As I understand it from watching ENT physicians on YT talk about Tinnitus, the phantom sound is not a disease in and of itself. Rather, it is a symptom of another disorder. Usually, the #1 problem that causes T is hearing loss. There can be a problem with hearing in a certain frequency range and the brain tries to compensate by "filling in the gaps" with phantom sounds. Thus the ringing, whooshing, howling, growling that we all know...and hate!
I'm excited there are new treatments like the Lenire and the Michigan Tinnitus device that are coming online to potentially offer some relief to tinnitus sufferers! That said, spending $3-5K out of pocket for something that may or may not work is a big gamble. I wish there was more data on the type of Tinnitus sufferer that would be helped the most by these new devices.
That way, the patient could make a more informed decision on whether to buy a device or go a different direction in their Tinnitus treatment.

I also tried Lenire. I did the full one hour a day (in two thirty minute sessions) for a few weeks and I didn't see any change whatsoever. When I realized that the metric for "success" is completely subjective (a one or two increment improvement on some arbitrary scale that can't be qualified), I decided to stop. I was unable to return them and they cost me $5K.

Hi Doc, Been Diagnosed sensorineural deafness with tinnitus. Is there any cure for this condition? Whenever I am resting or in a sleeping state, ringing starts on both ears. If I sleep on the left, the left ear produces sounds, and vice versa.

A Naturapath took me off all dairy products about 40 years ago and the tinnitus gradually went in a matter of weeks. It only comes back if I ingest dairy again and this can be difficult in a world of dairy foods.

Why is FDA approval even needed for a device that plays sound thru headphones and applies pulses to your tongue?? And why is there no returns/refunds? sketchy at best.

After years, I finally figured out my tinnitus is made significantly worse by doing exercise involving some neck muscular compression such as boxing or pull ups. I should have known this earlier as it started when I started boxing (just in the gym not combat). I find that if I listen to podcasts or YT’s I can push the 14k hiss into the background. I have some high frequency hearing loss but doesn’t bother me.

Been using it for 12 weeks. One of the issues is the program runs for so long, how much of any improvement you see is due to the device or natural habituation. I know for certain I can only do the device 30 minutes a day, if I do the recommended 1 hour it makes things worse. It also quite frequently changes the tones I hear, and not always in a good way. Its a great relaxation tool, and I think in that manner it works, but at least for me it's been unimpressive.

I used this device for 6 months on 2022, and visited Dublin to buy it. After 2 years I can say, that no effect at all for me, and company Neuromod didn't response for my questions when I asked - do they offer me something more or not (change device settings may be). And After 2 years After device using I have my tinnitus, good headphones and remember this very sad music (you will listen to only one music composition on replay every day)

Since the test was with sound-only, then sound plus stimulus, I wonder why the test didn't include stimulus-only, first, as well, then sound plus stimulus.
Further, Inventor-sponsored or manufacturer-sponsored research should always be taken skeptically, until confirmed independently.

Elevating hearing care standards again! Great initiative, looking forward to what this best practices initiative will produce. Lenire does seem to show promise and I also look forward to what a more widespread rollout will teach us. I loved Dr Cook's intervention in another segment about how activating a sound therapy function on a hearing aid is a last step rather than a go-to move in tinnitus treatment. I think it's great to have this option but maybe it should be unlocked when you can prove adapted tinnitus training or something, and not just available to anybody.
