Thank you - what a great choice! Perfect timing for me to. These funk/R&D hits are so much fun to play, just got Superstition down. To anyone new to this channel, you're in the right place. I looked through a bunch of online tutorials for other songs (All Blues, Pretzel Logic, ...), and I found Jon's to be the most accurate, and very well taught.
thanks for this and love your funk lesson videos! listening to 'Higher Ground' closer and the first chord sounds like it might be Eb7#9 (the hendrix chord in Eb) so it's got the minor 3rd up top, you got that right, but it's not just a minor chord, it's got both major & minor 3rds giving that super bluesy flavor! also in other lessons you've taught 'the riff' too, might be helpful to include that (the turnaround of the main progression). appreciate it as always! your videos have allowed our band to onboard funk tunes, especially Stevie Wonder tunes much quicker thanks to your breakdowns. 🎶
I LOVE your videos! For me it would be helpful to maybe spend a few minutes talking about tone settings. I struggle with that. Thanks. You're my go to when learning complicated songs!
I just found your channel after watching the Fender Play Live lesson on the E Major Pentatonic last night and hit the subscribe. I really appreciate this content. Also, I love the Tele. I play a new AP II Deluxe and am really into this genre. Your technique is mesmerizing and looks effortless and I want to establish a little of that in my playing. Thank you!
Dig it! I'm wrestling a toddler and I'm trying to figure out how to tranpose this into a more classic acoustic blues. As it seems to me, that it kind of easily moves to an E, G, A blues riff. And I've seen it played that way a bunch as well (even the RHCP). But then trying to keep to your turnarounds? What would the chords be then? Cheers!
@@jonmaclennan Oh wow... hrmm... let me drill down on this, sir. As well as the daddy stuff, I'm a farmer and we're on the cusp of planting season. I didn't even see this reply until now. I feel foolish. I might be able to get something set up this week. I have to figure out what's available for this type of lesson my iPad. Cheers, man! Be safe and well.
@@PatrickFaySeattle Sounds great. It's easy I can meet you on Skype, Facetime, Zoom whatever is convenient for you and you can pay for lessons via paypal or venmo. Happy to help while we are at home for the next couple weeks!
Mean no disrespect, just trying to help. It is boring to explain for 4 minutes the same riff and than making it half of the video, which is three chords, instead of focusing on the chords that make the song different...
I would say he probably did that cuz that’s not the key it’s played in on the record, and if you’re playing with a vocalist who only knows it in the recordings key it’ll feel very different to them. It may be easier for us on instruments. But the vocalist basically gets to say what goes cuz of physical constraints.

Great job. I could use one time all the way through with you singing and playing the lead. Showing the lead in more detail would also help. Thanks.

Why not just do it in G?

why not just not play it?
come on
I couldn't make it through your lesson because of all the ads. Without a skip option. Enough. Will never open your videos again.
