At 4:03 the paper filter is coming away from the filter holder. Moccamaster's tip is to wet the filter. When you do, the filter sticks to the sides of the filter holder and also prevents fine grounds of coffee from making it between the filter paper and filter holder and down into the pot. Also, the spray arm used to have just flat holes drilled into it. Later they were each made slightly cone shaped. Some feel this helps wet the grounds more evenly. Once you get the Moccamaster figured out, the main thing to focus on is playing with your grinder setting. That's the biggest flavor changer in a system that otherwise gets everything just about perfect. If a little too harsh, grind a little more coarse, and try changing in tiny increments until it's perfect.
I have a Moccamaster KGB that I've used since 2012. I still love it and see no reason to buy another, My family always comes over and asks for some of that perfect coffee.
I have had my Moccamaster little over 3 years has 5 year warranty my water tank had chip in it sent back fixed and went through everything, best coffee ever had. Only weak is a round spray arm. Think there a aftermarket solution
My issue is that some days I want 10oz, some 16oz, some 26oz and some 32oz or something in those ballparks depending on whether I'm drinking at home or taking a bunch of work.
You really have a knack for making the info about this easily digestible. Also, tried toddler dad here who loves his mocca dearly. I also wish the thing had a bit less plastic.
Cool video! very funny, 😂 I just purchased a Moccamaster, and yes!, best home brewed cup of coffee I've ever had!. This thing brings out flavors I've never tasted before in home brewed coffee!, It's a work of art!. 🎨( Candy apple red ) a Masterpiece!. Thank you! Peace! ☮
Great review! But the right switch does not affect the brew time. All it does is to switch on one more heating element. Its very evident if you look inside. The only leads from that switch goes to the heating element under the pot.
I’m the only coffee drinker in my house. Usually just drink about 12-16 oz a day. Would this be good? Also it’s now on sale for $249 I’ve never seen them on sale
I clicked on your video thinking it would be yet another snobby coffee reviewer amongst the sea of many...wow was I completely wrong. Great review, funny, entertaining and now I want one. Kudos!
Just got one and I cannot figure out the ratios. Used the opus on setting 8 and then 9. 41 grams of coffee at the 6 cup line. It’s just off on both brews. I know it’s about the grind, and measurements. What do you do? Coming from a Bonativa and got that figured out pretty quickly.

Yes, although I’d probably go a touch finer to slow the brew down a bit and extend the brew time. It will still put the water into the drip basket at the same rate as for a half pot.
@@DaddyGotCoffee Thanks. I ordered the unit and it will be here tomorrow. Unfortunately I got a cold a couple days ago, and coffee seems to aggravate it, so i'll have to wait. Another UA-cam channel owner has come up with a custom spray arm prototype that better distributes the water and centers it over the filter. The plastic prototype is available, but he plans to have it in stainless steel in the spring. Unfortunately he didn't respond to my question about a payment method, even after I sent him an email as he requested.
@@DaddyGotCoffee It turns out that the 3 1/2 cups of my previous coffee maker is exactly 4 cups in the Moccamaster, which is what they call a half pot, so no problem. I find that leaving the carafe out for 35 seconds to allow water to build up and wet and float the grinds a little improves the flavor, and I do find that using a bit finer grind helps also, although I don't know that the grind is much different than what I was using with my other coffeemaker. I don't know the status of that spray arm replacement I mentioned, but I did purchase the spray head insert from CoffeePilot that sits on top of the filter basket, which works quite well. I just needed to make sure the bracket holding the basket was level, and I use a teaspoon to capture a spurt or two of water and spread it over all the surface of the insert at the beginning to help the water overcome surface tension and cover all the holes, which it otherwise sometimes does not always do.
In fact they are not overall "Great quality". Invariably reviewers state it is. The problem is simple. They still rely on 1970's type plastics as you say. By now they should be upgraded specially for the price (255 eur in Europe). The lock button is flimsy. The drip control unit also cheaply made. The water container too thin and cheap. The quality of the coffee is Great and the speed of the brew exceptional. Nice review
Great Dutch made design but living on its laurels and in the 70's past. Quality needs upgrading. Finally some reviers are admitting this, but no sign they are in deepest Netherlands . It ain't cheap and we are in inflationary times.
My 2 cents: Grind coffee.., Heat water..., Pour water..., Drink coffee. It's this simple. Anything more complicated or involved is IMO a sham that people have been fooled into believing. Buy a $25 water heating machine and save $$$
very unfair. Its a intuitive simple system producing excdellent results. There are plastic quality issued and the drip mechanism needs improving. It can stick. Where it really scores in competition to the rest is its SPEED ! and now "cilt" status
@@gordonspicer A matter of taste. In my opinion, a Timex IronMan is a far superior machine than a Rolex. A stainless steel fork is better tool than one made of silver.
@@kimoandrews5802 An East German era Trabant did the job. And the Polish (original fiat) Polonez was very robust. But would you be happy to have eithrer in your drive or in the company car park or pay a bit more for a Korean or Japanese model?
@@gordonspicer Not quite the same thing. Many goods have improved drastically over time. TVs, light bulbs, computers, phones and yes, automobiles. temperature consistency matters in a product that only exists with hot water… so by default not all will be equal. its chemistry.
