It's always fun when a game comes right out of the gate with a speedrunning scene. These back and forths are very common when that's the case, because everyone is learning the game at the same time, and new strats get discovered on the daily. This has been such a treat to follow Totk speedruns. People are getting hyped for sub 50 and it's barely been a month. Can't wait for next year, when we're discussing sub 30 or something insane like that.
You could skip the cutscenes in Skyward sword SD if you played on hero mode (which the speedrun did) but it still was a slow start even without the cutscenes. Until the game got completely broken and now you do like none of the intro. Wind waker the very first cutscene isn't skippable and is several minutes so that's probably a better comparison. When will Nintendo give us true cutscene skip options. At least this is better than Pokemon's cutscene skips.
Excited to see the runs get shorter and shorter. The strats are already mindblowing and I have about a months worth of playtime on this game, I beat it once and Im STILL blown away by the skill, Gym. Great work.
He should do videos on new games to show the beginnings of speed runs in more detail. Doesn't even have to be long videos just short but detailed videos that give more context to the speedruns.
just wait until major game breaking glitches get discovered. I could see this game coming down to as low as 20-30 minute runs like botw if glitched right.
@@drian13 This run will never be under 30 minutes without Great Sky Island being skipped, which is pretty much impossible since it's coded the same way as Great Plateau (no skip after 6+ years).
@@nineplusten you'd be surprised at the posibiities especially considering the level of creativity the devs give you in this game. It's pretty close minded to say that it will never be shorter when there are still so many posibilites. Plus there might be a glitch to skip the intro scene saving like 7 minutes right there alone.
@@nineplusten this is one of those comments that always ages poorly lol jokes aside the GSI is *very* cutscene heavy, I think the cutscenes alone are like 15 minutes or something crazy. So yeah even if we find a way to teleport instantly to every shrine it's still gonna be like a 20 minute first half. This game is *much* more broken than botw already tho, so who knows what could happen
@julianthepirate345 practice your parry, get 2-3 triple shot bows and a lot of gibdo bones, load up on full recovery and heart restore foods. Makes it much easier
Love a WR run that Gym starts off pessimistically. Also, this might be a version difference, but how do you get Ascend to work without saying “Uppies Please!”
At this point it seems very likely that sub 49 will happen before the end of the summer. I mean if you can optimize your run this time it would be 25 seconds faster. But with a new route sub 50 will be 100% done very soon.
I always notice that you use the version v1.0 for glitch advantage reason, so I have some ideas that I would like to propose to Nintendo to troll the speedrunners. How about with the latest version, Nintendo patches out all the glitches, but then allow speedrunner to completely skip all the cutscene include prologue and maybe even allow skipping Great Sky Island with a secret in-game cheat code to the point where it makes up the lost time from the lack of glitches. It would be pretty funny to see the speedrunners fight to decide whether to use first version or latest version.
Why would he have started the timer roughly 6:30 earier then? The run starts when the timer starts. And that is when the player can first control the character or just with hitting "Start game"
With the rate the record has been improving i wouldnt be surprised if we were sub-50 by the end of the day (June 19 2023) but its totally getting there by the end of the week.
Do you think runs will ever graduate from 1.0? I understand using older versions of games, but when it was only out for like a couple weeks it feels a little awkward to plan on using it forever
Why? If it’s the fastest version, why wouldn’t they use it? The point of any% is to beat the game as fast as possible. If that requires 1.0, well, that’s it. But that’s why there’s usually different categories based on the version, so that runners can choose what they want to run
@DesTr069 I don't have a good answer, it just doesn't feel like the same game I guess? I see speedrunning as a way to push a game to its limits, and there's a bit of a dissonance when the game that anyone not speedrunning it has has such different limits. I love seeing the janky 1.0 glitches, but it feels more like a beta or a test version than a fully released earlier version. It doesn't feel like the totk I have, which is fine, but I hope to see people push the game I have to its limits as well.
@@danielbarker2522 I feel similarly. Hopefully runners find a path or and a couple of glitches that are just too generally tricky to pull off that there isn't really a point to patching them out of the game so it isn't too important what version of the game you are running
With games like this with such a long opening i wouldnt mind seeing any% runs moves to an emulator or saved state that starts after the intro. Would be more entertaining to watch and far more to run id think
i wonder if anyone has attempted 100% yet...personally, i still havent even Hit 100%, and ive been playing the same file since Day One (map says im at about 65%, ive got about 150 Koroks, and i still need to find/finish about 20 Side Quests)
He mentions an existing 100% run in the video. Looks like it’s segmented, because it’s not a good idea to ask speedrunners to give themselves health problems for a run.
Seems to be attack up 3 food and a royal guard's halberd, which doubles flurry rush damage. He also did a weapon duplication glitch, essentially tricking the game into thinking he is holding multiple of the same weapon. I do not know how this affects damage.
These back and forth WRs with P5 is just amazing.

Gymnast has a huge advantage for Tears speedruns. He is hardly bothered by the opening sequence after years of skyward sword openings.
You mean wind waker? SS were all skipable I think
Unless you couldnt skip the SD version. Don’t remember
