Driveway Stump Removal | Last Fishing Trip of the Season

  • With fishing season winding down we scour a nearby river in search of lost fishing lures and take our findings to a local lake for our last open water fishing trip. Before we call it quits for the year with developing our second property, we bring in a mini excavator that makes easy work of pulling up 80 plus stumps and leveling the driveway.

Hi Eric, watch Andrew Camarata here on youtube. He has some really great videos on removing stumps and clearing driveways. What he does is pull the stump out of the ground, grab/lift/shake it, use the bucket to clear off a lot of the dirt off the stump, then lift the stump high in the air and drop it right back into the hole it was pulled out of. All of this is done over the hole it was pulled out of, and it fills in the hole while getting most of the dirt off. From there, he either cuts the stumps and hauls them away, cuts and burns them, or tosses them in an unused part of the woods where it'll decompose and provide habitats. 80 stumps, though... definitely get the dirt off of them and consider taking them to a mulch manufacturer or weathering them for firewood next year. Great job out there! We're coming up in January to dig our own. 1800 feet of driveway... gonna be fun. :)

if you've already piled them up maybe turn them into compost or consider Hügelkultur. The biomass from the wood debris is piled in long rows and covered in compost and then topped with topsoil. you leave it for 5-6 months and then you have really great fertile raised beds which last years. The wood continues to enrich the soil as it decays over time. Since winter is coming you could prep the mounds now and let them settle over winter and have great fertile rows come planting season. Thanks for sharing I love watching all your videos seeing all the fantastic views of Alaska

Since your water table is very high, gather all the dirt/soil, pile it like an elevated mound of Hill. Then compact it.
(Before build your house, cabin etc).
So you don't have to worry with the rising water table when snow melt or heavy wet weather.
That will be the best option.

I was just praying that no one fell into that cold water. Excavators are amazing. I own a big dozer, but I actually think an excavator (we call them trackhoes down south) would work better for me in timber. Stumps are hard to extract with a blade. Burn what you can and dig a hole. Bury the rest of the stumps. You'll need the mini-ex back when you are prepping for the cabin. By then the stumps will be ready to burn.

That jaw breaker is a weedless spoon. Made to run through grass and lilies. Also, the best pike lure is either a red/white spoon or a rapala shad rap. Medium to large sizes work best. P.s. just a guy who buys too much tackle.

I pick up discarded hooks, lures, and weights all the time when fishing! Drives my husband crazy! 😂

My husband loves to fish, the lure retrieving looks like more fun than fishing, although I did catch a 17 pound pike this summer! Love watching the stump removal, your pretty handy at driving the dozer!!

That is really awesome to save all of those lures. Just think of all the money you are able to save along with cleaning the river! Brrrr.....so cold there. We've been breaking some records here this week in MN for our high temps but not that long ago we were way below temps and got 5-7 inches of snow before Halloween! Crazy weather!!!! Next week we get back to normal. Isn't it just amazing how big the root system is on trees!?! I had to giggle at your dog. What fun he says. That mini excavator looks like it would be fun to use and I'm a female.

Mepps spinners use actual squirrel tail hair for the skirt. Mepps will compensate you for sending them squirrel tails, only if harvested for table fair though.
Check them out! Also nice job on cleaning up the waterway. 👍

I sincerely enjoy watching your videos. While waiting for new ones Ive gone back and watched old ones. I really enjoy the quite sounds like when you’re working in the garden or chopping food for canning. I’ve made cowboy candy using your recipe and love it! The views are stunning. Seems so peaceful and cozy to me. The two of you make a great couple. I hope to one day find someone I can share life with like the two of you. I was wondering it you plan to move onto the property you are clearing. Take care. God bless.

There's something really satisfying about ripping up those stumps and seeing the entire roots come up.

Shake your bucket after picking up your stumps and you will drop alot of the dirt and be able to leave the soil there, his will also allow you to better burn up the stumps later.
What to do? What to do? Put dirt back onto the ground, stumps go with hot dogs and marshmallows, and the forest is renewed. :-)
Bo is making tooth brushes and the other dog is running the quarter mile several times over. lol

Coolest, most helpful videos on clearing land.... Heading upstate NY tomorrow with two chainsaws to clear a driveway & homesite on our newly aquired 6.25 acres. Fingers crossed! TY
