@@Valin9275 thats replacing the guts then stupid, its not jailbreaking the ipod shuffle, its just jamming a respberry pi in it and calling it a day. plus the raspberry pi would have to be pretty small

on 6:23 there is a cut and the box for Bootloader switches to turned off. You need to first install all things (Rockbox, Fonts, themes etc.) and then after, install the bootloader alone without the other things checked. for anyone wondering

I ran rockbox 1TB (four 256GB PNY with iflash adapter) on 5.5th-7th gen with no issues from last year and still running strong. Also easier to patch than using the installer on 5th gen iflash version

Are you able to use the database feature? I have the same setup (iQuad/7th) and my database keeps corrupting.
Also, did you use the standard rockbox installer, like in this video or the “6th gen Dev build” on the rockbox website?
1TB on dual microsd and works like a charm,but not only big battery and tada’ Bluetooth audio connection to AirPods Pro 2 thanks to Moonlit 😊
@@neriozulberti1492 It's interesting you raise the topic of Bluetooth, because I have a 5.5th generation iPod Classic and it would never properly power a 30-pin Bluetooth dongle on the stock Apple firmware, however, the moment I installed Rockbox, suddenly the dongle powers up from the iPod's 30-pin connector and can make a connection to any BT headphones in pairing mode...

Rename your iPod in AP style.
James' iPod will fit the character limit that James's iPod exceeds.
4:32 Windows calls your ipod 'JAMES'S IPO' because it's formatted as a FAT32 partition. FAT32 has a limit of 11 characters in volume names, so itunes simply truncated your ipod name to fit in the limit.
Crapple doesn't even use NTFS system for their mp3 players on windows? lmao.

Congrats James, for once a really clear, concise tutorial without silly jokes and needless detail. Great stuff......however.....how do I actually transfer/copy music from my library on an external hard drive to my iPod? Sorry if this is a rather obvious question that may enrage techies but I really don't know how to do it. Step by step advice would be much appreciated.

You can install rockbox on an iPod nano, you should correct it in the video.
But iPod nano doesn't have screen

I don't have iTunes (I don't know anyone who does honestly) and the instructions during installation seem to have bricked my Classic (160gb). Thing won't even turn back on now...

In rockbox , I clicked in the Apple folder and then selected the ipod and it says "no mountpoint given, you need to fix the above the errors before you can continue". PLEASE HELP

I recently saw a guy saying that the iPod classic's don't do shuffle for video's playback . Any idea about that video shuffle ? I.e a different rom/boot that can shuffle vids ?

Can you have your iPod gen 5/5.5 boot normally and only go into Rockbox with the hold switch+ button combo. I'd rather have Rockbox as an option than the default.

Hey ! I just installed rockbox on my 6th gen with a iflash card ... when i connect it to my pc it wont show up so i can't add music to it. It will show up when its on usb mode after the installation tho, is there any way i can reboot and force it to enter usb mode ?
Other things to consider ;
I had to repartition the drive so i can use a 256gb sd card
If not, those 6th gen will only show a 127gb partition
Each time i try to use the original apple os, the drive formats, resets to 127gb and the ipod wants to be restored.
Will it work with a 3rd Gen Nano?

hey there! I noticed in the video, you said that it registered the device name as [james's ipo] without the d in the end. since my name is also 5 letters, i had the same issue. to fix this issue, what you can do is remove one of the letters in the device name (i'd recommend you remove the s after the apostrophe)
Rockbox works fine on my 6g, but the iPod default os doesn’t work at all. It just says use itunes to restore and nothing else.
I accidentally remove rockbox bootloader then i stupidly restart it with the previous content now it's stuck on apple logo i think the rockbox firmware is still on the ipod rip anyway to fix this? Because the ipod didn't connect to pc anymore best i can do get it into the folder exclamation icon or the diagnostic mode but diagnostic mode is useless on the ipod mini

its stuck at 0% and it says Error reading partition table - possibly not an ipod

Hi, everyone! I have a 5.5G iPod Video with a 256GB mSATA drive. Rockbox version I used was the 3.14, then I used Beyondwind's patch for the mSATA to work without problems. I'm just wondering if the 3.15 (latest) version of Rockbox would work flawlessly even without Beyondwind's patch. I hope you guys can help me. TIA!

It also works on the iPod mini 2nd generation. Unfortunately there is a compatibility issue with most CF to SD adapters. basically the iPod will hang if you unplug a USB port and it's using The Rockbox USB you have to use the iPod disc mode or original firmware to avoid a hard crash with panic
@@RadOpsTV I've had a few issues It depends on the adapter you use apparently and the storage capacity. I find it to be extremely temperamental and haven't really done much with it as a kept having issues with it crashing randomly
what to do if the computer does not see the iPod 6g?

You do not have a U2 iPod. The U2 iPod 5th gen had a red touch wheel and black rear housing with the signatures of U2 on it.
It's easy nowadays to buy a housing and clickwheel and making a regular iPod look like a U2 iPod.

I wonder how much battery life gain there would have been if apple kust made the menus black themselves. These days thats like a core thing for phones. It helps just a tad. Im curious how much gain there would have been. You should test ot with this rockbox stuff. Same ipods same new battery sizes etc. Im curious how it would draw power amd if theres a decent gain

Im actually gonna be working on removing one of my 128gb cards from my 256gb 5.5 gen ipod video, I have the iflash with 4 slots however I didnt need that much memory, my issue at the moment is im not sure what the process is when I remove the card, what type of problems will I run into installing the new firmware... thats what im dealing with currently... lol it will be an experience im sure 🤭

my ipod does not have a dual loader.. it doesnt eveen show thee apple logo.. :(
It installs on my ipod classic 6th up to 40%, asks me to press Menu and select , reboot it, apple logo appears, I let go and it says eject through itunes , I do that and doesn´t go past that step. I don´t have any files on my ipod. And it locks download on 40%, doesn´t go past that.
I think you must hold menu and select a little longer. I had the same issue when releasing on the Apple logo. So I held the buttons down longer, about 13 secs or something, and then I got a message to release them and then the installation came through.

Does the ipod classic need to be formatted to fat32 before you install rockbox because my said it wasn't formatted and i have 6th gen
Your iPod needs to have the original firmware functional before installing rockbox. Restore the iPod with iTunes successfully then run the Rockbox installer.

Unfortunately, if you’re trying to do this on a Mac, you need OS 10.5 or higher. Doesn’t work if you still have an old Mac with High Sierra
