    In the 1998 cult classic "The Big Lebowski," the 1973 Ford Gran Torino plays a distinctive role as the vehicular companion to the film's protagonist, The Dude, brilliantly portrayed by Jeff Bridges. Sporting a worn-out, brown exterior that echoes The Dude's laid-back demeanor, the Gran Torino becomes an emblematic extension of his carefree lifestyle. With its boxy, 1970s design, the car not only serves as a mode of transportation but also as a narrative device, reflecting The Dude's nonchalant approach to the chaos that ensues throughout the film. From its iconic license plate reading "L-ZY 3" to the perpetual spills of The Dude's favorite White Russian drink on its dashboard, the 1973 Gran Torino becomes an enduring symbol of individualism and unconventional coolness in the realm of cinematic history.

      @@bbo40 I think every one I’ve ever seen had a 351 or 400. I’ve seen some pop up on eBay or the other sites with 302s and one 460 (police), but never a six. I had read that the base motor/transmission for at least the early part of this last model year run was a 250/3-speed manual, but never seen one, even in pictures. I’m sure, however, that there were federal, state, and local government fleets that bought them as long as they could until the factories either quit offering them in the base models or fewer employees knew how to drive a 3-pedal.

    This is really sad to watch I have a black 1973 gran Torino sports with the 351 Cleveland automatic. I've owned for 19 years now gave 2000 bucks for her and wouldn't sell her for 1000000 bones. ya the massive bumps are not so great but these cars are top notch reliable and fast with the Bonus of sounding like unhinged beasts... With the right engine... Also so simple to work on it's cheaper to keep and repair than to junk probably one of the greatest cars ford ever made. But best engine from Ford is the 300 inline straight six 4.9l I'm a proud owner of one of these as well In a 1995 f150 with a 5 speed over 300k miles and still going strong only thing wrong with this engine is the gas mileage it's not miles per gallon here it's gallons a mile lol been that why since my dad bought this truck new ive had it the last 11 years. my Gran Torino gets better mpg with the V8 lol but that's down to gearing truck vs car. But the 300 will remove even the gates of from hell and then some. For a gas engine that acts like a diesel and sound like a small Detroit diesel lol. But this video made me go out and hug my gran Torino. She has to know that Hollywood cant hurt her. Be a Descent human being and save a ol Torino fyi they made ones for everyone and everything no matter your size of family or lack there of. Jobs to do vacation or what have you. The signatures on the 'prop' license plate may be legitimate, but I do wonder if the plate itself is legitimate as used in the movie. It might have been taken by one of the people who worked on the film or by someone at the movie car rental place if the production company went the route of using one of those places (I understand that after filming, those rental companies get the car or 'carcass' back). Or, the plate was made by a place that makes replica plates, which is not so far-fetched. I find it a cool few hundred dollar collectible (assuming the autographs are legitimate), but not $2k worthy if the plate cannot be verified as from the film which is probably why it has not sold.

    • @CarStarz42
      @CarStarz42  6 місяців тому +4

      It's supposedly an authenticated prop from what it shows, which would mean it's not a replica I would think. Unless that "authentication" certificate deal is just for the signatures; I guess the fact they didn't specify that may be why it's been on there for so long.

    In fact #3, with John Goodman getting into the passenger side front seat, you see the shoulder harness hooked to the B pillar. It must not be a 1973 Torino. My 1973 Grand Torino Sport, plus other shots in this video does not have a harness on the B pillar. Either side of the car. My harness clips up on the ceiling, and snaps into the lap belt. Then is adjustable by hand.
    Also with the duplicate Torino by Grease Monkey, it has a 1974 and up grille. The grill slits run up and down, a 1973 runs sideways. Also a 1974 and up has different tail lights then the 1972 and 1973.

      Funny enough that Ford of Australia took that engine and ran with it, as they did with the 351 Cleveland. In fact, the inline 6 was used up until they stopped making cars in Australia in 2016, and turbocharged versions of it were making gobs of power in their homemade cars (even rivaling the US produced V8s they also stuck in their lineup). Of course, the engine was far more advanced than '73, lol.
