In the iconic 1984 TV series "Miami Vice," the Ferrari Daytona Spyder became a symbol of speed, luxury, and the vibrant lifestyle of the characters Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. This sleek and stylish convertible, with its distinctive wedge shape and pop-up headlights, epitomized the glamorous and sophisticated aesthetic of the show. The Daytona Spyder's sleek lines and roaring engine made it the perfect choice for the undercover detectives as they navigated the sun-soaked streets of Miami in pursuit of justice. With its timeless design and high-performance capabilities, the Ferrari Daytona Spyder left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of "Miami Vice," becoming an integral part of the series' allure and synonymous with the fast-paced, high-stakes world of undercover law enforcement in the 1980s.

The episode where the Daytona is destroyed wasn’t aired in the UK as it featured a plot involving the IRA, British television had a ban on anything to do with Irish paramilitary organisations at the time. We went from seeing Crockett in the black car to an old pickup truck to then getting the Testarossa with no idea why the Daytona wasn’t there anymore.
Wow, really? That is strange.
Yes, it starred Liam Neeson - I was in the UK and my Dad’s friend in Hong Kong taped the episode and my Dad bought it back!
The episode was "When Irish Eyes are Crying" it involved and IRA plot to shoot down a Concorde out of MIA. Not originally supposed to be the season premiere but they wanted to get all the milage out of blowing up the Ferrari. Awkwardly though there are episodes later in the season with the fake Daytona still in them due to this decision.
Remember NOT seeing that episode as well. Even more annoying they had an episode later with flash backs, that showed a few seconds of the Daytona blowing up which made even less sense. There was also an episode of Star Trek next generation that was IRA storyline also not shown in the UK at the time.
You know a show is doing well when you upgrade from a rebodied Corvette to a new Testarossa. Great video. Would you consider a CarStarz episode on Val and Earl's truck from the movie Tremors?
Lol, that's true! Yep, I do have the Tremors trucks on my massive list already too. Thanks 😉👍
Ferrari: Case and desist
Also Ferrari: Here are a couple of Testarossas. No hard feelings. Thanks for the pub.
Lol, indeed.
Coincided the decline of the show though
The story I got back in the day was Enzo Ferrari was a big fan of Miami Vice and told his employee's to get a hold of the TV show and tell them they would provide them with real cars if they would promise to get ride of the kit car replica's and the court deal was an agreed to deal before trial as everybody making replicars always knew they would get shut down at some point
That’s the story I always heard too.
Me too. And I just ordered one of the 1/18th die-casts.
There are only 2 left. Think it ended up being $126. 🤷♂️
Yeah, actual situations and the version the media puts out usually differs quite a bit.
Two Don Johnson TV car videos back to back, I’m digging it. I’ve heard that in real life Don is somewhat of a Ferrari collector so it’s no surprise that he would be driving a Ferrari on TV, even though the Spyder’s were corvette based replicas.
Indeed 😉👍
In the episode where the car was blown up, I remember Crockett got very freaked out and stated something to the effect of 'That car was worth $100,000!' Back in the mid-80s, a somewhat classic Ferrari costing $100k was considered 'big' money.
Lol, yeah. Crazy how much has changed since then and it doesn't even seem like all that long ago.
A brand new Testarossa was 60-80k from what I remember and 100k was premium for a 10+ yo car. Including comparable models like the Countach there was a lot less competition for them than there is now. A lot more people (with the funds) exist now while the number of cars stay the same or dwindle sadly through attrition.
Magnum's 308GT was like $65k and that was a lot.
@@tstahler5420
Nowadays a crappy Golf R MK8 cost around that 😓
not a real daytona spyder even then it was well north of a million .
Finally!!! Now I have seen my childhood trifecta. This car, the general lee, and the Bandit TA were my favorite cars ever! And the fall guy truck gets an honorable mention
😉👍
A real Daytona Spider was in the pilot episode. Crockett is reading a paper whilst waiting for an informant and the camera pans past the car in a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moment
Indeed 😉👍
Yep! There was also a real yellow one in the episode “One Way Ticket”
I heard the inner door handles gave it away.
Yep. Saw it, too.
Tubbs caddy would be awesome too
Yeah, I'll eventually do secondary vehicles in TV and films too, but still have so many primary ones in others to do first 😉👍
Another great video - thank you! Loved this show and the "Daytona". It's interesting to note of the real cars - so many coupes have been converted that Ferrari connoisseurs say "Of the 120 Spyders built, 450 survive". Once again, thank you have a great weekend ~ Chuck
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it and yeah seems a little sacrilegious to chop a roof off any of the coupes though, even if their were more built.
that comes from all the chop top conversions that came after it, theirs even one in the show, which you can tell by the flat decklid and its arial missing, where people would take the coupes and have it cut
while the originals have a more curved bespoke look to them, and generally sit lower too, as they fail to change the shocks for the adjustment in weight
@@kavinskysmith4094 Indeed.
This video is a home run for many reasons! Loved how you had the Miami Vice theme looped for the background music. I hid in the bathroom at work today so I could watch it for the first time. 😁 And it is so awesome I just watched it again so I could comment. You are the king of what you do. Your research, editing, filming, packaging, and editing are second to none. Keep on keeping on, Bossman! 😎
Wow, thanks man! I'm flattered. Very glad to hear you enjoy the channel so much 😉👍
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this!!
Glad to hear that 😉👍
I saw a MV collection-Ferrari Daytona car at Dezer in metro Orlando.gov . That model was in decent shape. Brown leather int. This was around 2018.
There was a real honest to God Ferrari 365 GTB Spyder in a couple of scenes in the Miami Vice pilot. The doors had vent windows. Corvette did not have them. I don't believe the real GTB was ever driven.
Car was on loan. I'm not sure but I believe a real GTB provided engine sounds usually on start up for the first season.
Yes, when we we first meet Leon, Crockett is sitting in a real 365 GTS/4. There's another one in "One Way Ticket" (2.14) owned by the lawyer Thurmond (John Heard).
Indeed 😉👍
A few relatively short years prior in 1976, the film Gumball Rally used a real '72 Daytona I believe owned by the director or producer of the film.
Another awesome video, my friend! 💪👍
Thanks much and glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
Learn so much from watching this one. Have you ever considered doing one on the 1957 Chevy convertible in the 1983 Movie Losing it? With Tom Cruise And John Stocwell Jackie Early.
Glad to hear that and I'll add that one to the big list to look into. Thanks 😉👍
A close friend owned both a Daytona coupe and one of 2 original Spyders used in the movie “Gumball Rally”. It was the car Raul Julia pulled the mirror off. ( it still had the wrong nut holding the mirror on) After he passed, his wife asked me to help her get them both running. She sold off his many cars but kept the Spyder. After she passed, it went through the auction in Monterey for $2,172,500. At one point , I had run out of gas with it near Lake Yosemite in Merced, Ca. Lol.
Fun fact: Ferrari North America provided the 2 white Testarossas, because they did not want to be represented by a replica. Michael Mann commissioned a stunt car to be built from a De Tomaso Pantera. As the wheel offsets are different, this car had awkward offset chrome wheels and can be seen during the high speed chase screens.
Cool, yeah I'll get around to covering the Gumball Rally one too 😉👍
@@CarStarz42
It is my understanding that one car was badly damaged in the LA river race sequence. My friend’s car SN 15007, was the other one, used in the beauty close up shots. The car was special ordered with no Headrests. The other car in the movie can be seen in some scenes with one headrest.
@@calsurflance5598 Ah, good to know 😉👍
I just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying it. I would be interested in an episode on Carl Kolchak's mustang.
Most beautiful car design EVER . IMO .
😉👍
Another excellent topic and video! You can always tell a great video when somehow, 10 minutes has flown by, the video is done, yet we still want more!
Glad to hear that and glad you are enjoying the channel 😉👍
wow I NEVER knew that that Ferrari in Speed Zone was one of the Vice TV cars I just thought oh it is just a similar black/tan Daytona spyder, mind blown.
Indeed 😉👍
I used to have a big poster on my bedroom wall of the Daytona Spyder,,
Along with the Berlinetta Boxer,,
Ahh,, happy days,,
(I'm 68 now),, 😂
Curiously: was the Boxer a yellow and black 365?
@@calsurflance5598 no, it was pure black, 😊😊😃😊
Cool 😉👍
Another awesome video.👍 On of my favorite cars of all time.😊
Thanks and cool 😉👍
I've been waiting for this one for a very long time! At 365 was my favorite Ferrari of all time. I love that car even if it wasn't a real ferrari. Thanks for doing this one!
You're welcome and glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
Love it! The most surprising fact is that the "real" car (actual Ferrari Daytona) is worth at least two mil LESS than Don Johnsons other "hero" car (factory Mopar Hemi Cuda convertible). The legit Spyder selling for 2.8 mil while the owner of that gray Cuda in your Nash Bridges video turned down a bid of 4.8 mil. I bet a legit factory yellow one would top that.
Indeed and glad you enjoyed the video 😉👍
Very nice work thanks 👍🙂
Thanks again 😉👍
been waiting on this one for a while now. already knew about the hero car being in primo condition but i didn't know the stunt car had been abandoned like that. and Ferrari should be down on their knees grateful to Miami Vice for making the Daytona Spyder one of the most famous screen cars ever. and i actually think the change in cars hurt the show. never did like that white Testarossa. Crockett just looked better in the black convertible. it is one of the small handful of European cars that i'd care to own. and i'd rather have a replica car so i could work on it myself. LoL another great video my friend. thank you very much sir.
Thanks and agreed 😉👍
Great video indeed. Good info 😎👍
Thanks much, glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
I watched every CarStarz episode, even when I didn't know the series or film. Love it! This one is my yought. Great series, thank you and keep on going! I think there are many, many cars to follow. Keep up the good work!
Glad to hear you are enjoying the channel and will do 😉👍
Great video, been looking forward to a video on this car, I never knew the car that was blown up was a model, I always thought it was just an empty shell.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
I, too, thought it was a shell from the same place they got their replicas from. I figured a production company would never get rid of perfectly running and useful car props. In fact, I recall arguing with classmates in high school regarding Ferris Buehler's Ferrari. I grew up in L.A. surrounded by people in the entertainment industry, but there were classmates who thought that is was real and that the production company actually destroyed a real Ferrari for the film.
Enjoyed!!!! 👍👍
Glad to hear that 😉👍
@@CarStarz42 🤜🤛
Enjoyed the video! They also used a Testarossa replica built from a Pantera that gave Ferrari some heartburn. That would be a good one for you to do as well.
Yeah, will eventually get around to that one too 😉👍
Well done.
Thanks much 😉👍
Loved that show ❤how about Dylan’s Porsche speedster from 90210 or the speedster from King of the Mountain
Indeed, yeah some cars from King of the Mountain are indeed already on the list 😉👍
I really like your fact filled vid and your title says it all because "Crockett" was fictional, (played by Don Johnson) and his "72 Ferrari Spider" was fictional too (played by Corvette C3's)....I have always wondered about that particular motor choice though, when there were still many earlier, old, used 1960's and 70's "stock" engines in 327 and 350 at that time that put out more power than the ones they used.
😉👍
That Ferrari Daytona is that much nicer than the Testarossa....
😉👍
Miami Vice was my favorite show as a kid growing up in the '80s. So much better than A-Team!
😉👍
I didn’t know this story, pretty cool.
Glad you got something new from it 😉👍
Those are really good-looking replicas, at least on camera anyway.
Indeed 😉👍
There was one for sale in Hilton Head back in the early 90's. It was Ferrari badged up, but very much a Vette.
😉👍
The fake Daytona was still cool and for me looked better in the car driving action scenes than the repainted white Testarossa. I believe one early episode of Miami Vice, the Daytona was chasing down a white Lamborghini.
Indeed 😉👍
There is a fairly long chase across the Julia Tuttle causeway.
Yep and when the perp complains that Crockett will scratch it, he kicks the snot otta it 😂
Awesome Tv show, well ahaed of its time!
Indeed 😉👍
Great video, love your content, love your channel. If you get a chance, I'd love to see you do a breakdown of the red Daytona from "The Gumball Rally". Cheers...thanks !
Thanks and glad you are enjoying the channel, yep that one is on my to do list and I already covered the Cobra in that movie 😉👍... ua-cam.com/video/1XbQPki0UGo/v-deo.html
Good action show.
Cool cars.
Can you do the chevy ss from dazed and confused😮.
Indeed and yes, more cars from Dazed and Confused are already on my to do list as well as that glorious Chevelle 😉👍
Thanks, you are great.
I forgot to ask you sooner.
How about bad cop's car from mad max 2 the road warrior ?
That car looked evil.
Don't forget Ben Affleck's gray car from dazed and confused.@@CarStarz42
@@battlestarmarc Yeah, I'll eventually get to all the cooler vehicles like that in the Mad Max films and definitely more cars from D&C as well 😉👍
The hero car for that TV show has to be stupid valuable After all that was the Miami vice car You can't say Crocket and tubs without it
😉👍
Somehow, I get the feeling the replica has the more reliable engine for long-term use. I could be wrong, but I know how reliable Corvette engines are from the countless people who have put those engines in their own cars several years ago and are STILL driving them today.
Probably so 😉
Replica or not they are gorgeous cars. I always hated when they swapped them out for the bugly Testarossa on Miami Vice.
Agreed 😉
Not a fan of the TR’s looks but not having a convertible top and the bland white color didn’t help. I get that it was supposed to be “cocaine white” but it was too bland.
I saw what i can only assume is a replica in Torremolinos, Spain, last summer. Complete with Miami Vice sticker on the back.
😉👍
This show came on when I was in high school, and I fell in love with the Daytona. I was so disappointed when I learned it was a replica on a Corvette chassis. I still want one though, and would certainly be cheaper and easier to maintain than a Ferrari.
I an currently building the model kit but have stopped until I can find a C3 in the same scale. McBurnie kept the interior mostly Corvette, whereas the model is completely Ferrari.
😉👍
The mcburnie looks better than the original
Indeed quite nice 😉👍
I agree. Having to fit the C3 chassis, the modifications to the body add even more style.
@@RealBLAlley 😉👍
Speaking of John Candy, how bout Uncle Bucks POS ...... Grand Marquis???
That backfire 😂
Yep, been trying to do that one for awhile now, just hard to find info on it.
There was an article in poplar mechanics back in the day showing the build of the cloned Daytona. The reason for it so the car could be beat the crap and repaired affordably during the TV show.
Cool 😉👍
The movie the Gumball Rally has a real Ferrari Daytona and a real Shelby Cobra as the stars of the show
Indeed and I already covered the Cobra and I'll get to the Ferrari eventually too, See the Cobra video here... ua-cam.com/video/1XbQPki0UGo/v-deo.html
A black and tan Daytona replica was used in an episode of 911 Los Angeles (early episode) wherein a owner was in the car with his son and the throttle was stuck. I always wondered if it was one of the Miami Vice cars.
Hmm, I haven't seen anything on that, but possibly or maybe another McBurnie replica.
Here's another fact: The Daytona replica did re-appear again in a later Season 3 episode 'El Viejo'. Probably because thats the first episode they shot before 'When Irish Eyes Are Crying'. Its possible they couldn't aired 'El Viejo' as the first episode of the 3rd Season, due to scheduling reasons, maybe...
Indeed 😉👍
It's been said that that the Daytona's destruction was why it was switched to the premiere.
Fact #4 has me LMAO!
They won the lawsuit and then donated two real cars to use in the series.
What a classy gesture.
Lol, indeed.
It looked like the better kept vette had an auto box and the stunt one had a manual, is that correct? Great video always enjoy your content!
Yeah, I think they may of switched it to an auto, but the McBurnie replicas came with 4-speeds anyways to be more like the original car.
I like 👍 the car 🚗 in Miami vice I think 🤔 it is so cool
😉👍
I remember when they aired the show of the Spyder being blown up, it actually made me really sad. I was really young at the time. With that happening, for me at the time, it made the show worse... bringing in the new white Ferrari. It was like changing the Dukes of Hazard car... if they would have done that, I am sure it would have got cancelled. The Spyder is to me what made the show.
Agreed friend 😉👍
As people point out, many 365 Berlinettas became Spyders via coach builders in the aftermarket.
Stramans in Costa Mesa CA was known for crafting a Spyder that was factory correct.
True.
Out of 100+ conversions only one or two made by any builder were fully factory correct. For example real 365 GTS/4 has metal inner fenders while GTB/4 has fiberglass. They didn't bother that level of details as it would have driven cost up too high.
I saw the hero car at Carlisle years ago
Cool 😉👍
There was a real Daytona Spider, yellow, in the second season episode "One Way Ticket".
Indeed 😉👍
'Ahhh, rico do you see that jerk fire off the rpg at my daytona and it blew up now how i supposed to do walk everywhere or take a taxi' oh yes the infamous scene that will lived forever in tv history (but also give us meme of sunny crockett shocking reaction towards seeing his beloved ferrari being used for target practice) as usual buddy your work is greatly appreciated and all of the facts in video are insightful for us to know so with that i see you later bye now and have nice weekend too.
Indeed and thanks 😉👍
When I was a kid I hated that they got rid of the white Testarossa.
lol
You said they were manuals, but clearly one of those is an automatic. I’ve also been rewatching the show recently, and the one they’re driving appears to be an automatic.
The McBurnie replicas came with 4-speeds, possible that they switch changed to auto later I suppose.
They were automatics.
Most of the time you could hear it going into "Drive" before D.J. pulled away.
Plus the back end dropped down going into "D" just like an automatic Vette.
4:36. Billy Zane looked good, booming the Daytona
lol
That's Jeff Fahey.
I wanna get one
😉👍
Hope a Testarossa vid is soon and addresses ragtops. All the "experts" keep telling me there were no convertible "redhead" Ferraris but I SWEAR I remember Micheal Jackson driving one on a Pepsi commercial.
Yeah, I'll eventually get around to cover that as well 😉👍
Loved the vid.
Loved the show and the Daytona WAAYY more than the fat-ass Testarossa.
And just ordered the 1/18th die-cast of it. There are only 2 left ATM. Will look groovy next to my 1/18 Vector W8, 928 and the copy of my R-spec F-type (that I have to strip & repaint to match my real one🙄).
Glad you enjoyed it and cool😉👍
The legal dispute. Resulted in the Testarossa being used as advertisement for Ferrari. That was part of the agreement
yep.
love to see a Herbie video ?!
I do have the original on the list to do. Thanks
I didn't know about the Ferrari dispute causing "spyder''s replacement. I thought it had to do with one of the vehicles being used in a real drug buy during the series.
Nope, but yeah that was an interesting ordeal as well.
They were already popular with real smugglers. The show was art imitating life.
How about an episode on the Volvos from the original the saint tv show and the movie remake?
I'll add it to the big list to look into. Thanks 😉
@@CarStarz42 awesome. Thanks!
Perhaps it is appropriate that Michael Mann, who was involved with the Miami Vice TV series and directed the movie version, has gone on to direct Ferrari. Too bad that movie and the Miami Vice motion picture aren't good films.
Indeed.
Love the video, but if you want my opinion though I believe that the lawsuit that Ferrari brought against the creator of the replica Ferrari Spyder was a little extreme because having a replica should be a good thing as having the real car on the series itself, but at least both replicas are still around though that's for sure so thank goodness for that otherwise good job on the fact that they are still here to be admired.
Agreed, some manufactures are just very sensitive on that kind of stuff and don't see the value behind it I suppose. Thanks👍
@@CarStarz42 point made and duly noted and you're welcome, can't say I blame you for being disappointed though.
Good job 👍
Thanks much, glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
never thought they were replica's ....now I see the headlights were wrong
Indeed.
On the TV version they put the rectangular Ferrari badge too high off the nose. I notice the current owners corrected that. I can forgive the wrong door handles and windshield frame as the original’s dainty levers and frame would be too complicated/expensive to reproduce but the one thing that drives me nuts is the use of rectangular headlights. The original used four round headlights. The square ones are a dead giveaway it’s not the real thing.
Indeed😉
Are you sure the TV cars were manuals? I don't remember Crocket shifting.
Yeah, I'm doing look into that deeper when I go over this video again for the transition to the new video platform I'm working switching to. It's taking a awhile as I'm going through each video one by one and fixing known issues and making small corrections on each as well, thanks 😉👍
Always wondered; in that same episode where the Daytona "exploded" the baddie was driving a black Testarossa. Several episodes later Crockett is given one with "fresh paint". Concidence?
😉
They originally choose black Testarossas but they didn't film well at night so they repainted them. There was also a fake Testarossa made from a Pantera for any dangerous stunts where they didn't want to risk writing off the real Testarossa.
1:04 I know its nitpicking but it always annoyed me when the taillights and turn signals where mixed up and the taillights would shine as amber at night.

@@CarStarz42 "Suburbans" the official vehicle of Steven Segal in at least three movies.
Actually Mcburnie helped make the car but it was made for mardikian the Grey Market importer talked about in Rainman, and was the same guy who made the chop top Ferrari Berlineta Boxer and Lamborghini Countach that rod stewart
and was to be sold as the mardikian 350 GTS featuring a custom interior, gail banks turbo and they only made about five of them
I even have a photos of an Ad that SHOWS the vice car pre vice in it next to a red daytona spider
1200 West Coast Highway, Newport california
and theirs unique features to both, namely the seats and one other thing I am not oblidged to say given its one of the key identitfying marks for it
the cars being used, Car 4, the one in the pilot, the much better looking of the two, and car 1, a red car, resprayed black and used as a back up to the hero car
A 76 car that they put the molds on off of a real daytona spider that was in for service, a white and red one, only to find when they kept going back and forth that the molds were lining up
because the car had been in a wreck at some point and one frame rail was shorter than the other
and the nose is notably different and features a flat grill, with a higher up off the ground chin, and features a far more reduced wheel flairs
while the one on car 4 is lower, and features much more full flares, akin to a race car driven by Paul newman at the 24 hours of Daytona
and neither were stuntcars, they equally beat the hell out of each of them, think of them like Excaliber or Auburn replicas
and they were not 4 speeds, they were three speed TH350's, and used whatever 350's they came with, mated to that gail banks turbo to make up for the performance loss, when they were made in 1981 and 76 respectively
the 1981 car being a beige on beige car originally, and converted when basically brand new
as they were in the golden state, and actually LEASED to the production until season 2
and had their engines replaced given the one on car 4 got blown at some point, and is fitted with a Holy 850 CFM double pumper
valve cover breathers, and a latter 84/85 block without the crossfire injection, putting out probably closer to 220/230 horsepower, not too far off what it would have had back in the day in the 60's
so it is NOT a turd
also they used a real one in the pilot, but it got damaged somehow resulting in a 10,000 payout for repairs for a local doctor, its the one crockett jumps out of to pull the piece on the black dude in the pilot
the plan was to use that, and car 4 as the leads but when that dropped out they got another replica from the same place
as the daytona spider wasnt as exclusive as you make it out to be, they even found another one when they wrecked one for the gumball rally somehow
basically they were kinda hollywood cars that never got used, hairdresser cars, and the top folded at a 140, based on the stories I've read from the one that was in england that used to be owned by a member of the who
that is now in japan, and even the guy from Soultrain owned one
along with bugs bunny himself, mel blanc as a replacement for that aston martin he wrecked, one of thee most well kept and most beautiful cars I have ever seen
also they were heavy and hard to drive, the steering is notoriously heavy and lightens up at about 60 mph
and their strength was their high end, hence its use in the cannonball run, as according to Hal needham I think
the thing was doing a 140 and wasnt even breathing, and they had a cop trailing them for over 7 miles and the only reason he caught them was because they had to stop at a gas station to fuel up
think like a drop top testarossa and you'll get the picture
also that black and tan one is either lying or someones had a respray, as it said and claimed it was one of one according to the ferrari records
and Mel's sold for 1.6 in 2006, I have the photos
and also the italians, they like to lie, ALOT, like ferrari in particular was noted for lying about even the enzo numbers recently
and Lamborghini even well............ you ever hear of the man who haunted himself, the roger moore film
I was looking up the islero, found a website that had all the paperwork from some of the owners of those cars
and well, lets just say they marked something as used when it was new to save on taxes, and it wasnt the radio
and that was a hard 3 hours to read all that cursive
also the original cars, didnt have ferrari logos on them with the replicas, they were left off and replaced with a M mark on the front, and the logos that said mardikian 350 GTS on the back in gold lettering
which was removed from the cars
and they didnt have the ferrari logos in the actual turn signals, its latter on when they got big that they started doing that which is what got him in trouble
and it featured custom seats, which were removed after the pilot that really SHOULDNT of been with how good they looked, still trying to track down just how they made it
ironically an episode of junkyard digs might have helped with that recently,
2nd episode of season 3 FYI is when they were written out, EL Viejo was first and was originally going to be the season opener, hence the peterbuilt scene in that where they show off the area where he gets the testarossa in that, which is actually right behind the studio
where they also filmed in season 1 once when they go out to the cars and car 4 is missing its plexyglass as they damaged the cars alot in that first season, probably from the jumping
also that's car 4 there at 5:44, in season one you can tell them apart as the original car, car 1 had chrome, car 4 black, they switched them in season 2 and revamped the car
and a further revamp and a third car was planned probably to replace car 1 in season 3
and in speed zone the thing is jacked, probably for the stair scene, new seats, a custom painted surround for the windshield trim that was made for it and they switched the door handles to a different style from the alfa ones it had in the show
and is using an 89 L48 under the hood
and 6:39 THAT IS NOT THE HERO CAR I know the guy, that is not his car, he actually had the chance to buy the grand sport at one point and went for that over it
its had some mods to it since then like the burlwood center dash has been removed, the door panels were redone in a much nicer style, the smoked plexyglass the cars had in the pilot and then season 2 and 3 were removed
which gave the illusion of pop up headlights when they were 2x2 projector lights, kinda like on the vette from cleopatra jones
and sorry if I'm being a pain in the ass here but you are getting ALOT wrong lol
and THAT is car one at 9:22/9:22 there, note the chrome, the nose and the look of it vs the other
also for diecast 1:64 Kyosho, they make a black one in a simple kit that you can put together and paint the inteiror tan on
ironically just like the one I saw now that I think of it
also I kinda helped with the volo car restoration, gave them abunch of the photos, car 1 was really rough in that first season, even a pinned on dash cover, given it was the first one they were experementing with back then
vs the stiched and glued one of car 4 that almost like a miura interior, like it really is a beautiful car, and it would have easily fooled people if they had just used the original rims and tires
also they moved the sidepipes in to mount the camera's, your K in K replica actually has them like they did in the pilot, without the amber lights actually
big story about that one, the Gm sockets they used did not fit the ferrari ones, so the amber lights they had, as they switched them weirdly, liked to get unplugged until they fitted them with ferrari hardware
OH and also the Daytona replicas had something the corvette never had
which sounds really really stupid considering it was on the C2, a trunk, and the spiders, convertibles for the C3 were discontinued in 1975. along with the big block cars
meaning those outside of the chop tops are the only late gen based Convertibles made,
which is another thing that gets forgotten, convertibles really didnt exist back then, heck you could almost point to the show being the reason why they came back
and also why Knight Rider introduced a chop top in its last season, which lines up with the first two of vice
as Greg Larson was abit of a plagarist, sometimes even flat out copying the music at times, and they also shared scenes, sets and actors at times
especially with when Irish eyes are crying, as that same set along with General Gologo show up in Knight rider at the same time lol
and the scene where the daytona bites it was actually on a beach in cali, and the calender even shows the view over LA in the hills with them wearing the outfits from that episode
with the testarossa in its original much better looking color, before they literally repainted it creme white, the same color as the interior
that they then found on the knight rider trailer when it was originally white in season 1 of that show, its literally the same color, I did the comparison when the knight rider people found the original paint on the trailer from all those seasons
as the same guy painted both, and that curated guy never did do the interview with him before he sold the car
as I always wondered why it didnt seem like flat straight white and looked abit brownish at times, drove me nuts as it never looked quite right vs the white examples that came after it
also the currated guy didnt fix the bumper either, someone ran it into one of the other ferrari's, theirs a red paint transfer mark on it
and they evidently redid the shocks as its sitting abit squatter, like I thought that 1/43 make up testarossa replica I had of it was abit off
no it turns out that's actually how it is, and they even got the paint right
as they made a 1/43 Edolin scale model of it, incredible detail, but hard as heck to find
EM147, mine came with a sad story however
Thanks again for another extra long comment with lots of interesting info, maybe you should create your own similar channel to put all your knowledge to use? 😉

Woah woah hold on.. screen shot of the dash .. looks like a Trans Am dash 🤔
I believe McBurnie built custom dashes for these to mimic the originals.
Looks very similar to a ‘79 trans am dash .
The onenthe guy owns one in Florida does take it out on the road. Ive seen him driving it.
Cool 😉👍
I’m 55 and loved Miami Vice as a teen and I sure as sh!t remember seeing the black fake Ferrari blown up. On the BBC at the time I think.
Indeed, was a fairly convincing model car explosion for the day anyways 😉
Who owned , or has the blue Camaro from Halloween pt 5 , next episode
I'll add that one to the list. Thanks 😉👍
One for the hairdresser's. The designers seemed to have a thing for noticable front indicator lenses.
Lol 😉👍
I thought the replicas had auto transmission.
They do, I fixed that in the revised version... rumble.com/v4pxqbn-10-cool-facts-about-crocketts-72-ferrari-daytona-spyder-miami-vice-op-01192.html
@@CarStarz42 Gotcha.
The lawyers, Hollywood and dope dealers can keep the cars. The Bren Ten in the jackass leather is of more use.
😉
Not true sadly. I had two D&D Brens and neither would get a full mag of Norma without failure to feed. The pet alligator would be a better defense.
Wasn't a replica Corvette body Ferrari Kit car body
The reverse of that statement actually, yes it was a McBurnie built replica Ferrari body on a Corvette chassis. 😉
That blue C3 at 0:20 looks better than the fake Daytona
Yeah, I personally think that the C3 Vette is the sexiest body style ever made as it pretty much the equivalent of looking at a super sexy woman 😉👍
I understand you both be being patriotic but please give your heads a wobble and get the eyes tested! 😉😂
@@SteveDull Opinions vary I suppose 😉
That scene was hysterical, with basically two Vettes dialing.
Can you walked Texas ranger dodge ram
Yep, already on the list and requested often. Thanks 😉👍
