Excellent playing. That driving beat is a very exciting. This was the B side to Hey Joe, a great opener for things to come for the Hendrix. Great stuff!
After many years of watching your wonderful tutorials, I finally feel compelled to post. I always considered Hendrix to be a little beyond my reach and abilities. This video has inspired me to try this one. Thank you for all of your great work and patience.
Love this tune from Jimi-it has a driving and powerful beat. Sounds great even as a solo guitar. Also love your Strat. Clean and elegant lines. Cheers!
While stone free is a relatively simple song (relatively) it is hard to get down. I think I’ve been trying to nail it for best part of 30 years but the impact it has on the rest of your playing is incredible!!! Like you say the stab and then ability to articulate the riff while chugging on is fantastic
I like how this lesson was more for ppl who’ve been plying long enuf to already know enuf stuff so it got right to yhe point….most lessons im like got it” after a minute & i fast forward to the next part….u we’re boom, boom, boom, & I like it that way…thx, def gonna check out more of ur channel
Man that was great to see you play Hendrix like that, amazing. In the past 10 years I have watched and learned from you, I rarely see you play the Strat on songs. I remember the first time you posted the video you did of Red House by Hendrix, fantastic.
..as a pretty top shelf guitar player in my own wright ...( not to boast .. I only say that to make a point )...most of this stuff I can play ....that aside...I love watching this guy ...he's definitely got something special going on ....
Awesome lesson, I love this song, and saw a lot of tutorials, but yours is fantastic. I really found it difficult to determine if when the "That's why" section starts he plays a major or minor chord. Initially, I played an A major, but I saw a lot of guitarists playing an A minor chord. Anyway, this song is amazing the live version on Live at Royal Albert Hall bootleg contains one of the best Hendrix solos in my opinion, 4-5 minutes of improvisation, followed by a drum solo and then another solo guitar part. AWESOME!!! Many thanks for this video
Where did this guy come from? Fantastic lesson! Guy really knows the song, and is very good at imparting the crucial stuff that makes it easy to learn. Love Hendrix, love Stone Free -- studio versions and live Would have liked maybe a better look at the soloing, but I appreciate for some Jimi stuff you should just wing it, the way he did.
I found a version of this, on UA-cam, titled "Stone Free - Live At The Fillmore East" about 4 or 5 years ago. I cannot find it on an album, but I do have a full length copy of that old video. I was able to find a newer video, of just the solo, from a video called "Jimi Hendrix Solo - Stone Free at fillmore east (Illusion's)". I have listened to a lot of Hendrix but I think that the solo recorded on that track is just friggin mind blowing. I wish I could have seen that go down, live. Thanks for this lesson!
There is a live version from the Royal Albert Hall which has one of the greatest solos ever recorded, driving and moves through about 5 or 6 parts, each distinctive, but always taking the solo further and further. I'm guessing the Fillmore East concert was similar. The Albert Hall version was on a CD called The Hendrix Concerts, released in the late 80s. Here's a link to that version. ua-cam.com/video/Bbk04809Cos/v-deo.html
Do you have any tips on how to play his barre chords with the thumb if you have small hands? I can fret the bass notes with the thumb easily but i can't hold the chord with the rest of the fingers
I see its where the lick for killing in the name of came from with alterations totally different sound but that bend is the hammer on from it. Tom Morello. Btw You check out gary moores hendrix tributes? Hes got some of the original guys with him. I like it quite a bit
I tuned to a live Hendrix recording. But if you're asking how far down, I don't know -- and I don't need to know. I just used my ears, I tuned my low E string to Jimi's low E string and then tuned all the rest of the strings from there. I have no idea what that low note is and I don't really care. I hope that helps.
Excellent playing. That driving beat is a very exciting. This was the B side to Hey Joe, a great opener for things to come for the Hendrix. Great stuff!

Best guitar lessons on UA-cam, JJ! I love and appreciate your attention to detail. Such a great song.
Excellent lesson! Your lessons are such a treasure. I’ve learned so much. I sincerely hope you come back to UA-cam someday.
Appreciate it Mr. James almost to 60 realize the older the more i figured out Jimi was a special player , singer , just freak
Man, a new release is kind of like Christmas. Thanks again for making a dark time in history a lot brighter.
This amazing illustration of one of Jimi’s classics just goes to prove that one things for sure .....” there will never be another “ JMH
Great stuff.
Love this tune from Jimi-it has a driving and powerful beat. Sounds great even as a solo guitar. Also love your Strat. Clean and elegant lines. Cheers!
Funky, Psychedelic, and some of your stinging vibrato thrown in for good measure...wonderful as always✌😎✌

Hendrix is STILL the best
Awesome Lesson! Well done, great tone! TY!
Great lesson, awesome playing! Thank you so much!
how in the hell jimi could sing and play so well at the same time hurts my head
Well, he talked more than he sang, but still, it's impressive. :)
I can't talk and type at the same time, much less play guitar and sing :D
He was carrying the melody somehow as well
Thank you! No rip offs on your channel. Ignore the dummies and Rock On!
Nice lesson. Every bit of that song is great, right down to the closing F note.
..as a pretty top shelf guitar player in my own wright ...( not to boast .. I only say that to make a point )...most of this stuff I can play ....that aside...I love watching this guy ...he's definitely got something special going on ....
Thanks for the lesson, i m pick up my guitar, and try that, it very cool, Thanks James
Tremendous lesson, cleverly deciphered, explained superbly.

Jimi played on the chitlin circuit with so many amazing rhythm players, thats where that skill came from
Absolutely the best lessons. Thank you!
And the more i appreciate a good rythum track always knew would veer off ye soloing
Where did this guy come from? Fantastic lesson!

I saw the story about the donations to Blessings in a Backpack. You Bills fans are the best!
Player Strat. Nice. I have Polar White one.
Good Luck. Cool sign off.
You Got it DUDE!
Thank you, thank you
A great lesson, as always. Do you still use your Peavy? I think i will buy a peavy, too. Which Settings do you typical use?
Do you have time to do anything else. It takes me a couple of days to get one of these down.
James I’ve never seen you with a Strat!
Dude. I've probably posted a couple hundred videos with a Strat.
James James first I’ve seen I’m new to your channel Love the Lessons!

Try looking for guitars with necks that aren’t so chunky.
@@jamesjames9275 I have a yamaha pacifca 112v which has a nice thin neck and I can't do it for the life of me.
You need a Dean Custom Shop ML!
I see its where the lick for killing in the name of came from with alterations totally different sound but that bend is the hammer on from it. Tom Morello. Btw You check out gary moores hendrix tributes? Hes got some of the original guys with him. I like it quite a bit
that one chord also sounds like the "foxy Lady" chord
that's why they call it the Jimi Hendrix chord.
Nice. But you left out the second 2 harmonics in the intro.
Keep em coming.
To my ears, it sounds like it starts off with E harm, D harm, then G harm, high E harm...
I didn't leave them out. I'm doing the original studio version, not the re-recording.
Thank ya much
Is it bad that I’m trying to learn on an acoustic guitar?
Not at all😊
"Good luck" is right. Yikes!😶
Not sure what you're tuning down to....
The peoples tuning. E flat
Do you have the tabs ?
i got the same issue my cream white strat dont stay in tune as good as my robin's egg blue one can ..
its just the nature of the beast....try blocking the bridge
Locking tuners.
Your Mustang is the same colour as your guitar
