  • The Lucca Atom 75 promises the performance of the original Eureka Atom 75 with new and unique technology brought by Lucca and the TrueGrind application. Essentially the espresso grinder offers a dial-in assistant and digital burr placement tracking to get you back into brewing whenever you switch coffees, but there is a bit of a catch to this barista in a box.

    Have had atom 75 for almost 3 years, it is so fast and quiet. Love the on demand button and simple button adjustment...not sure if I would want to go touch screen but then I'm old and probably don't appreciate modern tech or apps so much. I would be more interested in Helios 80 and what is different or better about that burr set... good video

      Thanks Jeff, and I get you. I’m also resistant to touch screens as they can be a little spotty to use and have issues over time. This one worked well for the 3 months or so I had it though, but I can’t speak much for beyond that.

    I agree with you, I am not a fan of apps and prefer to select the options on the unit, whether Espresso/Coffee machine, grinders, etc. especially when you are very limited on space and a phone is one more thing to move around....

    Taste wise, how does it compare to the Specialita/ Mignon Libra?
    How is the useability and TrueGrind predictability for coffees that are not in the database?
    I assume you can use the grinder like a regular Atom 75 if for some reason you don't use the app? You get the added benefit of having the burr gap indicator for repeatability as a plus compared to the Atom 75.
    Thank you for the great videos and your thoughts.

    Is it a hassle to get in the burr and chute for regular cleaning? I mean is it a thoughtfully designed in this aspect. This is an important factor for me / deal breaker. Appreciate it. Thanks as always.

    I have the non-Lucca Atom 75, and it's a beast. The burrs are the same geometry as the Mythos One, so the shots are pretty similar. In other words, pretty good! That said, if you're wanting to single dose it, take out the declumper and RDT. It reduces the regrind a lot. Also, you can buy SSPs for it. :)

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  Рік тому

      Yeah I saw there were a few aftermarket burr options that were designed for the Mythos. I think there are also single dose hoppers you can get 3D printed on Etsy or other similar shops. Could be worth it if you want either the Eureka or Lucca option.

    After spending $1400 on a grinder, you'll want to get the most out of it. This means buying the coffees that they have stored on the app, and possibly ignoring others that haven't made it on there yet. This feels like tech that narrows the field for coffee drinkers instead of expanding the experience.

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  Рік тому +9

      You can add your own coffees, but it definitely feels designed to those who buy in larger quantities or the same coffees regularly vs those who want to try a lot of different coffees.

      i can relate to this to some extent, while i spent close to that on my home grinder it doesn't get used to its potential. The app does narrow it down slightly however still able to be used without it from my understanding. Hopefully it grinds well for all new buyers

      I have this grinder it's basically upgraded eureka atom 75 with different interface , what u get for extra 100$ if u go with lucca atom 75 is better burs , micro adjustment that is very precise , you really don't have to use the app ( thst I actually can't even install on my new android s22 ultra ) keeps telling me it's designed for older phones wtf! But even without this app interface is better than regular eureka atom 75 , their display fills cheap and plasticky

    I have used this grinder for awhile now and only use it in the 'manual' mode, ie, without the app as the app is really only good for coffees that are in the the Clive database. Also, there is a 'recalibrate' function on the grinder. You input the yield and the time of a pulled shot and the grinder will recommend a more appropriate grind size. This can get a bit funky. Many times I have inputed the variables for a shot that was way off (say 40 gram yield that took 45 seconds) to have the grinder recommend the same grind size that produced that result. Not sure why that happens. Probably user error, but it happens. It does yield a nice cup, I rarely change coffee so my workflow is known and easy. I have not tried it in 'single dose mode'.

    • @StoicDude337
      @StoicDude337 Рік тому

      Out of curiosity, did you weigh your ground beans in the portafilter for this?
      And was this a single dose operation or on demand?
      The reason why I ask is, if the weight was off and was not weighed, the results in the cup could have been different than expected.

    • @lyleallan5124
      @lyleallan5124 Рік тому

      @@StoicDude337 This was my next question. My normal use is to keep the hopper about a 1/3 full and use a timed shot. Results always seem to be around 0.2g of desired weight. After watching the video, I 'drained' the grinder of all beans and put in 20g and ground for 6 seconds (double the usual as suggested in the video). The grind was different and the time for my desired yield was less than normal. I repeated and got the same result. I was wondering if grinders are engineered to have a certain amount of beans of the hopper. FWIW, I had a Eureka Single Dose grinder and 1). 20 g wasn't always 20 g out with a large variation (don't know how the reviewers of that grinder got their consistency) and 2) the bellows kept falling off.

      I should be getting the grinder this week and I can report back what happens to me.
      My plan is to use it with a hopper filled with about 2-4 shots, so about 50-70g of beans, which usually has been working on my Specialita.

    Thanks for the video. The RPM is 1740. Measured using slow mo. Eurekas electrical/mechanical specs are useless. Nice to capture the dial creep. At the beginning you say 90watt motor, but you mention after the intro it is 900w. This is a safe number. The grinder spins up at 840watt no beans. With beans under load it should push 1200 watts though.
    If you still have this grinder is absolutely worth picking up the atom pro burr set separately. It’s a huge difference. The part number is “MAC75BREW CP”. They aren’t cheap $300usd. It’s no comparison to the stock 75mm burrs from eureka. Makes it into a whole different grinder.

I don't need you to do a head-to-head, but especially when the thing is most of the way to 2k, talking about the price-point and broadly how it stacks up against others in that bracket seems like an easy thing to add and I don't feel like there's much of a discussion without those things.
