The string works great, I have noticed on the aftermarket handles the rear part of the handle needs a slight mod the slide ramp (i file a bevel onto it so it will slide in easier in conjunction with the front part sliding in behind the part you are holding with the string). If you do not do this it will take multiple attempts before you hit the sweet spot. Or just buy the Toyota handle.
Just want to say. You did a great job explaining and providing key information . The T-30 bit called out Noting it was a capture bolt The use of a cable tie - was a simple solution I have my part - thanks for the short explanation A+ For you .
Just finished 2 adds I found masons twine worked better for me for the loop. Also in my case the retainer bolt wouldn’t go back in until I figured out that I needed to pull the plastic assembly out more . It apparently had gotten bushed inward . After I figured that out everything worked perfectly. Thanks again.
for the life of my I cannot get the T30 screw to engage the trim piece. I did not get the dorman replacement, but I cannot get the original to engage either. Any help appreciated! Thanks!
Is the trim piece fully seated before you try turning the t30? I think I had a tough time the first time I did this repair too. If you look closely I started to insert the trim piece from the front and it wouldn’t seat. If you start the trim piece closest to the handle it should pop in all the way. Hope this is clear what I’m trying to describe

The seated screw won’t catch the piece. I’ve run into this problem and it’s ridiculous…
what size torexbit does it take to get this apart
T30 will get it done!
If you have a Stihl T wrench try it it worked perfectly for me.
Awesome. Happened to me today
Thank You
