Somehow the algorithm of UA-cam managed to keep this gem hidden from my radar until today. Such a great and educational video about sound design in the DeepMind. Thank you very much sir!
That notebook is gold haha. Love the song oriented sound design... lot to learn about synthesis with every tutorial and it makes me want to try do it by my own.
Thank you! Trying a few ways of adding it, it makes lighting on the table harder when it's on top, but I don't have to sync any footage or use a second camera. Decisions!
I think I got just about all the steps but I could probably do with rewatching this at half speed as I only got my DM12 yesterday so still getting my head around the menu system! Made a Nangs patch and a duplicate with added phaser for maximum Tame Impala sound haha! Thanks again for this and for your Juno, Poly6 and JXP banks which I also got although I think I overwrote the stock patches by mistake but probably a lot of them I wouldn't use I suppose!
Can you recreate the synth that comes in halfway through the song not you too by drake (around 2:14), very simple sounding sound but very complex when I try to recreate it
Enjoying your content. How about some Fixx patches from the Reach the Beach album? I think he used a Prophet early on as well as his PPG. May even be a Moog in there somewhere. Nowadays he only uses software on stage.
The keyboardist is Rupert Greenall. He is known for modulating patches using a breath controller or vocoder. A popular song by them (in 1983) was "One Thing Leads to Another". They still tour and their last studio album was released in 2012. We are awaiting a new one. Hope this helps.
You are really good emulating synth sounds. Can you re-create the intro sound of Nil By Mouth by Haken and some of the other sounds in that track? That would be challenging I guess;) I have a Deepmind too and I would love to see a tutorial for that
yoooo I used your vid about copying this on the juno to do it on my deepmind, turns out I just had to wait a few days. Also for a suggestion the kind of accordion like synth that plays at the beginning of Slow Dancing in the Dark by Joji would be cool. Sorry if it's a little basic but I think it would be a cool recreation to see.
Sorry if this is a silly question but i am new to synthesizers...what is that monitor that you have displaying the waves of the synth? that is so rad. thank for these great videos you totally inspired me to snag one of these instead of spending the extra grand on a Juno.
Awesome video! Why did you leave VCA at the half? Also it would be cool if you created something similar to aphex pad at 2:57 ua-cam.com/video/ZEP-Qpw3lHg/v-deo.html. I can see with spectrogram, that there is something interesting going on with pitch, but I can't still figure out how he modulates it.
Honestly, i think the VCA at half is all habit. Incase I need to make up some gain lost through patching or effects, I like to have room to move up or down, for lining volumes up for all the patches I'll use in a given song or at a given show. I'll check out the aphex pad!
I definitely just bought a Deepmind 12 because of you and your patches. 😅 Would you ever consider making an EX-800 pack? I love the sound of them but they seem like a huge pain to edit.
I think most people use the EX-800 as a preset module anyway so providing the patches in the highly editable Deepmind would have particular value to your audience.
Ah cheers, appreciate that. I'm not sure! If I end up with another one, I might consider it. There are some settings on the multistage envelopes that could be tricky, but could be accomplished with the 3rd envelope on the DM. And some impossible footage settings, with that weird ass oscillator in the ex800
hey Jorb :) love your stuff. just wondering how you route the output of your synths to your oscilloscope? I have one and Im looking to set something up for myself but not sure the right cable setup
@@JorbLovesGear ahh they're called BNC adapters. that's what's been confusing me. so many weird connections with vintage gear, like those 5 pin audio adapters. anyway, thanks dude!
hell. yeah.
😁Good suggestion

Amazing job, once again ! You should have been hired to by Behringer to create the factory patches !
@behringer whattup
Second me for Let It Happen. Would absolutely tune in for a monster video on the various synth sounds.
If I were to do it, that would be the way to do it I think, something long where I break down a bunch of the individual sounds. Good rec!
having a deepmind 12 is my favorite. You are my favorite. Thank you for teaching me so much!
That notebook is gold haha. Love the song oriented sound design... lot to learn about synthesis with every tutorial and it makes me want to try do it by my own.
Happy to hear that, I really do want it to inspire people to sit down and create some sound.
Love this kind of videos! Theres so much to learn from those kind of videos, as its not just some product advertisement!
Cheers! Fully independent lol
Holy carp, Jorb! that sounds grood
Thank you! Strong source material, is all 😁
The oscilloscope is a cool addition!

Another great one! Love the scope and liking it better on the table, rock solid for the zoom in on the screen
This big flat wooden work surface was a really good investment tbh. Glad to know someone has noticed that !
Thank you Jorb for this. More of these please. You’re the man! 👍🎵
More to come 😁
Really appreciate your DM tutorials

fire content. thank you. bought one of these and have a lot to learn
🙏🙏
This is excellent! Looking forward to playing with this on my DM.
Cheers, enjoy!
Yeah, that’s it. I’m buying a DeepMind
DM stuff!
I need to watch this tomorrow when I get the chance.
you ARE the deepmind 💜
We're melding into 1 😂
Niiiiice one. Learned a lot!
Cheers! Exactly the goal
Love this sound!
Tbh me too. Lol
@@JorbLovesGear You should make a video about it... oh wait
thanks dawg
Nice clear tutorial. Sounds great. Subbed! 👍😎👍
Cheers, appreciate that.
Welcome aboard!

Digging’ the oscillascope
Hey thanks! its been part of my little youtube fantasy for awhile, a hardware scope right on screen.
Reckon you could do the infamous everything in it's right place - Radiohead synth
oooo maybe i could. in the backlog!

Not familiar, but will check it out!

We stan synths
We have no choice
aaaand now I need a polysynth
😂Any time on my channel, it's clear to see I have one to recommend. Lol

Great synth sound, that ones going on the list.
@@JorbLovesGear awesome
My name’s Verner Calvin. I love JORB.
🙏🙏🙏Good to have you Verner
nice! can you do Bette Davis Eyes? I've already tried it, it's really difficult
Digging in, I might be able to

That's an analog oscilloscope, it has its own featured video in the last few weeks.

Dude, you should do Let it Happen by Tame Impala! That’ll be a real challenge
Theres so many synths on that track, how will i choose?! lol
I love synthesizers, but I'm gradually realizing that I'm not very good at making sounds. 😝
One trick at a time, eventually you'll know em all!

I MIGHT thats a good suggestion..
Sorry for the unrelated question: what is the name of the oscilloscope on the top left?

Do can take patch in style of olafur arnalds?
Not familiar, will investigate!
Jorb, how would you go about using the key pressure mod to get that dip - almost sounds like a record halt - around 1;05 in the song?
You could put filter and pitch negatively affected by aftertouch?
@@JorbLovesGear i'll try it! Thanks for the quick reply
how ru pressing keys and theyre holding....
Sustain pedal!
Sounds amazing. Do you have a download link to this patch?
Next is Heart to Heart by ol' Macky boi
yaya with the fire recs again, strong contender.
@@JorbLovesGear ;)
You need a pop filter for your mic!

Aux sends from my mixer, with 1/4in to bnc adapters.
