Writers are confusing ones sexuality with a personality trait.
They're not really writers.
And that inevitably leads to stereotyping, exactly what they wanted to avoid.
But how can I truly understand a character without knowing if they are a top or a bottom?

As a consumer, I have reached a point far more harmful to Disney that outrage or hate. Indifference. And indifference doesn't buy tickets, doesn't watched streamed content, doesn't even download it. Indifference walks away. And a company remotely interested in money should fear the large number of us walking away far more than they should those spouting hate and outrage.

The point where all of this went off the rails is simple. It wasn't when Disney bought it, there was a chance when they bought it that they could have done something special. The point where it all went bad was when they cancelled the expanded universe and announced they were doing their own thing. Then they hired Jar Jar Abrams, who is not known for original thought, to write and direct an original Star Wars movie.
Disney didn't learn to support marginalized groups, Disney learned to use marginalized groups as human shields.

I don't have Disney+, so all I know of the show is from the clips I've seen on UA-cam, but I had a similarly bad reaction upon watching that scene. I was alone in the room, so no embarrassment from what other people might say, but I actually laughed out loud. I thought it was the stupidest line of dialogue I'd ever heard. I can't fathom the thought processes of the people who wrote, uttered, filmed, and edited that. If I'd been the actress, I'd have said "no, there's no way I'm saying that; it's stupid. Just let me walk up and attack her."
I suppose they thought it sounded all cool and badass and menacing, to have this character come up and challenge the Carrie-Anne Moss' jedi. The actual result was unintentional comedy. It actually _could_ have been cool and badass and menacing (or as close as garbage Disney Star Wars can get to it) if this Mae character had simply approached Moss' jedi and silently launched into a savage attack, but Headland & company went with that cringingly bad line because they're a bunch of ridiculous hacks.

I tried to read the first High Republic book. I stopped after the 4th page. Whoever wrote that doesn't get that Star Wars is supposed to be exciting. I heard that an exciting part finally shows up on page 7. And it's a pretty thick paperback. I'm just not going to spend money on stuff that doesn't want to be entertaining.

I am so happy that you reviewed these episodes. I am a Asian, Mexican, German, Spanish male and I do NOT like this diversity crap that is going on. It does not have to be about me or my races. I seriously enjoyed the first 3 Star Wars movies in the theaters. And I own DVDs on all of the movies that I love, so I can watch them on my big screen TV at home any time I want. And that is probably why so many people are NOT going to theaters very often any more. Most of the very good movies are on DVD.
Another reason that people are not going to the theaters is the garbage they are putting out these days. I can’t see shelling out $75 for a movie that isn’t worth seeing in the theaters.

What the producers and showrunners fail to realize is that Star Wars is STAR WARS --- like the title says --- it is battles
in space. It's about the Rebellion vs. the Empire. How is it that the Disney people fail to understand that? After all the
comic books and novels that gave us alternative storylines, the people at Disney give us no stormtroopers, no droids,
no smugglers, no daring adventures, no spaceships ... WTF? ... People wanted to see The Mandalorian because it had
a who dressed like Boba Fett and a baby Yoda. I really enjoyed Rogue One and Solo. If Disney is serious about impressing
SW fans, they should be making films and shows that have connections to Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, Lando, and our
two droid friends. SW may have rockets, but this ain't rocket science.

I always thought I was a left of center libertarian. The past few years have taught me I’m apparently an alt right conservative that would make Mousolini uncomfortable. Now, that might be true, or a segment of “The left” is so disconnected from reality that they cannot face the smallest of critiques.
The comments before they dropped the show are shields. They're meant as such and they work pretty well since every review has to address them beforehand and that leaves doubt in viewers, "why do you feel the need to justify yourself?" and it leaves everyone and I mean everyone who isn't in the group that's represented, much more lenient in their critizism by default.
Like she said here, she's the target viewership they want, it's her they must satisfy and apparently they don't.
The Acolyte wouldn't even pass as a home movie! Every aspect of the show is broken. This review is spot on.
They spent a huge amount of money and are basically putting their whole future on it in a way no other Star Wars show has been since the Sequel Trilogy... they NEED it to be successful

By contrast, Fallout cost 153 million for roughly 400 minutes of content (8x50 avg runtime) which is 382K per minute. The Acolyte doesn't look it had a quarter of the budget that Fallout did. Where did all the money go? If I was Disney, I'd be demanding an audit of expenses.

I love it when you get fired up. I'm a white old Australian man who has been into Star Wars since 1980. I was watching a movie the other day, called "Anyone but you", I assume this is a reflection on how real young people like you act, in it the couple hate each other with a passion that ends up being a reflection of their love for each other, so since you hate Star Wars with a passion, you must in fact love Star Wars, and in the end you will kiss and make up, and do an silly song together at the end :)

Being honest about a property you WANT to like is tough, especially these days when if you dare say something negative about these shows and happen to be a middle aged white male, you're a sexist and a racist. The scene where she white guilted the Jedi into apologizing and drinking poison was one of the worst scenes ever put to film. They needed to give some flashbacks or context. It's not mysterious when you have no clues as to why it would have gone down like that and you can't recover from that. This Jedi Master offed himself for this dark sider and we're just like 'oh, yeah...I guess.' The costumes are shocking. They little fresh off the rack from the 39.99 section at Spirit Halloween. They look like nobody has every worn them.
SPOILER ALERT: Based on comments about episode 3, the Jedi who drinks the poison feels guilty for something terrible SHE did in the past. And she blames them for what SHE did. Basically the narcissistic mentality that the fault of one's own actions always lies with others and that is why they must feel guilty and pay with their lives for it.

Jedi show up to her and her sister's village. They want to take them for training. OSHA wants to go Fanny Mae doesn't. Fanny Mae burns a book which burns down her village killing everyone. Fanny Mae falls into a hole and survives. OSHA goes with the Jedi. The Jedi who were there now blame themselves (for some reason?). Fanny Mae blames the Jedi and has started hunting them (again for some reason). A total and complete lack of accountability on her side and I have no idea what the Jedi are on about.

True: Quintin and I discussed Kill Bill in 2003, in very few words as words were not necessary. Headland - have you SEEN Kill Bill, 1 & 2? Those are movies, written by writers who write stories, with real actors playing characters.
There is only one way to salvage Star Wars, put it on ice for at least 20 years, no new movies or tv shows at all. Hopefully there will be some people from the next generations that can pick up the pieces and produce something that takes it out of this Disney malaise.
