    The best thing about Sabaton is that they sing about war history, but without taking sides or expressing political opinions, so you learn history and listen to great music at the same time. They also have Sabaton History channel where they explain historical background of persons and /or events from their songs. One of my favorite live performances is the song En Livstid I Krig (A Lifetime Of War) live in Gothenburg. It's in Swedish so you'll need cc

      They have a historical channel? That's awesome!
      And you're right, I was first not sure how they would tell this story but that's all they did, tell a story right down the middle as it was and it was amazing hearing it through them 🤘

      The dude who works with them on their history channel knows his shit. If you want to see more of his work, look for Time Ghost History, The Great War (The original videos), or World War Two. He also stars in a few of their videos, like Unkillable Soldier and Seven Pillars of Wisdom. He helped inspire their WWI albums to an extent.

    The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's militari navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1400 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 3 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it, only 114 survived. The old man seen in the video is the son of the last survivor, who died in 2018, 1 year before this song was released

    • @DaP84
      @DaP84 2 роки тому +3

      The actor acting as the skipper is not son of the last survivor. Most likely one of these false facts spreading on yt. Where does this "fact" come from? The band has never mentioned it, and no info about this in any wiki etc. I think it is the unspoken fictional narrative of the video that's been twisted to the actor being his son.

      *her. Bismarck like her sister ship Tirpitz were both "Shes." It's only ever written once and it's attributed to Lutjens, never having been confirmed that he wanted his ship "Masculine" In fact in almost all German communications about the Bismarck it's always referred to as "Die Bismarck" (Die being the female pronoun in German)

    Sabaton is the epitome of badass. Sabaton, like Nightwish transcends their genre. No one matches them for their story telling and the respect they show their subject matter. Every Sabaton piece is a history lesson. Indeed, lest we forget, as there are those who as we speak are trying to erase our history and separate us from our past, and to no good end. We cannot allow that to happen.
    In an interview, Joakim was asked why Sabaton seems to focus on war and conflict. Joakim replied, "There are so many stories out there that are forgotten and do not deserve to. Why then should we make shit up?" Joakim has the right of it.

    If memory serves, the Battleship Rodney was technically the battleship that "put the holes" in the Bismarck that sunk it but it took torpedos from from two waves of Swordfish Torpedo Bombers, and many more from the two cruisers that followed the Bismarck to relay it's location to the British fleet, it also took hits from the Prince of Wales, Hood, and King George the Vth that lead to it sinking, but new evidence showing little damage to the ship's actual haul points to the Germans sinking their own ship to prevent it from being captured and turned against them, having almost no major damage to the haul, the superstructure being obliterated, and the stern having heavy damage, but not enough for it to have sunk in 45 seconds like it was reported to have done so.

    The boat they went out on you see the name Primo Victoria painted on it. That is the name of the 1st Sabaton album, and the title track is about D-Day.
    Christmas Truce is good at any time of the year. It's about the one day unofficial cease fire on the western front in WWI, Dec 1914. And that video was made by people who usually make movies, but had plenty of time because of the pandemic.

    I would recommend that recommendation that you mentioned during the video with the band's name you couldn't pronounce :D if I had to take a wild guess it's Feuerschwanz with the Manowar cover "Warriors of the World United" This cover features 3 guest vocalists besides the 2 of FS (So it's kinda the Avengers of European metal singers ;) ) pulling you in for maybe 3-5 other bands like Saltatio Mortis, Ad Infinitum, Gloryhammer, The Dark Side of the Moon, Rage of Light etc :DD
    As for Sabaton... One of my favorites from them is Nightwitches! I would suggest you do a double reaction one for an animated STORY video (there are 2 versions, pick the LONGER one!! You will understand why!) And also the live performance from the Great Tour! Enjoy

    Awesome reaction I loved the bedtime story analogy,
    In regards to who “sunk” the BISMARK it was actually skuttled by the crew to avoid it falling into enemy hands, as it seemed the entire crew would perish before the ship sank, it had reportedly been hit by so many shells the hull glowed red against the waterline and would burn you to stand near it, by that point all guns had been destroyed all ammo had been expended the bridge was destroyed and the rudder had been damaged by the opening torpedo dropped from a biplane, (which the AA on the BISMARK was not designed to be used against, being an outdated model of aircraft by that time)
    It was however the HMS Prince of wales and another ship of His majesty’s Royal Navy who got the credit in the propaganda posters.
    It was after the sinking of the BISMARK that Adolf Hitler ordered the Tirpitz into hiding in the Norwegian Fjords where it would ultimately be sunk by a group of bunker busting bombers (armed with bombs designed for large subterranean bunkers in Europe) in which 6 of these bombs directly impacted the tirpitz and sank it in shallow water.
    It should be mentioned the BISMARK had an escort (The KMS Prinz Eugen) who was damaged by the hood and was forced to return to Germany for repairs, leaving the KMS BISMARK without its Supplementary AAA that would ultimately end with the sinking of the BISMARK in the North Atlantic.

    • @AlastoriaHall
      @AlastoriaHall 2 роки тому +1

      Additional information!!!
      -the Prinz Eugen would survive the Second World War and would be handed off to the Ally’s following the surrender of Germany in April 1945, it would then see usage as a test ship and would be sunk near Bikini Atoll during an atomic test.
      -the tirpitz was the sister ship of the Bismarck, being of the same class and the second of only 2 ever made.
      -the Bismarck was torpedoed and shelled multiple times before it’s scuttling, but the armor thickness and backup systems to stop water from flooding the compartments was enough to keep it from sinking because of enemy fire.
      -the Bismarck had been listing heavily prior to its sinking which had made the ship difficult to traverse as the ship was going down.
      -the Bismarck was only recently rediscovered, and with the presence of bodies still aboard was proclaimed a maritime grave site, with the coordinates not publicly stated. (The location was found by the same crew that found the titanic!)
      Rumors persist among some groups that the U-boats the English thought they saw as the BISMARCK sank were actually a pair of captured u-boats used to torpedo the Bismarck,( though this theory has never been publicly confirmed or denied)

    • @mechakid
      @mechakid 2 роки тому

      @@AlastoriaHall You have a few errors here...
      1) It was King George V and Rodney that get the credit. Prince of Wales had been with Hood at Denmark Strait, and had been pretty badly beat up by Bismarck.
      2) To be fair, these ships had inflicted a technical knockout. Bismarck was little more than a flaming hulk when the crew moved to scuttle him (Bismarck used the masculine pronoun). It is likely the ship would have sunk eventually without the intervention of the crew, so it's not unreasonable to give the Royal Navy credit for the "kill".This is evidenced by Bismarck's list having started before the time the scuttle order was given, indicating that she was taking on water to an extent. Certainly, even without the scuttle valves being opened, the torpedo salvo from Dorsetschire would have opened enough compartments to the sea to cause an eventual capsize and sinking.
      3) Prinz Eugen was not significantly damaged by HMS Hood. It was actually Bismarck himself that was damaged, and it was a hit by Prince of Wales that caused it. After the battle of Denmark Straight, Prinz Eugen was detached to continue her raiding mission while Bismarck attempted to head to France for repairs. Prince of Wales had hit Bismarck in one of his fuel tanks, significantly reducing the battleship's range. Prinz Eugen on the other hand would return to France after suffering a mechanical failure, not because of any battle damage.

    Another band you could check out and noone has mentioned yet is Blind Guardian. A German Power Metal band founded in 1984 as a Speed Metal band but changed their style and soon became one of the pioneers of Power Metal. A great video is their live show at Wacken Open Air in 2016 in which you can hear two songs. One very mellow with two acoustic guitars and one fast and heavy that leans a bit on their Speed Metal roots: Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song & Valhalla - Live at Wacken Open Air 2016 ua-cam.com/video/i-IcX_bccFc/v-deo.html .
    Regarding Sabaton: the ANIMATED STORY videos of "No Bullets Fly" and "Night Witches" should definitely be on your watch-list. But they have so many good songs about real military events that it is hard to choose: "82nd All The Way", "Shiroyama", "The Last Battle", "Red Baron", "40-1", "Winged Hussars" just to name a few.

    Here’s a fun cat fact related to the Bismarck: The crew of the Bismarck consisted of over 2000 men, of which only 114 survived, including a tiny black cat named Oskar. Later, he went on to survive 2 more sinkings of the British destroyer HMS Cossack, and the British Aircraft Carrier Ark Royal. Because of this he was dubbed “Unsinkable Sam”. He died of old age in 1955 in Belfast Ireland.

    6:00 Prince of Wales did fight against Bismarck, that is true. It accompanied Hood when they tried to intercept Bismarck. However, all in all it was an entire flotilla of ships, including two aircraft carriers that tried to take out Bismarck. And sure enough, they did manage to cripple it. However, according to a marine forensics analysis done on the wreck in 2002 it was found that the Royal Navy cannot claim to have sunk it by itself. Bismarck's own crew needed to place scuttling charges to sink it after the rest of the ship beyond the citadel has been rendered but a burning, mangled hulk.
    Get this: a total of 719 large-caliber shells were fired at Bismarck (in addition to some 2000 smaller ones). Guess how many managed to penetrate its armor belt. Two. Both likely fired by HMS Rodney.
