, but if you have concerns, discuss them with your doctor before starting the medication.
