She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany won't stop talking about SHE-HULK, because people won't keep asking about it. And yet, it always comes down to the fans who were soooo sexist, they destroyed it. Here's why she (and everyone else who defends this show): is full of it.

Not the bad writing. Not the bad CGI. Not ignoring the lore and stories they could have used and referenced. Not the fact that the show runner and writers had no clue how to write a law drama/comedy with superheroes. Not the fact that they literally and happily bashed men. The secret to Ripley is that it's all about character. The role was written for Ripley to be a guy but Ridley Scott changed the character to a woman without altering any dialogue from the script. Ripley is all about character. That's what stories need more than ever. Great characters. It's been 45 years since Alien hit the big screen and Ripley is still talked about with reverence.

    • @geepike
      @geepike Місяць тому +2

I’ve been a massive Alien/s fan since I was 7 or 8. Tbh, it’s a SUPER feminist movie…but in the best ways. In bonus features, RScott talks about how horror of the time had women as victims of violence and r*pe…and he actively set out to make a horror film to terrify men in the same way, but with a female as the hero. As you said, the character was there and important. But all the subtleties and politics I just mentioned weren’t rammed down our throats (pun definitely intended), it hid in plain sight. The results were a killer horror/sci-fi and character that people of ALL backgrounds have loved for decades. It’s truly a “how it’s done”.

Also, introducing Hulks son the way they did was BS. What a terrible way to introduce such an important character. "Oh by the way, here's Skaar y'all." It's like being introduced to everyone after someone pours trash all over you. Not a great first impression.

Thank you! We men need women like you to address poorly written shows. If we criticize them, we can be unfairly labeled sexist. We all just want well-written shows with strong female characters. There are many examples in books and shows, and I definitely admire them. If some men appear sexist in comic book or superhero fandoms, it doesn't represent all men. Comic creators and novelists would likely not create female characters if most men were truly sexist. We need women in our lives, and it's unfair to assume all men hate women. If a man in your past was sexist, (which I apologize and no woman deserves to be treated that way) please know that most men are not like that. Attributing one bad experience to all men is simply not fair. One sample of a population can never fairly represent the whole population. I love women! Please don't hate us, and let's all enjoy well-written shows together, regardless of the characters' genders

I did my research months before the show premiered and when I found out that the writer Gao 1. Knew nothing about She-Hulk in an interview and 2. Did the show to bash MCU fans who complained about the current phase of the MCU. I instantly knew that the show would fail and decided not to waste my time on it especially since it was only made to bash me because I am a man. I also find it hilarious how I'm told that a project was not "made for me" but then when it fails somehow it's my fault for not supporting it? Why isn't anyone from the now-dead She-Hulk series asking women why they didn't support the series that was made for them? I definitely think that the reception of the recent female lead projects from Marvel is due to sexism. But it's sexism from Marvel's side, who can't seem to bring themselves to approach making a female lead project the same way they approach a male lead project. They can't even tell the same story... Most of the male lead films in the MCU share the same story. An arrogant or somewhat selfish person learning humility and the value of self sacrifice for the good of others, most simply phrased in the Doctor Strange movie quote "It's not about you".
The majority of the female lead projects also share the same story, but a different one from the men. They're all about a woman learning to stand on her own and not let anyone else define her or tell her what to do. This one is most prominent in the She-Hulk show, where everything revolves around Jen so much that even the main villain of the show wants to her only her and no one else.
The reason people aren't liking the female story is not because it's about women. It's because they want to see a story about a hero, and learning not to care about anyone else isn't very heroic... Marvel just doesn't want to make their female heroes be actual heroes...

You are so right about the woke industry being like "The hive mind", it reminds me of how The Borg say... "You will be assimilated" ...They totally ignore people devalue them if they don't support them. It reminds me of dictators who rule by supressing free thought and individuality. Some might think that's an overdramatic simplication of things but I say that it is dangerous to ignore the signs / red flags and allow them to steamroll people's opinions. It also reminds me of two other quotes... "Those that do not learn from history's mistakes are destined to repeat them" ...and... "All that evil needs to succeed is for gpod men (people) to do nothing" ...For example: many people disagreed with Adolph Hitler's policies after he became Chancelor of Germany in 1933 (6 years before he invaded Poland, which is when England finally declared war); in fact many German citizens said that they didn't say anything because they didn't think it would go that far... If they had not been afraid to stand up and speak out against him sooner (and if Englands Prime Minister Neville Chamberlin would have had the courage to say "No, we will not allow you to do this" when Hitler claimed Austria as part of Germany or when he invaded Qekslovatkia and Paris (allowing Hitler to take over 3 countries without any arguement) then he would have been stopped before he could build up his military and WW2 may not have happened and millions of people wouldn't have died... If ONLY more people had spoken out against Hitler sooner.
How many people are going to stay silent and allow these people to continue to ignore us? ...WE THE PEOPLE are letting the entertainment industry to bully us into being silent and they are determined to "assimulate" us into their "hive mind".

I watched She-Hulk season 1, every episode. I thought the show was amazing. The writers talked about the show, and the show didn't even follow what the writers said the show would be. Each episode was supposed to be it's own isolated story, but they weren't isolated. The main character was a whiny, self entitled victim from the first to the last episode, who was somehow incredibly intelligent and incredibly ignorant at the same time. The 4th wall breaks were an absolute masterpiece of how not to do a 4th wall break. You had no idea when they were going to happen, and you regret watching the show when they did happen. The 4th wall breaks were just instances of the main character whining about a situation they voluntary put themselves through because they have no principles at all. Hearing someone say "I really don't want to take advantage of my new powers" who then immediately takes advantage of their new powers, only to complain about it in 4th wall break is an amazing example of what modern feminism is. This is a show I hope future generations can grow on, where a college professor has the students watch an episode, and then have the students explain why the writing is so mind boggling bad.

I love how they gaslight everything by making it about sexism. They blatantly ignore the reality that She-Hulk and every other character, including the important female characters, in the MCU are preexisting, built in, already created - and in most cases - already popular characters in the comics. Popular with men who make up the majority of the fan base. So make that fact and what people working for Disney are saying make sense. Men don’t like female characters who were popular WITH MEN in the comics. Okay. And that demonstrates the ugliest side of this. The nasty lack of appreciation. What they are doing is building off the success and hard work of those in the comic book industry that created these characters and popularized them, as well as the fans that bought and supported these things for decades. Without all that the She-Hulk TV show wouldn’t even exist. The MCU would never have existed. And, yes, the success, the very existence of that industry, was primarily driven by men. It’s almost like they want to take that success and transfer it to themselves without the pesky creativity and work. “Underlying sexism” is not the problem (I don’t think it exists in any substantial amount). These actors and directors underlying sense of entitlement is, however, a problem.they really do seem to believe that they are owed success. Maybe, just maybe, if they stopped thinking and acting like they are owed our time and money, maybe they’d start concentrating on doing things to actually earn it. And maybe if they stopped attempting to shame and gaslight half the population they would have more success. And isn’t it sad that these leading feminist writer/actor/directer’s trying to “shatter the patriarchy”, speak for women everywhere, and be role models for female youth growing up in the world are doing so by being gaslighting, blame-shifting, narcissistic, demanding, self-entitled and manipulative. Way to tear down those stereotypes …. by literally embodying them.

A sleeper hit IMO that I'm glad I stumbled upon months ago was 'No One Will Save You'. Starred a female, in fact it's for the most part basically her throughout the entire movie, no real supporting cast almost at all. The movie was fricken amazing, absolutely loved it. The thought of it being led by her didn't even cross my mind, it was just a bad*ss movie. My point, when it's a good, successful, a well written movie/TV show with female lead: silence, when a movie/show fails with female lead: uproar, s*xism, haters, cheers.

I just want to say, when i was a nerdy young man instead of a nerdy old man, I loved the She Hulk comic. I was one of few, which is probably why the original comic was axed by Marvel, brought back and then axed again. So the choice in itself was an odd one to bring her to disney+. I was excited to watch it. I last approximately 15 minutes I think? and that includes a trip to the bathroom. Everything you said about the show could very well be true, i wouldn't know though because the dialogue was so bad I just turned it off and never went back. I should be angry, but Disney/ Sony..etc. have ruined a lot of great superheroes over the last few years ( which included my favorite X-man, Wolverine). Such a shame. P.S. you are absolutely spot on about how they sidelined the Hulk, one of the most fascinating characters Marvel has ever created.

Strange, because if men were just downvoting and boycotting any movies with female leads, you would expect to see ALL female lead movies to have low ratings/views.
However, what we see is that some female lead movies get good audience reviews, and some get bad audience reviews, which is what you would predict to see based on the hypothesis that people were voting based on the QUALITY of the movies/series.

I had high hopes for it, same with Echo. The 1st few episodes were good but then they got sexist themselves and not in the way She-Hulk should have been. And it was barely a She-Hulk show, it was an actor mocking the fanbase that she already knew was going to happen. Echo was awesome the 1st few episodes, then they botched it by making the action packed series into a tv drama. Nothing about them being women, just bad writing. Marvels was a few drafts away from feeling like a real MCU movie, but thats been most MCU movies/shows lately. Again nothing about them being women, we loved Widow, Sif, Jane Foster, Hela, Ancient One, Pepper, and all women except maybe Carol Danvers before Endgame. 1 women out of all of them is not sexist. We hated most males if they didn't hit the mark, like the elves in Thor 2 or Whiplash or Ultron for not being Ultron. Wow 3 men and 1 women. Carol is understandable cuz she had the memory wipe thing. But the 3 men nope, no reason but writing and acting. If we men are sexists its agains men, not women.

Now, I will confess I never read any of hers, or many other comics for that matter, but I had a buddy who always told me about the "good books" to read etc. I have always thought She-Hulk was cool in that she had a real job and people knew her identity and she was hot. That was the extent of my She-Hulk knowledge. So, I was actually excited to learn about her character through this show . . .
Yea, I can only imagine she is NOTHING like this in the comics, or she wouldn't have survived the oversexed nineties. It's a shame Marvel and Disney felt the need to attack people like me instead of giving me a great show with a great, strong character. Instead, as you said, she whined the ENTIRE time! If they were going to try a She-Hulk show they should have cast Snarky Jay. Snarky would make a funnier and more satirical She-Hulk; much better than Tatiana could ever give us. That’s what I think anyway. Of course, with that writing crew, the show never had a chance. They had no experience at law, no experience at comedy and no experience at comic book lore, yeah, that sounds like the perfect writers for this show.
You nailed it perfectly Jay. Everything you said is exactly how we all feel about the show. I don’t see how anyone actually liked that show. Anyone who liked that show are those who agree with the politics the show spewed out, hate men and normal women; women who want to be everything that the main character of Jennifer was portrayed as.
Any woman like Jen are pathetic. Being a hero and saving unfortunate people is a waste of time, but her 9 to 5 job is her identity and more important than family, friends and even taking time to save someone from injustice. Everything was centered around Jennifer, her wants, her needs and anything else that interfered she had no time for. What a pitiful portrayal of any person. Jennifer was the most shallow and self-centered character I have ever seen and we were supposed to relate to her or admire her?
Sorry Hollywood, give us Ellen Ripley and Sarah Conners back! Damn, we really miss females characters that even men looked up to.

They just had to explain why Titania wasn't jailed on the raft, have some sort of lawsuit because of the actions of she hulks law firm deciding the case between the meta human who had multiple wives, and a mea culpa by she hulk for claiming she had a tougher life than Bruce because she had been cat called, which is literally nothing compared to the hulk being on the run, having to fight the army, hated by earth, to name a few reasons.
Jennifer Walters being presented as unlikable so unworthy of dating is not the lovable Jenifer Walters of the comics. There is also the question of who pays for all of the damage she hulk caused in public, and maybe explain why the abomination fecklessly violated his parole by changing form multiple times despite being genuinely reformed. The more...a lot more.

If they wanted to have a popular show with strong female character they would of course have let the talented and experienced (white male) writer Stephen McFeely continue with Agent Carter. We could have seen lots and lots of characters through the 1950's and the 1960's. Maybe introducing the FF and explaining why they didn't show up for Infinity war (maybe lost in the quantum realm?).
