well this is easily the nicest grinder I have used. the name of the game with this grinder is quick and silent. im grinding 16.5 grams in 2.6 seconds thats about 6 grams a second give or take. not only that the pucks that come out are the best formed I have ever seen.
special thanks to espresso outlet for sending the grinder

He reminds me of the neighbor I wish I had next door.....Just a very nice person that makes good coffee and needs a nice neighbor to help him drink it.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha in the words of a great man. “Won’t you be my neighbor 🎶🎼🎵”
Been waiting for this review since I saw it on your channel. I've got this recently too and yes it has been such a great addition even to the Pro. I used the built-in grinder and boy the difference is so big (but of course, you pay for it!). Couldn't agree more with the points you made especially the light ! I only knew about the light when I first turned it on and was looking for a switch for that. But soon I found it so useful, as you said in the early morning or winter when there is less sunlight. I also use the light for my puck prep so that's such a nice unexpected feature.
Yeah it’s a nice little added feature and I’m surprised I haven’t heard any one else mention it
Vídeos as always is super detailed I love it
Thank my wife for that one lol
I agree completely with your comment about time based grinding. Another factor that affects the output is the amount of beans in the hopper. The weight of output varies wildly when you compare a full hopper to one that's almost empty - or at least it does on my Baratza Settee.
Yeah I have noticed that even when today my shot ran way faster when I had less coffee in the hopper even though I had the same dose Ruffly
That's why I tend to keep my hopper full most of the time... keeps things more consistent (or at least it's one less variable).
My favorite grinder! Love mine in chrome too
I’m jealous chrome would be amazing
@@JoeyVaracalli snag one. No regrets!
@@portakeeper might have to
You posted a video at the perfect time (I was so bored) before I watched the vid.
Lol 😂 I’m glad I can help
Thank you. Does a 0.2 gram difference change anything in the shot to the point of having a perceptible influence on the taste in the cup?
Hey Joe! Would you recommend that scale in this video? I've been considering purchasing it but reviews were a bit mixed. Thanks in advance for your help.
The scale I use? I like it… definitely not the best ever but it does the job and it’s pretty accurate and stays well tared in. If you want slightly higher end go with the timore amzn.to/3ut1b0F
Are there high-end weight-based grinders? The best I know of is the $600 Baratza Settle 270wi which has 40mm conical burrs; not comparable to the Atom 75.
Also:
1) Thoughts on putting SSP or other upgrade burrs in the Atom 75?
2) Retention?
3) What's the declumping system for the Atom 75?
Yeah there are definitely some high end grinder that do that check out the Mahlkonig E65S GbW I also believe the eureka luca does that as well.
I’m not sure if you can find a set of 75mm ssp burrs you may need to special order that but honestly the burr set in here is very good not sure it’s worth upgrading out of the box.
Retention was pretty low but it’s not a single doser so retention doesn’t become as important I really don’t recommend this grinder for single dosing.
Unfortunately without taking apart the machine I can’t get super specific but this is whata on the spec sheet.
“Patented anti clump/static system delivers light, fluffy grounds”
I have a close sibling of this one, an Atom 60 (which I bought used at about half the price). It isn't as fast as the 75 but still fast enough (roughly 1g/s), gives me great coffee (coming from a Rocky which I suspect was defective), and is indeed very silent. I strongly suspect the entire Atom line gives the same experience, save for speed.
It does makes me wish I had a single-dosing grinder of the same quality. You can't really do single dosing on the Atom, there is significant retention (I throw away about 6 grams of stale grounds from the grinder on first use every day, and on every change in coarseness), and it doesn't grind as well (or as fast) when the hopper is empty (I keep as little coffee as possible in the hopper, just enough to fill up to the base of the conical section).
Also I removed the fork and put the portafilter on a scale (itself on an improvised stand). The grinder's timer is set to give me approximately the right amount minus a couple grams, and then I complete with manual pulses (works for me on the slower 60, I guess on the faster 75 you might have to use the single timer set to a very short pulse). This gives me great accuracy with minimal effort and no waste.
Overall I quite like the Atom. Maybe some day I'll swap it for a DF64 for the flexibility of single-dosing. But if you only every drink the same coffee (or just one bag of coffee at a time), then it's fine.
Yeah the df64 is great too but I think we are splitting hairs between the atom 60 and the df64 although the df64 is almost certainly cheaper depending on where you live. You can always get an even smaller single doser like the lagom mini
@@JoeyVaracalli I got my second-hand Atom at about half the price (350€) of a new unit (650+€), making it slightly cheaper than a new DF64 (400€). At the time I was not even sure if I needed a better grinder, so I figured buying used meant I could resell later with limited loss. Now I know that a better grinder did help me, so I'd be more inclined to buy new and to pay for the benefit of single dosing.
Also I wonder if I could consolidate all my grinders (the Atom I use for espresso + the Rocky I now recycled for filter) into one DF64, meaning the DF64 should let me switch between grind sizes several times a day (think filter coffee vs. espresso) without having to dial-in the espresso or open the grinder for cleaning each time. This way I would save in kitchen space, and reduce the amount of money trapped in my coffee gear. But regarding workflow, I'm not even 100% sure if it would be a win over keeping two grinders! :D
@@jmsaffroy yeah you can easily jump from filter to espresso on the df64 I even do spices some times then flush it with cheap coffee
a hopper with bellows is now available for sale that you can use to force the grounded coffee out. so pure single dose grinding is possible
I wonder how the retention compares to the Ceado models or say zero retention Oro
Yeah I haven’t done that but I know Dylan over at Dylan’s home espresso bar has done that test I believe. It was pretty great if I remember correctly
Do you face clogging issue regularly in ATOM? I’m in search of a new grinder for expresso use but read odd reviews of Eureka. I’m told coffee powder enters inside the grinder near the motor and requires regular cleaning. Thoughts?
I did not experience that but it’s definitely possible
Curious if you ended up with a eureka and whether you had issues .. in the same boat
@@rayo1371 got myself an Anfim and it is a gem so far. 💎
Hey - Eureka has a weight based version of this model. Would you still recommend?
I’m getting one delivered soon. But I just got to demo the grind by weight here at sca and I’d wait for that
For one thing, that grinder is a stepless grinder. The other thing about that grinder is like any other time base finder or even the weight bast grinder. They will always be off the phone setting up the coarse or fine. That is the nature of all grinders.
I agree but weight based in my experience is just a bit more of a pleasure and ease of use to... use every day but this grinder is amazing I miss is honestly just the speed alone was friggen amazing
I have heard that puck screens stop essential coffee oils from helping lube the e61 cam, any issues in your experience?
I have had no experience with that my self. Kinda odd though since bsckflushing helps remove oil build up n such
@@JoeyVaracalli I haven’t chemical backflushed my Bianca yet, some people report a squeaky lever after 1 chemical backflush or a week of using a puck screen. I’m doing daily water back flushes and weekly screen and dispersion screw soaks.
@@paul--b yeah the lever will be squeaky during the process but after the process is over the squeaking goes away
@@JoeyVaracalli Even when using a puck screen? Supposedly the coffee oil is what’s causing the squeak to go away.
@@paul--b yup 👍
I couldn't agree more. Weight based is superior. Weight based does add cost, but at the price point you're looking at what's another $100.
Yeah I mean it’s 2022 after all
Why in video picture from burrs shows 65mm ones?
Idk can you show me what video and or picture your referring to cause they make a 65
Thanks for the video. What ring funnel do you use? Thanks
Here’s the link amzn.to/3Y73ZfZ
@@JoeyVaracalli Thanks, you really help me, just got the same grinder and ECM funnel ring is not as good as yours. I heard that EDO Wormhole ring is also good, but no-one has it in stock in the US and the shipping is abnormally high from Europe.
Hope you enjoy your coffee. Peace!
@@lynxy5242 no problem at all glad I could help. I have lived my dosing funnel and it’s pretty inexpensive as well
How did you get the blind portafilter to stay on the fork. Mine will not stay put not matter how much I lift or lower arms. It’s it the funnel helping?
It’s the funnel I use make sure you buy the same one others won’t work. I have a link in the description
Word, sadly I cannot find it in your description links for the atom review.
@@JoeyVaracalli nevermid found it!

Hello, thanks for the information. Would you mind adding metric units to your videos? Giving the dimensions in inches means nothing to viewers out the US -- everywhere else in the world millimeters would be used. Milimeters are already used for the burr size, they can be used for dimensions as well. Thank you so much and have a nice day!
Hell yeah tubz no problem at all I appreciate the comment
Do you know if Eureka is going to make this grinder with gbw (grind by weight)?
I have been told yes. I actually got a demo of it at the coffee expo this year
@@JoeyVaracalli Do you know when it will be launched. I have a Ceado e37S, but I think the retention is too big on it.
Sexy grinder - it's also available in Red and White, not just Black and Chrome. Sounded like someone was "tinkling" in the background during this video. Was the bathroom door open?
No that’s my cats water bowl lol
How can i use it as a single dose
I honestly wouldn’t use this as a single dowsed but u would want to get something to puff 💨 out the coffee after grinding
.2 grams seems a pretty wide margin of error to me. I’m not sure I would be happy with the results of that.
Yeah most time based grinders is significantly higher but that’s kinda my point on the eight based grinding. I will say though most single doser leave about .1 grams behind so .2 really isn’t super terrible all things considered
Bianca vs BDB ?
Bdb sorry Im bad with acronyms lol
@@JoeyVaracalli sorry Breville Dual Boiler
@@JPC326 ohhhhhh that would make for a very interesting video. I just need to find one
It is a commercial grinder so it is functional but ugly and very expensive for a home barista. It really is overkill for home use and also it doesn't really make sense, for home use a single dose grinder makes much more sense as at home you are far more likely to be swapping coffees and having to dial in so the retention will be a big waste of coffee when changing. The strengths of this device are all based around speed and consistency in a multi shot commercial use with one type of coffee.
Yeah pretty sure I said most of what you said in this comment. It’s a great grinder but not really great for home use since it’s so big and really requires coffee in the hopper all the time
