Thanks, yeah the Impalas were automatics, but they oddly installed a prop floor shifter in them for the actors to fiddle with, not sure why they bothered though as they weren't fooling anyone with it, lol!

Number six. They should have looked into and upgraded the cooling systems of both as well. An Inline six can't be cooled fast enough if it is constantly running from a V-8 truck even if it just one of the smallest big blocks. Same with the trucks. Props to Tom, for giving one of these trucks the drivetrain it deserves, and to Troy for what you are doing with truck number two. And Scott for his LS dropped replica along with Kevin's screen accurate replica. Thank you gentlemen.
This one gives out vibes to the tow truck in the first “ Wrong Turn” movie, I believe it may have been a Dodge. There is actually one a few miles away from us that was in use by a local towing company up until the early 2000’s. Not built for Highway use obviously but it would pull a freight train with the old flathead six banger & gearing that is in it.

Surprised that they didn't have dual rears. I've always liked this franchise and in my opinion, part 2 with the high school kids on the school bus is the best of the 4 installments. I thought part 4 was stupid. If there's a part 5, Gina Phillips should be in it to go after the creeper like she vowed at the end of part 3.

I’ve seen one of these trucks on a flat bed in Ruskin, Fl years ago. I was working at Kash n Karry when I approached it it has screen shots of the movie attached to the back of it. Unfortunately camera phones weren’t popular yet and all I had was my flip phone. The trucker must have seen me because he started his engine and drove off.

That movie was big-time gory, even by the standards of the day. The truck sort of resembles a Korean war era Dodge ambulance, as in M*A*S*H, and I always wondered if they might have been influenced by that style.

I don't know how much they paid for them but I've seen oddball movie vehicles like that go for surprisingly cheap I wouldn't be surprised if they were under $8k
I think Troy paid like $24,000ish for his screen used one though and that was even before he dropped a lot more money into it for the restoration and props and such.
And when it comes to movies, what you see is often not what really is. The floor shifter, believe it or not was a fake prop; it was a powerglide transmission hero car for sure. Smoke and mirrors friend; that's Hollywood for you 😉
You are wrong about the truck being able to catch up with the Impala, even with it having extra gears. Those trucks were geared so low that they would top out at 50-55 mph. The Impala could have easily ran pulled away from that truck in real life, with a top speed of at least 85-90 mph. It isn’t the number of gears that make a vehicle fast, per say, it is the gearing that determines the acceleration and the top speed.
I dunno why but that whole car chase thing in the daylight was the creepiest part of the movie, even moreso than seeing that dead body drop the chute. It just catches up like nothing!

After the CRIME that was the Green Hornet movie and butchering of Chrysler Imperials I have a really hard time supporting or watching actual classic automobiles being destroyed for the sake of a scene in a movie. Their not making any more of the cars. I mean the trucks were likely saved from being crushed, but they had "several" of these Impalas? What a shame. Glad I never watched the movie. Interesting video though. Addendum Truck #3 was dropped off at a scrap yard.

A truly stupid movie wih zero horror, zero terror, zero suspense, made zero plot sense. I guess the director never took lessosn from directors like Toby Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Wes Craven (Hills have eyes and Last House on the Left), or John Carpenter (Halloween). Ranks right down there with Hellraiser and the stupid hell beings like that fat guy wearing sunglasses or that S & M gal demon. Yawn.

They did have to go for the extra drama of being chased and grinding the gears trying to shift. I think that’s why they did the fake shifter.
It was an early example of "trans-mission fluid". Sometimes it identified as manual, sometimes it identified as automatic. 🤣

If I remember correctly the impala was a four speed, I remember them grinding gears in it. So it could have been a V8 as well.

I don't know how much they paid for them but I've seen oddball movie vehicles like that go for surprisingly cheap I wouldn't be surprised if they were under $8k
I think Troy paid like $24,000ish for his screen used one though and that was even before he dropped a lot more money into it for the restoration and props and such.

You are wrong about the truck being able to catch up with the Impala, even with it having extra gears. Those trucks were geared so low that they would top out at 50-55 mph. The Impala could have easily ran pulled away from that truck in real life, with a top speed of at least 85-90 mph. It isn’t the number of gears that make a vehicle fast, per say, it is the gearing that determines the acceleration and the top speed.

I dunno why but that whole car chase thing in the daylight was the creepiest part of the movie, even moreso than seeing that dead body drop the chute. It just catches up like nothing!

After the CRIME that was the Green Hornet movie and butchering of Chrysler Imperials I have a really hard time supporting or watching actual classic automobiles being destroyed for the sake of a scene in a movie. Their not making any more of the cars. I mean the trucks were likely saved from being crushed, but they had "several" of these Impalas? What a shame.

A truly stupid movie wih zero horror, zero terror, zero suspense, made zero plot sense. I guess the director never took lessosn from directors like Toby Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Wes Craven (Hills have eyes and Last House on the Left), or John Carpenter (Halloween). Ranks right down there with Hellraiser and the stupid hell beings like that fat guy wearing sunglasses or that S & M gal demon. Yawn.
